Dangerous Seduction – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Dangerous Seduction

Posey – a medical artist – is looking for some excitement to help build up her confidence.  She hopes the confidence boost will give her to courage land her dream job.  While her fiance, Tom, wants to help, he just misses the mark.  Posey tries to dress sexy, tries experimenting in bed, and even tries visualizing herself with confidence but nothing works.  Her cousin and best friend Laura thinks her only problem is Tom.  So when Posey meets a sexy stranger named Jack, she is carefully intrigued.  She considers cheating on Tom but continues to flirt with the razor’s edge.  And to make matters worse, a few women she has had brief contact with, died.  Posey has no idea that Jack is working with Stella and Charlie to kidnap these women for a man named Alex.  Alex turns them into his personal sex slaves and kills them.  To make matter worse, Stella believes that Alex will like Posey, so she sent Jack to kidnap her.  Now Jack is slowly seducing Posey to make her Alex’s next victim.

It takes a while for this movie to make its point.  By being so mysterious, you wonder when “it” will happen.  You will start to lose interest as the storylines weave into each other.  This movie should have started with a woman being kidnapped after talking to Jack.  Then you would feel a sense of urgency when Posey met Jack.  This movie is background noise with an interesting last 20 minutes.

I give it 2 out of 5 stars

So how was it for you – Posey

Stupid – Tom

She looks scared. I like that. – Stella

Tom’s great – Laura

No more girls – Jack

The Beach House – Review

The Beach House – Hallmark – 1 hour and 48 minutes

The Beach House

Caretta had returned to her hometown to visit her family.  On the ride there, she gets the bad news that she has been fired.  Caretta decides to keep the news from her mother Lovie in order to keep the visit pleasant.  But Caretta is turned on her head to discover that Lovie’s given the main house to her son Palmer and she has an unwed, pregnant woman living with her at the beach house.  While Caretta has secrets, Palmer and Lovie are keeping some from her.  Soon all their secrets will come to head and The Beach House will be in the center.  The Beach House has survived a hurricane, neglect, and a marriage, but can it survive one more summer with this family.

Based on The Beach House by Mary Alice Monroe, this is a sweet, wholesome movie that covers southern female stereotypes, forgiveness, strength, and turtles.  It handles the topics the only way Hallmark can – with class.  However, this movie feels like a kick-off for the book series’s film adaptations. It just seems to go flat and does not solve any of the problems presented in the story.  So hold off on this movie until the next one comes out.  Then watch then back to back.

I give it 2 out of 5 stars

Anything to avoid my turtles – Lovie

You know nothing ever changes around her. Not the weather, not even accents – Palmer

It looks like paradise can use a little sprucing up – Caretta

A Dangerous Date – Review

A Dangerous Date – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

A Dangerous Date

Peter is a widowed, divorce attorney with a daughter named Julie.  He is happy spending time with her and working.  However, Julie wants him to start dating and ask him to sign up for a dating site.  After some time he meets Alexis.  Alexis is a strong, smart surgent with bad luck in the dating scene.  However, she and Peter feel the spark immediately and end up in bed.  Peter doesn’t know that Alexis has been watching their family for years and has stalked her way back into his life.  She is relentless in her pursuit of Peter but the motivation behind her persistence will leave you astonished.

This movie has a very slow start to set up Peter and Julie’s relationship and his search for a new love.  This is a starch contrast to the fast pace that Alexis falls in love.  Julie plays the bratty but wise college student but this is typical behavior of high school student.  So its hard to take her seriously.  While the middle some great moments, you may become disinterested before you see it.  So leave this movie as background noise for the first 30 minutes, then give it your attention.

I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars

Well, maybe I am just saving myself for someone special – Alexis

Are you always this aggressive – Peter

Twin Betrayal – Review

Twin Betrayal – Lifetime – 2 hours and 4 minutes

Twin Betrayal

Jess is in the middle of a messy divorce and custody battle with her husband Lars.  She is happy to have a work conference to attend in order to get away from it all.  At the conference, she meets a kind stranger straight out of her cowboy fantasies.  Everything seems to be great until the next morning.  Her sexy cowboy admits she was hired by Lars to catch her on tape having sex with a stranger and taking drugs.  She has one week to get $70,000 or he will give the tape to her husband.  Jess knows she will lose her son if Lars gets a hold of the tape.  So, she asks her father for the money and he gives her a swift and firm no.  Then she learns her estranged, identical twin sister Ally is in town.  Jess’s best friend Maddy tells her that Ally looks well off.  So Jess goes to Ally for the money.  Ally doesn’t have it but she offers to help trap the cowboy.  But if Ally helps Jess, Ally makes it know she wants something in return.  When Ally calls in her favor, Jess will end up in jail, her father will be dead, and she will need to ask Lars for help.

Get ready to have your head spin.  Just when you believe you have a handle on what’s happening, you are completely thrown off guard.  This movie has so many WTF moments, you will not be able to look away or trust anyone.  The ending leaves you with a question and hoping for a part 2.  The lead actress does an amazing job separating the twins into their own distinct personalities, speech patterns, and gestures.   You can even see the change as Jess pretends to be Ally and vice versa.  It’s a great and difficult dynamic that she pulls off flawlessly.  DVR this movie and watch it twice.  See if you can keep up and have your good wine ready.

I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars

Once Upon a Prince – Review

Once Upon a Prince – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Once Upon a Prince

Newly single Susanna is looking to get her life started.  She wants to be a landscaper but works in her parents’ floral shop to help them out and make ends meet.  While on a delivery, she gets a flat tire.  Nate pulls over to help her out and they hit it off.  The two start to date but don’t realize they are being followed and photographed.  When Nate learns of the photos he quickly puts an end to their sale.  He knows the photos will cause a scandal because he is a Prince and next in line to the throne.  It doesn’t take long for word to get back to the Queen.  She orders Nate home immediately and tells him to find a suitable woman to propose to at his coronation.  And Susanna, a commoner, is not suitable.  The Queen thinks Susanna is nice but they must follow tradition.  However, Nate only has eyes for Susanna.  So the Queen comes up with a plan.  Invite Susanna over and show Nate that she is not ready to be a member of the monarchy.  When Nate sees her crumble under pressure, he will get over her.

Based on the book Once Upon a Prince by Rachel Hauck, this has a slow start that is saved by a conniving Queen (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  With the recent royal/commoner weddings, this movie doesn’t feel like a fairy tale but a true possibility.  However, this movie just doesn’t grab your attention with the lead characters.  It’s just not a relationship you root to go the distance.  Since the leads aren’t exciting, the Queen must deliver.  While she is cunning, it’s just not enough to make you believe the relationship is at risk. Since you know how the movie will end, the plot must be strong.  This movie’s plot is just decent.  Use this movie as background noise.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

To sum up this movie: Slow and predictable.  Even by Hallmark standards, this movie just follows the formula too much.  It offers little laughs and minuscule reactions to big reveals.  It just doesn’t give more than the expected “leave town and love behind to find them later” storyline.  This movie is background noise for your day.

Royal Matchmaker – Review

Royal Matchmaker – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Royal Matchmaker

This a sweet comedy with a secondary couple you will not see coming.  You won’t see it because you will cheer on another secondary couple but when a history is revealed; your dreams will go to the waist side.  Although it does supply the typical Hallmark romance, there is a lot to be desired with quick quips and jabs.  This movie is good for a quick laugh and a decent story.

The Sweetest Heart – Review

The Sweetest Heart – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

The Sweetest Heart

Fourteen years ago, Maddie and Nate sat on a bench and promised that college wouldn’t be the end of their high school romance.  They decide that four years later they will meet and pick up where they left off.  Nate sealed his promise with a promise ring, while Maddie sealed her promise with Nate’s favorite cupcake.  Maddie plans on attending culinary school to be a bakery while Nate heads off to college and attend medical school later.   Four years after the promise, they did pick up where they left off but the relationship didn’t last.  Maddie felt Nate was getting cold feet about getting married so she ended the relationship.  Now, Maddie is working in her beloved small town in her own cupcake cafe.  She is hoping to find investors to help her move to a bigger building.  The sought-after building used to be a creamery.  It holds a special place for Maddie because its where her grandparents got engaged.  She has always dreamed of owning that space.  One day while preparing her presentation for the investors, Nate walks into her cafe.  She is stunned because she hasn’t seen him in 10 years.  Now, Dr. Nate is in town for good and wants to reconnect.  But Maddie wants to move on.  And first in line is one of her investors Alex.  Even though Nate and Maddie have feelings for each other, Maddie wants to forget the past.  Nate will have to work extra hard to change her mind.  He just has to find a way to get close to her.  It will only take a website, burnt cupcakes, and an empty store to give him an edge up.

Based on Heart’s Desire: Shores of Indian Lake Series by Catherine Lanigan, the overall concept is sweet and the screenplay fits perfectly into the Hallmark format (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  While it has a few funny moments sprinkled throughout the movie with the supporting cast, it doesn’t require the watcher’s full attention.  Hallmark movies are like a jog around a familiar park.  You know the destination, so the journey must have something new to keep your attention.  While the actors do a great job with these characters, there is still something one-dimensional about all of them.  This is a movie to keep on as white noise.  DVR it and keep the cork on the wine.

I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars

From a business perspective – Maddie

Mistress Hunter – Review

Mistress Hunter – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Mistress Hunter

Jackie is getting small hints that her husband Carl is cheating.  So, on a hunch, she follows him when he leaves work for an unscheduled lunch break.  Jackie sees Carl arrive at a motel, kiss a woman, then go inside the room.  She is heartbroken and furious.  She goes straight to her friends to vent.  While telling her story, her friend Valerie tells her about a sub-urban legend called the Mistress Hunter.  Jackie is skeptical about hiring her but changes her mind after a fight with Carl.  Jackie goes to a sketchy warehouse and meets the Mistress Hunter.  Even though she hates the moniker, Hanna loves to make cheating spouses squirm.  She offers Jackie 2 choices:

  1. Turn the cheating couple’s life into hell causing them to break up while collecting evidence for a divorce
  2. Break up the couple and push him back into Jackie’s arms

Jackie is only interested in option 1.  Hanna tells Jackie that in order for their plan to work, she would need to help.  Hanna doesn’t want to do anything illegal so she will need Jackie’s help.  Otherwise, the two women will never see or speak to each other again.  Everything seems to go as plan until 2 people turn up dead leaving Jackie the #1 suspect.

This is an incredible story.  The Mistress Hunter is a private investigator on the warpath.  It’s easy to see why someone in Jackie’s position would hire her.  But when Jackie becomes a suspect, she starts suspecting Hanna.  Figuring out the killer is a tough task for the viewer, even though the “why” becomes obvious.  It’s this reviewer’s prediction that the Mistress Hunter will become the next Dr. Foster.  Don’t miss this one.

Love, Once and Always – Review

Love, Once and Always – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Love, Once and Always

Lucy has gotten good news and bad news in the same moment.  Bad news: her great-aunt Grace died, leaving her a huge estate that she has cherished ever since she was a little girl.  Good news: she is up for a promotion as Vice President of a museum in London.  She heads back to the states to sign the paperwork to transfer the property.  She is glad to be back but is jolted when she sees her ex Duncan is still living there.  His family has been taking care of the property since he was a child.  However, when he accompanies Lucy to the lawyer’s office, she is bewildered.  The lawyer tells her that Grace left 50% of the property to each of them.  She wanted them to come to a decision about the house’s future because she knew they both loved it.  Lucy can’t wait to restore it back to its glory days.  But Duncan can’t wait to turn it into a golf retreat.  Lucy is disgusted at the idea of changing it but Duncan knows they can’t afford to fix it.  These two need to make a decision before they lose everything, including each other.

With a strong, superb cast, this movie is funny in its own right.  While it does follow the Hallmark format of ex-lovers forced to work together, their path differs because the whole neighborhood is at stake.  The neighborhood knows the history of the home and their relationship.  They will do everything to keep both running strong.  Seeing them butt in is hilarious and worth the watch.  DVR and watch on a rainy day.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

This is a fun drama with some suspense.  You will have an idea how it will end and you are right.  It tries to add a twist but its typical for a Lifetime movie.  While the story does develop quickly, you will be entertained by Devin ramping up the crazy.  Whether he is attacking a tutor, a bandmate, or himself, his ability to go from 0 to 100 is amazing.  Devin is the reason to watch.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

Royal Hearts – Review

Royal Hearts – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Royal Hearts

Kelly grew up a proud ranch hand and cowgirl under the tutelage of her father Henry in Montana.  But as she got older, she found a love for books especially Jane Austen (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  Now all grown up, Kelly is an assistant professor working on her doctorate.  She feels her father is disappointed she didn’t take up the family ranching tradition.  So telling him that she plans to leave for Oxford, has been difficult to do.  Once she finally musters up the courage, she is interrupted by Mr. Grimsby.  He tells Henry that is great, great grandfather left his country to marry an American woman of which his family did not approve.  However, Henry is the oldest living heir of his recently deceased uncle, leaving him the heir to a large estate.  In order to claim the estate, Henry must travel to the other side the world.  With a little prodding, Kelly convinces Henry to go.  Once they arrive, they learn that the estate comes with a title: King.  Now King Henry and Princess Kelly have to decide the fate of everyone in their kingdom.  But with outside forces like a council and love, Henry may give up the throne.  But the king’s ranch hand Alex may have something to say about that.

This is one of the best Hallmark movies in a long time.  While adjusting to life as a king, Henry instills his country wisdom of hard work and pride.  He is appalled at the idea of raising taxes to improve his castle.  While giving them some cowboy moxie, he has to decide if he wants to be a king or dissolve his country into King Nicholas’s, Ambrosia.  Just as King Henry is deciding, his daughter Kelly is falling for Nicholas; while Alex is falling for Kelly.   This love triangle is where most Hallmark movies will leave it, but this one delves into the complex relationships between fathers and daughters.  Royal Hearts is one of the strongest, in-depth storylines this network has produced in years.  And the scenery will make your heart melt.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars

Home Invasion – Review

Home Invasion – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Home Invasion

Every 12 minutes a home is invaded.  And as home invasions go up, criminals are performing them during a different time of the day to throw off suspension.  While Chloe spends another night wondering where her husband is, she is visited by her friend Alice.  Chloe explains she is trying her best to make a good life for her step-son Jacob with no help from his recently absent father.  As the ladies talk and sip, there is a knock at the door.  Alice checks the door and is shot.  Chloe quickly locks the door and calls 911.  She grabs Jacob and hides.  She starts to talk to her security company to dispatch help.  With her high tech house, her security professional Mike is the eye in the sky.  Chloe believes help is on the way soon.  However, with a record rainstorm, closed bridge, power outages, and disconnected phone lines, Chloe and Jacob may not make it through the night.

Be prepared to be on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.  This movie starts with the start of the home invasion.  But cuts to 6 hours earlier to help you understand the family dynamic between Jacob, Chloe, and her husband.  While this does take a little time to explain, it’s 100% worth it.  You can feel your panic rise as Chloe tries to remain still and quiet.  When she is disconnected from Mike, you start to get nervous.  And the end will leave you wanting a part 2.  Lifetime pay attention: THIS IS HOW SUSPENSE IS DONE!

Wedding March 3: Here Comes the Bride – Review

Wedding March 3: Here Comes the Bride – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Wedding March 3: Here Comes the Bride

While Mick and Olivia’s relationship is still in limbo, Mick is flabbergasted when his sister Bonnie comes to the Inn with big news.  She is getting married to a guy she has known for 8 months. If that isn’t shocking enough for Mick, she is marrying his former bandmate Sean.  Sean left the band high and dry years ago, leaving a bad taste in Mick’s mouth.  Olivia tells Mick to give them a chance but Mick is steadfast in his feeling that this is a huge mistake.  And to make matters harder for Mick, Julie wants to leave school and go to culinary school.  While Julie is solely focused on changing her father’s mind, he doesn’t see Wyatt falling apart.  It will take some flowers and some heart-to-heart talks to bring this family together.

This movie focuses more on Mick’s relationship with his family.  He treats is sister more like a daughter because he took care of her after their father died.  Meanwhile, his daughter is growing up faster than he wants.  So he has to handle a lot of complicated relationships at the same time.  While this movie does stand on its own, seeing the other movies will help you understand the complicated past of Olivia and Mick.  This movie is good, however, seeing Mick’s expression to Julie’s dress up will leave you laughing until it hurts.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars
