20 years after the first attack, the world has found global peace while creating new weapons, planes, and space stations with collected intelligence from the aliens’ technology. Also, several of your beloved characters have grown within the past 20 years. Here is a synopsis of their growth:

Character Independence Day Resurgence
David Levinson Cable TV Repairman who saved the world In charge of research for Area 51
Julius Levinson David’s father Author of “How I Saved the World”, Retired
Dylan Dubrow-Hiller Son of Jasmine Dubrow-Hiller & step-son of Steven Hiller Pilot and Captain of Earth Space Defense (ESD)
Jasmine Dubrow-Hiller Mother of Dylan, Wife of Steven, Exotic Dancer Hospital Administrator
Steven Hiller Pilot, Hero Died in test flight
Thomas J. Whitmore President, Pilot Completed second term, having nightmares and visions
Patricia Whitmore First Daughter Former Pilot, speech writer for the current president
Dr. Brakish Okun In Charge of Research at Area 51 In a coma for 20 years

Now, the world is monitoring the sky, when a spherical space ships looms over earth. With one vote from the world’s leaders, it is quickly neutralized. Once again, earth wins. But Thomas Whitmore and Dr. Okun know better. Since their close encounters, they experience headaches and visions that something bigger is coming and we may not be able to stop it. Then, a much larger ship comes and sets anchor destroying everything in its path. This ship is drilling to the earth’s molten core to extracted it for fuel. It this happens, all earth on life is lost. Dylan, Patricia, and Jake (reckless pitot, Patricia’s fiance, Dylan’s former friend) must work to defeat the invaders once again. This time everyone will learn that all things aren’t as they seem.

This movie is just as fun as the first, Independence Day (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). You should see the 1st movie before seeing the 2nd to get jokes, reason for vision, and answers to your “what happen to …” questions. The special effects are great during the landmark destruction scenes but lost in the battle scenes. This movie is a “must-see” in the theater at full price. You won’t be bombarded by product placements. You will have cheer, laugh, and have your heart break. No need to stay past the end crawl or see it in 3D.

I give this 3.5 out of 5 stars

Let’s go kick some alien ass – Dr. Okun

I honestly didn’t think that would work – Jake

Just tell me you will be careful up there – Jasmine

I waited a long time to do that – Dylan

At least your father spared the elephants. Good for him – David
