Charlotte and Sam Cooper prepare their home for an annual Christmas get together, however, the family doesn’t know Sam is preparing to move out because he and Charlotte have lost their spark.  Eleanor Cooper, Charlotte and Sam’s daughter, ask a soldier she met at the airport to pose as her boyfriend, so her parents would not pity her single life.  Hank Cooper, Charlotte and Sam’s son, is dealing with a divorce, job loss, and mouthy children.  Emma Cooper, Charlotte’s sister, wants to get the perfect gift for Charlotte … to best her.  This family gets together to find what they truly want and need from themselves and each other.

This movie is a mix of Valentine’s Day with Parenthood and a dash Christmas thrown in.  If you are looking for lots of laughs with a warm and fuzzy end involving Christmas presents … stay home and watch National Lampoon Christmas.  This movie was a little depressing and a lackluster.  For a movie that is less than 2 hours, it does flush out each character beautifully.  You understand each characters motivation … even Officer Percy Williams (who doesn’t need to be in the film).  The overall movie is just dull and sad. This could have been a Made for TV movie on Lifetime or the Hallmark Network.

I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars
