Ben and Angela are a week away from getting married, but Ben still wants to prove himself to his future brother-in-law, James. This time, he doesn’t want to prove himself as a husband, but as a detective. During a sting, Ben and James find an un-crackable thumb drive that was ‘signed’ by its hacker, AJ. James decided to head to Miami to find AJ. Of course, Ben wants to go with James and show him, along with Lieutenant Brooks, that catching Omar wasn’t a one-time fluke. At first James says, “Hell No!!!!” But as a “favor” to his sister, he decides to let Ben Ride Along. They hope that by finding A.J. and cracking the thumb drive, they can find who is supplying drugs and guns to Atlanta.
Is Ride Along 2 better than the first … no. Is Ride Along 2 worse than the first … no. The movie jokes with the audience that its doing the same thing again. Adding Dr. Ken Jeong to the mix as your non-stereotypical hacker was a great choice. His comedic timing with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart is perfect. This movie stands out because of the “Ben Mode Driving” and knowing who the bad guy is from the beginning. The writer decided that the original formula was good for the first and kept it going. If you enjoyed the first movie, see this one as a matinee. But it is best to see the first movie to get some of the references.
