Andy joins her co-workers from The New York Vanguard for the NYPC Journalism Awards. During Andy’s category, the team gets a notification on their phones. They have been laid off, and then Andy wins her category. She walks to the podium and explains why she’s sad during this momentous occasion. The crowd can’t hide their stunned expressions. After the ceremony, she relaxes at home and watches clips of her award speech online when she gets a notification about Miranda. Runway promoted a brand, SpeedFash, with a glowing review. Now, it’s come to light that the brand uses sweatshops, and the public blames Miranda and Runway for promoting them. She gets a call from Irv Ravitz, Runway Chairman. He found out about Andy’s predicament from his son, Jay. He offers her a job. Andy isn’t sure, so she talks it over with Lily and her former co-workers. She will make twice as much and have a say in the publication, but she’s not sure if she wants to return to the belly of the beast. She mentions writing a book about her old boss, Miranda Priestly, and laughs. But her friend texts a publisher. The publisher states a good write-up could fetch $50,000. However, Andy scoffs at the idea. 

Miranda cringes at the memes but continues to run her magazine. Last night, Irv was angry about the exposé and wanted Miranda to fix it. Her future as the next Global Head of Content is in jeopardy. Miranda assured Irv that she had it under control, but it wasn’t enough. He calls and informs Miranda that he handled it, and the new hire will be there at 9. Miranda looks up and sees a gleeful woman she doesn’t recognize. Nigel points out that it’s Andy, also known as one of the Emilys. Andy introduces herself as the new features editor. Miranda scoffs and tells Andy to follow her. She needs to meet with one of their biggest advertisers and convince them to stay with the publication. 

Miranda, her assistant, Amari, Nigel, and Andy arrive at Dior. Andy stands in awe when Emily walks towards her. Emily has biting words before escorting them to a conference room. She negotiates free ad space and a feature for their newest flagship store. Miranda concedes and leaves. Andy can’t believe that Miranda rolled over to Emily’s whims. Miranda explains that Dior makes up 16% of their revenue. If Andy wants things to change, she needs to do what Irv hired her to do: write a feature to sway public opinion. Andy works diligently through the night and creates a wonderful piece. However, it doesn’t move the needle. Once again, Andy isn’t living up to Miranda’s expectations, causing Miranda to miss out on her promotion. Can Andy save Miranda’s reputation?

It took 20 years to create the sequel, and it was worth it (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). The humor is smart, quick, and biting. Icons of the fashion world have joined the fold, and all of your favorites return. The lighting deserves an award because it perfectly displays the fashion and the performances. The montage during the fashion week is legendary, showcasing standout fashion, bold prints, and illuminating fabrics. Some looks will make you chuckle, but that’s fashion. The intelligent script embraces the changes from print to digital media and the publications’ struggles to maintain readers’ interest. It makes several callbacks to the original. As Andy walks the street, she sees a man holding two blue belts for a customer; someone says millions of girls would kill for this job, and she warns an assistant not to go up Miranda’s stairs. You don’t have to watch the 1st to understand the second, but it makes spotting these easter eggs more fun. Like the first, there is a larger story in the works. It captivates your attention and makes this an original story. It will be hard to choose your favorite, but you will love them both. This film is flawless and timeless.

Asset Manager Bobby hired Rachel’s mentor, Braxton, to recover a $1 billion loan her company gave to kingpin, Manny Salazar. When Braxton got the contract signed, he called Bobby with the news. However, Salazar’s goons killed him and destroyed the document. Upset, attorney Rachel walks into Bobby’s office and offers to retrieve the asset. However, Bobby states they can’t afford Rachel. Rachel assures Bobby that she is the only person who can complete the mission alive. She uses legal and illegal maneuvers to obtain her client’s assets. Her secret weapons are Sid and Bronco. Sid is an extractor specialist and mastermind, while Bronco specializes in paramilitary strikes and tactical planning. If Rachel can’t get things done legally, she contacts them to help obtain information illegally to give her an edge in court. With her team, Rachel is confident she will win. Bobby and Rachel work out the terms: 10% plus $10 million upfront.

Rachel deploys Sid near one of Salazar’s upcoming hotels in the Middle East, while Bronco accompanies her to Salazar’s lawyer, Mr. Horowitz’s office. Rachel lays out her terms while Bronco quietly sits in the background. She warns him to pay back the loan, or things will be uncomfortable for Salazar. Mr. Horowitz offers pennies on the dollar. Rachel refuses the offer and leaves. Soon, she chokes Salazar’s revenue streams, confiscates his plane, and docks his boat. Salazar is furious and demands to see Rachel face-to-face since Mr. Horowitz can’t handle it. Rachel informs Sid and Bronco. They determine the trip is dangerous, but they create a plan with several contingencies and hire specialists they can trust. They will bring Rachel safely to Salazar’s island, retrieve the asset, and leave. Of course, nothing can be that easy.

This film relies heavily on the main characters’ narration. The first 15 minutes cover a plethora of information. So viewers must be on time. There is a lot of onscreen text. The director described Rachel’s drink recipe, their copious vehicles, and the plan. This amount of information seems unnecessary at the film’s midpoint because everything smoothly works. However, it comes full circle after Salazar makes a power grab. In this film, the leads never have romantic chemistry because the plot doesn’t force a romance. The thought-provoking action film focuses on witty banter, intricate strategy, and special effects to drive the story forward. This film doesn’t do much with out-of-the-box camera angles or unnecessary gore. This director is as straightforward as his characters. It’s refreshing to see the leads practice their plan because they aren’t superheroes, just two ex-military men with a strategy. Also, the film has a steady pace, leaving you without a second to breathe. If you can handle the constant narration, you will enjoy this film.

Twins Racine and Anaia work cleaning offices at night. When a woman stares at Racine’s scars, she pounces. Their boss fires them. Racine checks the mail and finds a letter from their mother, Ruby. They thought she died in the fire that burned them. Racine can’t believe it, while Anaia wonders why Ruby didn’t write to her, too. Racine believes their mother wrote to her because Anaia is the emotional one. Racine wants to leave now, but Anaia is reluctant. Racine convinces her twin to drive south to the woman she calls God, because she created them.

They arrive at Ruby’s home and check their makeup before entering. Racine sits beside her mother while Anaia stands against the wall. Ruby confirms that she wrote to Racine only because Anaia is emotional. Ruby faked her death because she feared the girls would face more ridicule by being raised by a mother with extensive scarring. Now, she’s sick, and she wants the girls to do one thing: kill their father. Their father, whom Ruby calls The Monster, violated her restraining order. He broke into her house and set her on fire. Racine and Anaia got burns from trying to save their mother. Anaia’s is more severe because she fought longer. Racine’s scars cover her arm and hand, while Anaia’s are on her face and chest. When Anaia shakes her head no, Ruby lifts her blanket so they can see the full extent of her physical damage. Racine agrees. Ruby tells them to kill everything around the Monster before they kill him. Racine and Anaia leave with the address of the woman who stood by the Monster during his trial. Anaia doesn’t want to do it, but Racine tells her to imagine what the world would be like if he had never hurt them. Anaia changes her mind, but can’t kill someone. Racine is fine with doing the work as long as Anaia comes along and doesn’t stop her. These two are the hands of God. Can they complete the mission?

This film is not for the weak. The storytelling is unique and bold. The twins have a mind meld that allows them to communicate with looks. The editor wrote their telepathic communication on the screen, so the audience must pay attention. These actresses did an outstanding job conveying the emotions printed on the screen. When Ruby tells her story, you hear her thoughts in the moment. You will get a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach as she tells her tale. And watch carefully, because this story will return full circle. As the story unfolds, the twins follow their father’s path of destruction. Ruby isn’t the only victim. The special effects department did a heartbreakingly astounding job on the twins’ scars. However, the fire is less believable. While the conclusion is painful, it’s realistic and foreseeable. This movie can be a trigger for domestic violence survivors, but it’s worth a watch and discussion.

Princess Kitana lives under the rule of Shao Kahn after he killed her father, King Jerrod, and enslaved her mother, Queen Sindel. Kitana dreams of the day that the people of Edenia are free from Shao Kahn and the Outworld. Today, she trains with her friend and sparring partner Jade. Jade works as Shao’s sword and warns Kitana to stay on Shao’s good side. Jade knows Shao Khan’s devious plan. He sent his underlings to retrieve Shinnok’s amulet. He will use the amulet to reanimate the dead and make himself immortal. Immortal, he will win Mortal Kombat. He’s won 9 tournaments so far. He will rule the Earthrealm if he and his underlings win the 10th.

Has-been actor Johnny Cage packs up his car after a convention. Lord Raiden and Sonya Blade appear behind him and tell him that he was chosen for Mortal Kombat. Johnny laughs and tells them to go home. Then, Lord Raiden opens a portal. Curiosity gets the best of Johnny, and he walks through. Johnny meets Cole Young, Jax Briggs, and Liu Kang. Unfortunately, they lost Kung Lao in a tournament. They explain the rules of Mortal Kombat to Johnny, but he doesn’t want to participate. They let him leave, and he goes to a bar.

Mortal Kombat starts, and two are up for battle. Sonya is the first pick, but everyone looks around, waiting for the second. At the bar, Johnny teleports to fight. Johnny’s a part of the tournament for the Earthrealm. Will he survive Mortal Kombat with no powers after Shao Kahn becomes immortal?

This eye-catching sequel is leaps and bounds ahead of the first. The opening credits use the game’s font and color scheme. The script removes the game’s explanation and creates a rich backstory for viewers to follow. It helps to see the first film to understand the previous characters and how they tie into the story. However, the 2-second flashbacks help. This movie is funnier, bloodier, and more graphic than the first. The fights are expertly choreographed, and the kill scenes are spot on. Gamer fans will even see their favorite moves and sets and hear the beloved catchphrases. This film will revitalize the gaming movie industry and prove it can be made with eye-catching CGI and a well-crafted story. The pacing does slow down in the middle with inner turmoil, but the new worlds make up for it. This film is for die-hard gamer fans and novice admirers alike.
