A Christmas Melody – Hallmark Channel- 2 hours
Kristen, a widowed mom, must re-evaluate her dreams after her L.A. boutique closes for good. Her Aunt Sarah advises her to move back to her hometown of Silver Falls, Ohio and stay in her parents’ home. Kristen is trying her best to maintain a positive attitude for not only herself, but her daughter, Emily, too. Emily just hopes to make new friends and be able to sing at her new school, but she writes a letter to Santa asking to come back to LA. So with all of their belongings, they make the drive from LA to Ohio. Once Kristen and Emily complete the move, Kristen quickly runs into a “still crushing” music teacher and a competitive classmate. As Emily starts to make friends, she worries her original wish of moving to LA will come true. Now, she wants to stay in Ohio and hopes her mom finds love. Which holiday wish will Santa grant?
Mariah Carey, a 1st time director of this film, did a great job directing. Her delivery of Melissa, the mean girl of the PTA, was spot on. It makes you wonder how much is Mariah like Melissa in real life. This is a typical holiday story with a typical ending. The only stand outs are the product placements. This movie will not be a classic, but it is decent and cute for a quick and dirty holiday movie. Not spectacular but decent and cute.
For holiday fans: I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars
