Cassie is a normal, soccer playing, fun loving, big sister who thinks that everyday high school problems, in Ohio, is the end of the world. Then, “The Others” come and the end of the world happens. For the first 10 days, “The Others” just hover over the world, then they hit the world in 5 waves.
- Darkness/Lights Out – an electromagnet pulse cuts off all electricity causing transit to crash, communication to stop working, and water to stop running
- Destruction/Surfs Up – massive floods, tidal waves, and tsunamis are set off destroying coastal lines and wiping out entire islands
- Infection/Pestilence – the bird flu is modified and spread, killing a gargantuan amount of people
- Invasion/Silencers – “The Others” take over human host and walk among us
- Well … that won’t be given away for the sake of people who haven’t read the book … ssshhhh!!!
During the 4th wave, Cassie, being a great big sister, is separated from her brother, Sam. Sam is taken to a safe military base; and is trained to fight “The Others”. Being the only family she has left, Cassie will do anything to find her brother. During this pursuit, Cassie kills, finds love, and finds strength. But, will she ever find her brother and discover the 5th wave? Only the PURSUIT will tell.
Based on the book, The 5th Wave: The First Book of the 5th Wave Series, this action movie has something for everyone: Suspense (although you will figure it out before the main character does), Drama, and Love (family and romantic) (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). The computer graphics blends seamlessly with the live action sequences and the few fight sequences are splendidly choreographed. Each wave is played out to make you feel a connection to the loss and destruction. It is easy to see how your town would be effected in each wave. Although, it is not evident how book purest will like the movie, but it is enjoyable. Its is worth seeing for full price. Oh, and be prepared for the pending video game. If you have read the book, comment what you think of the movie compared to its inspiration.
