Teachers and the government praise a new education bill that raises wages, reduces homework, and much more. While it’s good for most Americans, it’s bad for one batch of students: the North Meadows High 2008 Graduating Class. The new bill mandates that students must attend school for 180 days. A tornado cut their classes short by two weeks. So, the government revoked their diplomas. They have to return to high school to finish their two weeks, take their final exams, and graduate.
Amelia hears the news as she packs her things. Her husband, Ted, asked for a divorce. Now, she fears returning to high school as an unaccomplished loser. Tedi, a married father, owns a bar. To the world, he looks successful, but he doesn’t feel like he has achieved what he desired. Curtis dreams of Amelia from theater class. However, he has horrible flashbacks that scare his coworkers. Without a diploma, his boss fires him. Sunny was the school’s wild child. Today, much hasn’t changed, including his burning passion for this ex-girlfriend, Katie. Newscaster Katie reports on the bill and melts down on camera when she realizes it’s her graduation class. The class of 2008 is returning, but can they change? Will they learn to change? They have two weeks to find out. And if they don’t graduate, they will have to repeat the 12th grade.
This parody comedy has hidden jokes in the background. So let your eyes wander the screen as the main characters speak. It’s obvious that the actors ad-libbed some of their dialogue because the jokes are cute or mildly shocking. But nothing will make you laugh out loud or clutch your pearls. This low-budget comedy has the classic high school characters: nerds, stoners, jocks, and the popular crowd. The title cards give you a breakdown of the main characters, but the ensemble cast plays a larger role. If you are expecting the Scary Movie version of The Breakfast Club, then don’t watch this film (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). If you need a mindless, cheap laugh that requires little to no attention, then this is the perfect movie for you.
