Killer Twin – Review

Killer Twin – Lifetime – 2 hours and 2 minutes

Killer Twin

Amber looks at a newspaper and sees her face staring back at her.  Only that face belongs to her twin sister Kendra.  When they were a few years old, the manager of their orphanage didn’t tell Kendra’s adoptive parents that she had a twin.  Kendra was adopted and Amber was left behind to age out of the system.  Gazing upon Kendra, Amber sees the life she could have had if she were adopted instead of Kendra.  Amber thinks Kendra has had the “good life” long enough and she wants if for herself.  Amber will steal, con, and kill to take over Kendra’s life.  And when she does, her life will be complete.

The interesting twist about this movie is that Kendra doesn’t remember her sister.  She believes that someone broke into her home, stole her identity, and started using her cards.  Although she knows she was adopted, the just doesn’t remember having a twin.  And it is a visual feast seeing Lindsay Hartley, play a character acting like another character.  She adds a few subtle changes when she is Amber pretending to be Kendra.  It makes the story believable for the audience that this woman is really a twin.  Check out this movie today.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

I’ll Be Watching – Review

I’ll Be Watching – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

I'll Be Watching

Kate works in a bookstore while attending college.  She spends her personal time at home, reading, and studying.  Her neighbor Nate offers to take her to dinner to get her out the house.  After a few tries, she agrees and has a good time.  Until she gets home and finds a bloody purple rose.  Creeped out, she calls the police and Detective Paine comes to take her statement.  Kate discovers that the rose and Nate are both gone.  While the detective believes her, there is nothing more he can do.  Kate tries to go on with her life until she is attacked and someone is killed holding a note for Kira.  The cops decide to give her 24-hour protection.  After a few days, nothing happens and the cops are pulled off Kate’s stalking case.  The very next night, Kate’s stalker attacks her, cuts her, and warns her to keep the cops away or she and the cops are dead.  Kira is hospitalized and wakes up with the cops by her side.  Even though she tells them to go away, they stay.  After she gets the green light to go home, Kate gives the cops the slip and goes on the run.  She contacts the detectives once a week from a blocked number to report but she makes sure to give no details.  While she is holding back her location from them, they are holding back something from her.  They know if she hears it, it will rock her to her core and bring her back.  Back into the arms of her stalker.

Based on The Purple Rose by Christi R. Walsh, this movie sets a new notch on the creepy dial (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  It’s great to see this movie break away from the Lifetime norm.  The cops don’t blow her off and then show up in the last 5 minutes to save her from the killer.  These cops understand the stalker is dangerous and do everything possible to help her.  And in most Lifetime movies, knowing the stalker takes away your fear.  But this time, it doesn’t.  Not at all.  Knowing this stalker’s face makes the fear 10 times worse.  You will get a sick feeling when you watch.  That is what makes this movie great.

I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars

He cut me so no one else would want me – Kate

That looks horrible – Jake

Don’t be sorry and don’t be ashamed – Jack

Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: The Disappearing Game

Aurora his happy to hear her cousin Phillip is coming to visit.  She can’t wait because she knows he has been studying hard a college.  And with his birthday coming up tomorrow, she and her mother Aida hope to take him out to dinner.  When Phillip gets the invite, he asks if his roommate Josh and Josh’s girlfriend Tammy could come along.  Aurora agrees and starts making plans.  The next day, Phillip says he is sick and can’t make it.  Out of concern, Aurora comes to his dorm with chicken soup and can’t find Phillip or Tammy.  Aurora starts looking for Phillip immediately.  Unfortunately, she finds Tammy dead.  Now, Aurora concern grows to panic.  And just when she thinks things can’t get worst, Josh is missing too.  Now Aurora must find Josh and Phillip & discover who killed Tammy.

Like the book series, pay full attention to this story because you are getting 2 mysteries in one (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  Don’t worry, they do come back full circle but you have to focus to understand everything that is going on.  And in complete Aurora fashion, she is doing everything she is told not to do.  But that’s why you love her.  While foreshadowing does give the suspect away, it doesn’t reveal everything.  So keep watching for some juicy reveals.  Unfolding the mystery does go a bit fast, so don’t be surprised if you watch it twice to understand everything that happened.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars

Cheerleader Nightmare – Review

Cheerleader Nightmare – Lifetime – 2 hours and 2 minutes

Cheerleader Nightmare

Sophie is happy to be the official photographer for her school.  Her friend Mikey works with her and her mother is the cheerleading coach.  And she is dating the captain of the football team, Tyler.  While her life is going great, she has one major hater, Leah, the head cheerleader.   Every time Sophie is with Tyler, Leah gives her the stink eye.  Mikey believes Leah is jealous because the head cheerleader should always date the football player.   But Sophie doesn’t believe that’s the reason.  That is, until later that day when Mikey flies a drone over a team party to watch what is going on.  Sophie believes he is being creepy and grabs the goggles.  And in that split second she sees her boyfriend kissing Leah.  Heartbroken she leaves Mikey behind and heads home.  The next morning she wakes up to the horrible news that Leah was found dead.  Worried that she will be a suspect, Sophie decides to investigate.  But will this vigilante become a victim?

This is a good mystery with plenty of viable suspects.  It even allows the audience to eliminate them one by one with the characters.  The “why” for the killing could have been a bit more original, it’s still a good watch.  So DVR this movie and save for a rainy day.  But don’t open that bottle of wine.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

Love on Safari – Review

Love on Safari – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Love on Safari

Kira, a web designer in Chicago, gets a letter from her uncle’s estate in South Africa.  They have been trying to find her for months because her uncle passed away and left her something in his will.  In order to find out what she will receive, she must go to South Africa for the will reading.  While she has picturesque memories of her uncle’s wildlife reserve, she has not been there in years.  After toying with the idea, she decides to go.  Upon arrival, she meets Rangers Tom and Ally.  While Tom is getting Kira reacquainted with the reserve, he is concerned about its survival during the change in ownership.  They have no idea who the new owner will be and a competitor is hoping to buy.  Tom knows this buyer’s reputation and doesn’t believe the buyer will uphold the traditions set forth by Kira’s uncle. So, during the will reading, Tom is floored to hear that Kira is the new owner.  Kira is stunned and bewildered.  She instantly wants to walk away.  To save the reserve and the surrounding village, he has to use his charms to convince Kira to keep the reservation.

While this love story follows the Hallmark format, looking at the breath-taking landscape and the magnificent animals makes this movie worth watching.   It shows the good side of the reservations when they work with the neighboring communities without doing irreparable damage to the wildlife.  It makes you want to see this place up close and personal.  Don’t be surprised if you start looking up ticket prices after the first hour.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

Separated at Birth – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Separated at Birth

In 1990, Elizabeth’s daughter Victoria was kidnapped from the hospital.  Now, Elizabeth is running for Governor with a 7 point deficit.  She wants something to boost her “tough on crime” campaign against her constituent’s “family values” campaign.  Then Elizabeth notices a woman sitting in her office who only wants to speak to her.  The woman is Lucy and believes she is Elizabeth stolen daughter Victoria.  While Lucy has Victoria’s birthmark, Elizabeth and her daughter Terri want more proof: A DNA test.  When Lucy is proven to be Victoria, Elizabeth is swayed to put her in front of the cameras to boost her campaign.  Lucy is now a national darling while Terri is the black sheep.  With shoplifting and drunk driving arrest, Terri was never an angel but her past actions are brought to life with her perfect sister discovered.  Terri’s jealousy will lead to a sex tape, statutory rape charges, and a sister on the run.

This psychological twister will leave you guessing with each plot twist.  No character is innocent and no character is completely guilty.   You wonder who to root for during the movie.  Elizabeth is quick to dismiss her daughters for her campaign.  Lucy acts like an angel but has the smile of the devil.  And Terri’s past doesn’t breed confidence.  At the end, you will be shocked at the turn of events and yet oddly satisfied.  This is a movie to watch for its devious ways, great storyline, and Terri’s hair goals.   Record and watch this movie twice.

I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars

My Secret Valentine – Review

My Secret Valentine – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

My Secret Valentine

Just days before the Valentine’s Day Wine Fest, Chloe Grange has returned home to consider a job offer and visit her dad to hear his big news.   Seth has been given a deadline from his company.  They want to become legitimate in the wine industry by moving away from trendy wines and working with an established vineyard.  The vineyard they want is Grange Family Vineyards.  Chloe has no idea her father wants to sell the vineyard but when she finds out, she wants to be part of the process to ensure her father gets a good deal.  So she watches Seth like a hawk.  She believes he is just another corporate leach.  And he believes she is an annoyance.  Chloe’s only escape is the renter in her family’s cabin.  To make ends meet, the vineyard’s manager Leanne rented the cabin noting it needs repairs.  Chloe writes a message for the renter stating repairs would be made and to make themselves at home.  The renter writes back.  After some time, the messages become flirty.  She wants to meet but will he infatuation last when Chloe learns her secret valentine is Seth?

A kind story with a good message about first impressions not being the best.  However, when the two find out who their valentine is, this movie falls out the Hallmark format.  The attraction between Chloe and Seth is believable.  And the father-daughter connection is undeniable.  This is a good movie to DVR and view later.  But watch it with a good glass of wine on hand.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

I Am Elizabeth Smart

God offers hope in the darkest places – Elizabeth Smart

On June 5, 2002, Elizabeth Smart vanished from her home and left little trace.  A manhunt ensued for the 14-year-old girl, but no one had any idea what she was going through.  She was kidnapped by Brian David Mitchell and held captive in the woods with the help of Wanda Barzee for 9 months.  She was raped every day, sometimes twice a day, starved, beaten, and restrained into submission.  Brian attempted to rename Elizabeth, but she renamed herself, Ester.  Ester was the 2nd wife who tricked the king without a weapon.   Since she could not overpower her captors, she had to outsmart them.  Winning their trust by doing chores and listening, Elizabeth waited for the first chance of manipulation and escape.  She was there as Brian and Wanda’s relationship deteriorated and jealousy took hold.  But her tenacity, patience, and faith made her rescue possible.

Based on the autobiography My Story by Elizabeth A. Smart, this is a painful yet necessary story (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  The most painful scenes are cut just in time for the real Elizabeth to narrate her own terror.  The pain she endured while hearing people search for her, withstanding the holidays without family, and screaming silently for help was unbearable.  This story will hopefully put an end to victim blaming and start perpetrator shaming.  This movie speaks of survival and finding hope in the smallest thing.  Elizabeth found hope in a cup of water, rain, and a safety pin.  Elizabeth’s story should be seen by everyone and she hopes you will never understand.  Because understanding only comes from experience.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars

Do you want it to stop? So did I – Elizabeth Smart (narrator)

The Preacher’s Son – Review

The Preacher’s Son – BET – 1 hour and 55 minutes

The Preacher's Son

Dante is the son of a Bishop T.K. Wilson and First Lady Charlene Wilson and brother to his younger sister Donna.  He dreams of being a lawyer even though his mother has him on a preacher’s path.  So much so, she secretly applied for him to go to Howard University Divinity school and he got in.  But he hasn’t told his mom he got into law school too.  After calling off his affair with a married woman named Anita, Dante meets Tanisha; down on her luck with a little brother and drug-addicted mother.  Dante helps her in 2 separate acts of kindness and he asks her out on a date.  After two dates, they are smitten with each other, but Tanisha is holding back a secret from the preacher’s son, she is a stripper.  But Tanisha is not the only one with secrets.  Donna is pregnant but refuses to tell her parents whom father the child.   And the father of her baby is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.  During a wedding, everything comes to the surface causing everyone’s secrets and lies are exposed.

Based on The Preacher’s Son by Carl Weber, this movie will leave you speechless (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  You will want to watch this more than once so get your DVRs ready.  During the wedding and church meeting, so much is revealed your head will spin.  OMG and WTF are understatements.  This movie could have been a soap opera with everything happening.  On the downside,  it was difficult to understand somethings being said because the backing track was drowning out the actors.  Also, some of the camera work was too shaky.  Otherwise, the actors created extraordinary performances and the screenplay was well adapted.  Get your wine ready and be sure not to spill it.

I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars

Engaging Father Christmas – Review

Engaging Father Christmas – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Engaging Father Christmas

It’s been over 7 weeks since Ian and Miranda have seen each other and a year since Miranda has seen the Whitcombs.  She is looking forward to going to Carlton Heath and seeing everyone again.  While at the airport waiting for Ian, she runs into her old boyfriend Josh.  After a brief discussion, Miranda tells Josh her secret: the actor James Whitcomb is her father.  Josh is shocked but promised to keep her secret.  Once Miranda is back in Boston she starts getting “unknown” phone calls and text.  She ignores them and focuses on Ian and her family.  It difficult to be a “family friend” instead of a sister but she doesn’t to lose her connection to her father.  So she keeps the family secret.  With everything going on, Miranda’s love for Ian deepens when he pops the question.  She is ready to start a life with him in Boston, but she keeps getting texts.  But the latest one shakes her faith in family, grace, and truth.  Can the Whitcombs handle the exposure? Will Miranda lose the only connection to her father?

Based on the book Engaging Father Christmas by Robin Jones Gunn, this movie is just as intriguing as the first (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  The first was about finding her father, but the second is about engaging with her new found family.  However, in order to keep James Whitcomb’s public persona, she is asked to keep quiet or play the “family friend” in interviews.  As a viewer, it’s hard to watch or feels like a rejection.  This conflict makes a good movie great.  While they all love each other, the elephant in the room is hard to ignore.  Even her nephew has an opinion.  However, the mystery lies in who is sending the text messages to Miranda.  Is it Josh (the ex), Josh’s brother, or the Rachel (the Whitcomb’s reporter)?  Experienced Hallmark watchers will see the culprit a mile away but that’s not the end.  It’s only the beginning.  This movie is a wonderful addition to the series.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

Enchanted Christmas – Review

Enchanted Christmas – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Enchanted Christmas

Laura is ready to settle down for the holidays with her daughter Nikki.  But her boss Oliver has an announcement.  He has purchased a new hotel called the Enchanted Lodge and with 8 weeks of work needed, she has 4 weeks to get it done.  It needs to be done before the town’s Enchanted Christmas Show.  This show has always been hosted at the hotel, which Laura knows all too well.  She grew up in Rosemont, Utah and danced in the show every year with her partner Ricardo.  She doesn’t want to go back to Utah and the old memories but she must in order to keep her job.  She is encouraged by her boyfriend Scott to go and hopes the job can be completed quickly.  But Laura doesn’t know that Ricardo is back in Utah to help with the show.  It’s only a matter of time before the two run into each other.  Will this be their last dance or will the two tango again?

Sweet yet predictable.  This movie falls into the same plot as most Hallmark movies so the journey must be new and intriguing.  This one just falls flat.  There was a moment when Eddie, Scott, and Ricardo were all in the same room surrounding Laura asking questions.  This was a prime opportunity to have back and forth comments (not fighting, but slide comments), but this never happened.  This movie is background noise, nothing more.  You know how it starts, climaxes, and ends.

I give it 2 out of 5 stars

A Song for Christmas – Review

A Song for Christmas – HMM – 2 hours and 0 minutes

A Song for Christmas

Country music star Adelaide feels like a puppet for her manager Russell.  Russell wants her to sing songs she hates, lie about dating another star, and eat what he wants her to eat.  Adelaide wants to write her own songs but her first album flopped.  So Russell wants her to continue on the path he has worked out for her rising career.  After a night in a B&B, Adelaide is overlooked and accidentally left behind.  She gets help for a local girl named Hailey who offers her a phone call and a place to sit.  But when Adelaide is stuck for several days, Hailey and her family offer Adelaide (now being called Addy) a place to stay.  Addy learns that Hailey’s brother Dillon dreams of singing but can’t get over his fears.  While his family supports him singing, he doesn’t want to leave because the family farm is about to be foreclosed.  The family hasn’t given up hope but they only have to the end of the month to turn things around.  Addy wants to help Dillian and the family farm but she knows their pride will stop her.  She must do everything she can to help the family without offering money.

“A Farm for Christmas” feels like a better title for this film.  The song itself feels like a subplot for this movie, not the main storyline.  You will find yourself more concerned about this nice family and how they will keep their farm.  This is a story that is affecting so many farmers today that you focus that and not the love story.  While the song is not your focus, it is a good song that was sung by both the actors.  They are just as amazing acting as they are singing.  DVR and watch this movie when you have a moment.

The Sweetest Christmas – Review

The Sweetest Christmas – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

The Sweetest Christmas

Kylie is having a rough year. She lost her job as a pastry chef, can’t find work at another restaurant, was turned down for a business loan, and moved in with her sister Tina. Kylie hopes that things will get better because her boyfriend Alex is preparing a special dinner. When what she believes to be an engagement dinner turns into a promotion dinner, she breaks up with Alex. Then Kylie gets good news, she is a semifinalist in the American Ginger Bread competition. The grand prize is $25,000. This will cover her student loan debt and help start her online baking company. However, when her sister’s oven burns out, with resistance, she asks the one person she believes can help; her ex-boyfriend Nick. Still carrying a torch for her, he agrees. If Kylie thought the competition would be her single biggest source of stress, she has no idea what’s to come.

“This time is going to be different” is a very important phrase in this movie. And for Hallmark, this movie is different. She doesn’t go to the restaurant to get dumped, she dumps the inattentive boyfriend. She doesn’t hate Nick at first, she has always loved him. Also, her final gingerbread entry isn’t perfect “for TV”. It looks like a real entry made by a real person. With a lot of heart-warming moments, you will be given plenty of laughs with Ralphie and Bobby’s banter. No one can match their quick and honest quips. Just to warn you, have gingerbread and hot cocoa close by.

Bobbi Kristina – Review

Bobbi Kristina – TVOne – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Bobbi Kristina

Bobbi Kristina carries a deep guilt after her mother’s passing.  She regrets telling her mother she hated her.  Also, she almost drowned in the tub before Whitney died and was saved by her mother.  She feels like it should have been her.  She is now feeling the pressure to continue her moms legacy while trying to forge her own identity.  Bobbie Kristina hates being alone so she allows Nick to continue to live with her and be with her every step of the way as her play brother.   However, when Nick learns Whitney’s will does not involve him, he becomes focused on helping Bobbi Kristina realize her dreams.  Bobbi Kristina’s hole deepens as a friend ODs, her family loses its show, Nick becomes abusive, and her addition grows.  Her story will end just as abruptly as her mother’s.

The world knows about her birth and death, but this story focuses on her downward spiral.  The people around her tried to warn her about Nick.  However, it’s unsure how much they knew about her drug addiction.   With flashback, you will see how Nick came to live with Whitney and Bobbi Kristina, her view on her parents’ marriage, and her view on her mother’s addiction.  As Bobbie Kristina tried to act and sing for her mother’s legacy in a sad way she completed it.  By dying in the same manner her mother died and being involved in a toxic relationship with an abusive man, Bobbie Kristina continued the most painful parts of her mothers legacy.  The only question that went unanswered was: How did Nick and Kristina meet.  The actors did a magnificent job with portraying Whitney Houston and Bobbie Kristina.   Their work didn’t stop at how their counterparts sang but walked, talked, and their micro mannerism.  It is obvious that each actor poured 100% of themselves into this project.  TV One is having a great start for their movies.  Hopefully, it will continue.

I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars

Me and you against the world, right? – Whitney

I loved your mother, Krissy – Bobby Brown

Sweetheart, what have you done? – Pat

Wicked Mom’s Club – Review

Wicked Mom’s Club – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Wicked Mom's Club

Mandy has decided to move with her daughter Riley to a new town. She wants to leave behind her failed marriage and Riley drug addiction.  Mandy accompanies Riley on her first day of school to meet the other Gymnastic moms, who are also PTA Members.  She meets:

  1. Olivia – Head of the Gym Moms, Head of the PTA, Mother of Chelsea
  2. Suki – A Gym Mom, ousted from the group, mother of Hailey
  3. Colleen – A Gym Mom, PTA member, flirt, married to a police officer
  4. Reyna – A Gym Mom, PTA member, mother of Taylor
  5. Ellis – A Gym Dad, not a part of the group, PTA member, contractor

Mandy is invited to join Olivia for drinks at the country club and yoga.  While Mandy is not used to being this highly involved in school activities, she welcomes the distraction.  Olivia offers to help Mandy with her blog and Mandy confides to her about herself and Riley.  Mandy is relieved to have a friend.  Soon, her blog skyrockets, she is helping the PTA’s marketing, she connects with Ellis, and Riley is a rising star on the Gymnastics team.  Mandy and Riley are both at ease in the new town.  But as soon as they rise, they start to fall.  Mandy loses endorsement deals for her blog, Riley is suspended, Ellis’s relationship with her is over, and she is in jail.   However, Mandy thinks she knows why.  Just a few days after moving in, Mandy was warned that she would end up like Ginny, a mom who committed suicide.  Then Mandy finds Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche and finds a photo with Olivia’s eye scratched out (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  Now, can Mandy stop the monster without becoming a monster?

Oh, the shade of it all.  Inspired by real events, this movie proves there is no age limit for being a Mean Girl (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  This movie does allow you to sympathize and root for Mandy.  While she is warned about Olivia, she wants to give her a chance.  But when things fall apart, she is quick to place the blame where it deserves.  The rally cry to join forces is heard and championed by all.  Once again, to fight a bully, you need to lay all your cards on the table and face them head-on.  There is one part that is hard to wrap your head around in this movie.  Wasn’t a mom committing suicide enough to make people stand up to Olivia? They should have rallied against Olivia then.  It should not take a new mom to stir up the pot.  While this movie did juggle a lot of characters and personalities well, more interaction between the wives and husbands would have helped.  This is a great movie to watch while sipping your tea.

With a few days until the festivities, Brian is trying to keep Jenny calm.  There is so much work to do before the Inn opens.  When one thing is fixed, 3 more seem to break.  However, Jenny keeps working hard to get things together.  But mother nature deals one striking blow, it knocks out all the electricity in the Inn.  Jenny is able to talk the guest into staying, but Brian decides to go back to Wall Street to make fast money to fix the damage.  As Brian spend more time away, Jenny is worried that the lure of Wall Street will keep him away.  She doesn’t want to influence his opinion but she wants Brian to come back to small-town life.

It’s nice to see a couple works together for a common goal.  And to get Brian to see the beauty of small-town life, Jenny doesn’t connive or scheme, she just visits and tell him that she misses him.  This is enough to make him reconsider climbing the corporate ladder again.  This is another lesson for the couple’s communications skills.  Neither wants to force the person’s decisions, but they want to be heard.  It will take most of the movie and advice from friends for them to figure it out.  This storyline is a problem real-life couples, but it’s Hallmark so you know how it’s going to end.  So record this one and use it as background noise.

I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars

I’m from the mean streets of Manhattan, being nice is a big adjustment – Brian

I miss you. I miss us – Jenny

Don’t let the suit define the man – Tony

She’s clearly an amateur – Denise

A Mother’s Crime – Review

A Mother’s Crime – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

A Mother's Crime

Uninvited, Danielle comes to her sister’s Nikki’s house. Nikki is having a birthday party for her daughter Becky. So, seeing Danielle, with a baby in tow, is an unpleasant surprise for Nikki. After a few harsh words, Nikki allows Danielle and her baby Cali to stay the night. While Nikki and Becky are asleep, Danielle takes Nikki’s wallet and runs with Cali. While on the road, Cali gets sick and Danielle takes her to the hospital. Danielle uses Nikki’s credit card to pay for anything the baby needs. Danielle steps out to call her boyfriend Gunner. Gunner advises Danielle to meet him so they can run together but when he learns that Cali is with them, he tells Danielle to choose. Him or the baby. During this time, Nikki is at work when her friend Millie shows her horrible news. Danielle is wanted for murdering her husband. Danielle quickly reports Nikky to the police. Soon the hospital arrests Danielle as she is about to abandon Cali for Gunner. Since Nikki is Cali closest relative, she picks her up. At first, she wants to give her up for adoption but changes her mind. Danielle signs away her parental rights and goes to jail for 7 years for manslaughter. While Danielle has given up Cali on paper, she will get her daughter back. By any means necessary.

One thing is clear, Nikki and Danielle hate each other.  But there is never a specific reason why.  Just comments about the past.  Without knowing the history behind the hatred, Nikki comes off as cold, hard, and mean.  However, her feelings may be justified.  If only we knew.  You will get a sense of how much Cali is loved and wanted.  Even if some of the love is misguided.  Especially when she is kidnapped twice within a day “for her benefit”.  It becomes easy to see how Becky feels neglected and starts to resent the people around her.  While this movie has it’s gaps, it’s still watchable.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

You got knocked up. Good for you – Nikki

She’s your sister – Millie

Baby? You brought the baby with you? – Gunner

Just remember, I’m always gonna be your mommy – Danielle

Killer Mom – Review

Killer Mom – Lifetime – 2 hours and 2 minutes

Killer Mom

Jessica is having a hard time. Her husband was just arrested for investment fraud, she lost her home and possessions, and she moved into her friend’s parent’s home. Her friend Simone made a statement that got her wheels turning. “At least we don’t have kids to work about”. Jessica had a daughter that she gave up for adoption and her biological father Cameron has millions. When it’s reported that Cameron (a widower) died in a plane crash, leaving his 2 daughters alone with an inheritance, she goes to see her daughter Alison. After losing both of her parents, Alison is quick to invite Jessica into their home. But her big sister Sydni doesn’t trust Jessica. Sydni ignores her instinct for her sister’s happiness. But when their “Uncle” Aaron is caught with child porn, their housekeeper’s mother is attacked, and drugs are found in Sydni’s car, Sydni knows Jessica is behind it all. But its what they don’t know that will surprise them all.

This movie is a guilty pleasure with twists and turns for Jessica, Alison, and Sydni. Within the first 5 minutes, your jaw will hit the floor with one bang. In 20 minutes, you will be sipping tea on all the family secrets. Jessica’s character is maniacally delicious. As she manipulates everyone in her path, you will countdown to who will fall next. Also, don’t be fooled by Sydni. She may come off as a typical Lifetime spoiled brat, but that works in her favor. While it’s not the ending you expect, it’s definitely satisfying. Be sure to watch this with snacks, tea, and time to give it your full attention.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

The Stalker Club – Review

The Stalker Club – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

The Stalker Club

Ashley left her friend Meredith behind for her new boyfriend Darren and his friends (Chloe, Sadie, Mark). Even though she hangs out with the group, she is still treated like an outsider. But during lunch, they discuss a text they all got asking them to join “The Stalker Club”. No one clicked the link before, so they all decide to join together. The game rules are:

  1. Draw a piece of paper from the hat. All but one will be marked a victim. The other is stalker
  2. If you get “stalker”, you have to stalk the others
  3. Stalkers are allowed to throw people off their scent
  4. If you unmask the stalker and you are wrong, you are out
  5. If you unmask the stalker and you are right, you win
  6. As soon as you join, you can’t tell anyone about “Stalker Club”

The club seems like a good idea, but Ashley is quickly scared by a mask, banging on the door, and text messages. She wants out but her friends think she is just being a wimp. So they start to work together to figure out who is the stalker. However, when the game goes too far and players are dying, Ashley (threaten by the group) still keeps the secret. What will it take for the group to ask for help? And who is the killer/stalker?

If you think you know who is the stalker, then you are most likely wrong. It doesn’t take too long for the body count to increase and accusation to fly among the group. As you get to know each group member, you learn they are all dealing with different issues (cutting, alcoholism, illness, criminal records). This is a fun watch for suspense lover but not horror. This is a Lifetime movie, so they can only have so much gore. And just when you think you figured out the stalker/killer, they will be killed. So don’t get attached. So DVR and watch in the daytime with the door locked. And yes, it looks like there will be a part two.

I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars

I have a note from my doctor that says I can’t do this – Sadie

I think we should do it, join stalker club – Chloe

It’s better. We’re not going to be playing a game, we are going to be living it – Mark

It’s just a stupid game. And I gonna win – Ashley

You know, we were best friends – Meredith

The Psycho She Met Online – Review

The Psycho She Met Online – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

The Psycho She Met Online

After Karen’s husband Andrew has an accident, she looks through their finances. With Andrew unable to work, their house underwater, and maxed out credit cards, Karen knows her EMT job won’t cut it. She must find a way to make another income. Her friend Aubrey shows her that she can make $7500 a month by renting rooms in her home to vacationers looking to skip hotels. She is skeptical, but when she sees landlord reviews along with an easy payment system, she posts her rooms online. Within 24 hours, she has several renters. She weaves through the renters and her first selection is Miranda. Miranda is in town on business and wants to rent for a week. But that’s only what Miranda tells Karen. Miranda has been stalking Karen and Andrew online for months and uses this opportunity to get closer to them. Soon, she is placing hidden cameras, canceling other guest rental agreements, and stopping anyone who may come between her and the family.

This thrill ride is delicious. Especially if you like rooting for the psycho with an amazing wardrobe. In Lifetime movies, it seems to be standard that the best dress person is the craziest person. The difference in this movie is Karen’s response to finding out the truth about Miranda. She doesn’t give Miranda the benefit of the doubt, she just kicks her out. This is what you scream for in other movies. “She’s nuts, why do you keep forgiving her!!!” Not Karen. Her friend Aubrey is quick to see the crazy in Miranda as well. Having protagonist that are not idiots is great. Lifetime struck silver with this movie.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

There you are. I finally found you – Miranda

Please give me good guest, soon – Karen

That you are. That you are – Andrew

No Karen needs to know what kind of liar you are – Aubrey

Moonlight In Vermont – Review

Moonlight In Vermont – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Moonlight In Vermont

Fiona loves the fast paced life of New York and her job in real estate. She’s juggling everything when her boyfriend Nate decides he has had enough and dumps her. Seeing Fiona is still hung up on her ex, her friend Angela tells her that they should take a vacation. Angela believes the best place to go is Fiona’s father’s B&B in Vermont. Even though she has issues with her dad, Fiona decides she needs to get away from lovestruck New Yorkers. Once in Vermont, Fiona still can’t slow down, which irritates everyone, including the new chef Derek. Derek thinks Fiona is a New York princess and she thinks he is a Vermont lumberjack. She tries to steer clear of the tightly wound chef and attends the Maple Fair with Angela. While at the fair, Fiona sees Derek cooking and Nate … with his new girlfriend Hailey. She is floored by Nate presence and quickly lies. She tells Nate that she is there with her boyfriend Derek. Derek doesn’t want to go with the lie but when Fiona offers her real estate skills to get him a coveted piece of land, he agrees. Derek and Fiona spend time together to keep up the ruse but will being fake make love real.

With the Moonlight in Vermont by Frank Sinatra playing it the background, this love story is typical. Two people can’t stand each other, have to deal with each other for a lie, make a deal, and fall in love. For Hallmark, this is the same story with a different location and a different fair. There is no real surprise in this movie. Even when Fiona and her father talk out their differences, it’s the same old song and dance. The story is not interesting, but the actors did a great job. This rating was only saved by the acting. DVR this movie and watch when you need background noise.

I give it 2 out of 5 stars

We are a great couple when we see each, but I am not dating your schedule – Nate

A Wish for Christmas – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

A Wish for Christmas

Sarah is a walking doormat for her friend (Molly), boss (Dirk), and coworkers (Brian). But all that will change when she gets a card from Santa at an office Christmas party. The card allows her to have one wish for Christmas; and that wish would last 48 hours. She only ask for one thing … courage. With courage, Sarah believes she would get credit for her work and respect. The wish takes a hold instantly and Sarah stands up to Dirk at the Christmas office party for stealing her ideas. With The next day Sarah goes to work to pack up, fearing the worst. However, she gets great news from Peter (the CEO of the company). He wants to give her Dirk’s job and fly to meet with potential client to pitch her idea. Sarah just hopes this wish will last until the client meeting, but in their travels she learns so much more about Peter, his family, and his traditions.

A Wish for Christmas kicks off Hallmark 2017 Countdown to Christmas season with a great stride. This movie has all the elements that Hallmark fans will love. It has decorations, food, and love. The cast genuinely looks like they are enjoying themselves and each other. Also a message is given without being preachy or hammering it into your head. The lesson: Everything you need is inside of you. However the downside, is that the ending is predictable for any movie watcher. This is a good movie to start your holiday season. So, put away the wine and get some cocoa.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

I know. Christmas isn’t all its cracked up to be – Peter

A Christmas Melody – Review

Posted on Updated on

A Christmas Melody – Hallmark Channel- 2 hours

A Christmas Melody

Kristen, a widowed mom, must re-evaluate her dreams after her L.A. boutique closes for good.  Her Aunt Sarah advises her to move back to her hometown of Silver Falls, Ohio and stay in her parents’ home.   Kristen is trying her best to maintain a positive attitude for not only herself, but her daughter, Emily, too.  Emily just hopes to make new friends and be able to sing at her new school, but she writes a letter to Santa asking to come back to LA.  So with all of their belongings, they make the drive from LA to Ohio.  Once Kristen and Emily complete the move, Kristen quickly runs into a “still crushing” music teacher and a competitive classmate.   As Emily starts to make friends, she worries her original wish of moving to LA will come true.  Now, she wants to stay in Ohio and hopes her mom finds love.  Which holiday wish will Santa grant?

Mariah Carey, a 1st time director of this film, did a great job directing.  Her delivery of Melissa, the mean girl of the PTA, was spot on.  It makes you wonder how much is Mariah like Melissa in real life.  This is a typical holiday story with a typical ending.  The only stand outs are the product placements.  This movie will not be a classic, but it is decent and cute for a quick and dirty holiday movie.  Not spectacular but decent and cute.

For holiday fans: I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars

For Hallmark fans: I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars

For everyone else: I give it 2 out of 5 stars
