Love, Again – Review

Love, Again – Lifetime – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Caroline and Henry celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary with family and friends. They praise their children, Rachel and Adam, for being their foundation. Soon, they will celebrate with a long-awaited trip to Italy. Caroline prepares to go volunteer at their Fairview Hospital gift shop when Henry asks for the alarm code again. Caroline laughs because it’s been the same for years. Caroline goes to the gift shop, and Doctor Leo enters. He sees that she’s looking at an Italian restaurant guide. He gives an abrupt, yet honest, opinion before leaving. Caroline’s boss, Brenda, tells Caroline that Leo changed after his wife died of ALS. He stuck with her to the end, but it took a toll on him. Caroline’s heart breaks for him.

Caroline comes home and finds Henry swimming in a freezing pool in his underwear. She finds a lit cigar in his office and a stack of unpaid bills. She fears Henry suffered from an undiagnosed stroke and begs him to go to the hospital. Henry’s doctor tests him but can’t find signs of a stroke. After more incidents, Henry gets more tests. They reveal that he has early-onset Alzheimer’s. Sadly, there’s no cure. There are treatments to slow down the progression, but the end result will be the same. Henry and Caroline return home and prepare for a new normal. Henry admits that he knew something was wrong before, but he ignored the signs. Caroline will stay by his side and resist her much-needed support system. However, Caroline connects deeply with one member of her support system. Caroline struggles with being a good wife to a husband she’s already lost, while fighting exhaustion, depression, and expectations.

This film shows an in-depth look at what caregivers go through. They struggle to care for themselves while losing their loved ones to an unstoppable disease. The movie opens with Caroline and Henry’s loving and respectful relationship. Viewers see that he is genuinely a good man. So, Caroline can see his behavior is out of character. And you see their connection to their children and friends. So, Caroline has a thriving community to lean on. Luckily, they never take no for an answer and encourage her to put herself first. The makeup department did a wonderful job of allowing the leads to look exhausted and ill. They didn’t portray a glossy Hollywood image of this disease, but the harsh truth. This movie is a tear-jerker that ends beautifully.

The Secrets of the Matriarch – Review

The Secrets of the Matriarch – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Danielle received her license to practice law in the mail, but that’s not her most pressing concern. She’s decided to meet her maternal grandmother, Claire, for the first time. Danielle’s mother, Charlotte, gave her up for adoption shortly before her death. Charlotte came from a wealthy, well-known family. So Danielle questions why they put her up for adoption. Danielle approaches Claire’s home, rings the bell, and introduces herself. Claire welcomes her in with open arms and tells her assistant, Ingrid, to prepare a room for Danielle. Claire promises to talk after her meeting.

Danielle watches from atop the staircase as the women file into the living room. Danielle overhears snide comments made by Claire’s cousin, Louise. Louise believes Claire is too old to run the Mardi Gras Krewes. She thinks she should run the group because she is a blood descendant, while Claire married into the illustrious family. Danielle interrupts the meeting with a sneeze and introduces herself to everyone. Louise is agast because Danielle resembles Charlotte and is a direct descendant. She feigns a smile and greets Danielle. After the meeting, Claire can’t wait to introduce Danielle to her family’s traditions and history. However, Ingrid pulls Claire aside because Claire didn’t warn Danielle. Someone murdered Charlotte, and accidents befall members of their family. Danielle’s life is at risk. Will she die before she makes it to the top?

This movie is about drama and gossip. The script gives you the culprit but not the motive, and it’s juicier than you can imagine. This plot feels like a modern-day Bridgerton with its balls, social etiquette, and family squabbles. The thespians ooze with fashion, pedigrees, and southern charm. Each backhanded compliment and underhanded power grab will make you chuckle. The antagonist is wickedly fun and crazy. They will jump off the screen. The delivery of the final secret will remind you of Cruel Intentions (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). This movie is a fun time that doesn’t take itself seriously, like Mardi Gras.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

It’s just a piece of paper – Danielle

You’re my favorite liar – Claire

You have your mother’s eyes – Louise

But why put her at risk – Ingrid

The Dating App Nightmare – Review

The Dating App Nightmare – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

It’s been two years since her father died, and Sarah worries about how her mother, Kate, will fare after she leaves for college in the fall. So, she convinces her mother to join a dating app with her and disguises it as mother-daughter bonding. Sarah helps her mother sign up for the app and create a profile. Sarah informs Kate not to use the same password for each site. Instead, she should write down her complex passwords in a notebook as she does. Afterward, Sarah messages her matches and connects with Mark. They plan to have coffee that night.

Sarah arrives early and converses with the owner, Rena. Then, Colin approaches the table, looking for another woman. Rena scares him off when he lingers too long. Moments later, Mark arrives, and they have a lovely evening. As he walks Sarah to her car, Sarah’s friend, Justin, walks up screaming. Earlier, Sarah told him she couldn’t hang out because she planned to spend time with her mother. Seeing her on a date with an attractive man sends Justin over the edge. Mark exits abruptly, leaving Sarah with Justin. She demands that Justin leave and walks to her car. Hours later, Kate realizes Sarah isn’t home and texts her. However, Sarah never answers. Kate calls the police.

Detectives Lynch and Macready arrive at Kate’s home. They assume Sarah left for space and dismiss Kate’s concerns. Kate won’t let them ignore her pleas. She finds Sarah’s best friend, Amber, at school and asks for help. When Kate gets texts from Sarah, Amber’s fear grows. She knows those messages aren’t from Sarah based on sentence structure and slang. Kate knows someone has her daughter. Can she make the police believe her and figure out who did it?

This film gives Lifetimers everything they expect, and that’s its downfall. It’s too predictable. Experienced watchers can pinpoint the culprit, the red herrings, and the motive as they slowly unveil themselves. And the blue tint on the daytime scenes is distracting. This fake glummy day doesn’t add to the script or the emotions. The film’s guiding light is the acting. They convey the proper emotion throughout the script, and one scene will break your heart. Save this film for a rainy day, but don’t take up space on your DVR.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

I am very out of practice – Kate

The good kind, I hope – Sarah

Is that a crime? Watching? – Justin

I’ll help you – Rena

Sarah gave me the address – Mark

Somebody’s Watching Me – Review

Somebody’s Watching Me – Lifetime – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Bride-to-be Angela has fun with her bridesmaids during her bachelorette trip. After the other women go to bed, Angela’s friend, Lori, pulls Angela aside. Lori is upset with Angela’s behavior in the club. She almost went home with a stranger. If Angela’s fiancé, James, learned of her betrayal, it could derail their marriage before it starts. Lori knows Angela doubted the relationship, but now Angela’s sure she wants to marry James.

Months later, Lori hasn’t spoken to Angela since she and James called off the wedding. Lori checks her mail and finds a manila envelope containing a flash drive. She puts the flash drive in her computer and watches a video of herself inside the rental property during the bachelorette party. A masked man appears on the screen, and fear grips Lori. Lori contacts the rental company, but the listing is gone. She reaches out to the police, and they take it seriously. However, there isn’t much they can do because the rental company will tie them up in red tape. Lori continues with her life until she gets another flash drive. This one makes her sick. The stalker is close to home. Can Lori unmask the creep before they take her life?

This film offers intrigue with the usual suspects. While the premise is strong, the storyline is unengaging. Your mind will wander after the major conflict arises. Also, the editing is too dark, and the text is too small. The editor should increase the text size or have the lead read it in an internal monologue. The mystery doesn’t provide enough red herrings to divert your attention to another suspect. You will watch to prove your initial hunch was correct. And it will be. However, you may not unpack the motive. It’s the most intriguing moment in this movie.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

I’ve missed you – Lori

I’m sorry for being aloof – Angela

It’s an apology – James

Kentucky Roses – Review

Kentucky Roses – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Sadie completes her work at the greenhouse before traveling to her second job. Her mother, Anna, scoffs because their family has run the greenhouse for generations. Sadie explains that she wants to build a legacy for herself outside of the greenhouse. She works for Delilah, a local florist with high-end clientele. Anna concedes before asking Sadie to check on the winner’s circle. A high-powered storm did damage and wreaked havoc on the circle’s flowers. Sadie agrees.

Frank investigates the damaged spires. With 2 weeks before the Kentucky Derby, he needs a skilled contractor to fix the damage in time. So, he calls his son, Ash, in Cincinnati. Ash owns a contracting company but doesn’t use his father’s last name. He wants to step out of Frank’s shadow and build something without nepotism. Franks asks Ash to return to Kentucky and help rebuild the spires. After some coaxing from his mother, Lily, Ash agrees.

Ash drives to the Derby to inspect the damage. He sees Sadie at the winner’s circle and questions why she’s there. She tells him that she is there to check on the flowers. Then, he explains that he’s there for the roof repairs but doesn’t mention that his family runs the Derby. They feel the spark but part ways without exchanging their names. They don’t know it yet, but their spark started generations ago with their ancestors, Charlie and Gloria. However, rumors about their ancestors could drive a wedge in their budding romance. Will their love story end before it can begin?

This story centers on the illustrious Kentucky Derby. And you don’t have to be a fan of the sport to enjoy the film. However, the Derby’s history is on full display during the entire film. The opening begins in 1932, with high-society Charlie falling for the hardworking Gloria. However, you don’t know how their love fell apart until their descendants, Ash and Sadie, meet. The writer carefully wove each family’s version of the truth into the storyline. It allows the audience to understand that there are three sides to every story. The script doesn’t rely heavily on humor. Just the leads’ willingness to forgive and love. The clothing department outshone the script and the cast with fancy hats, clothes, and shoes. It elevates the story to coincide with the tournament. This film is a great way to jump-start the 2026 May for Moms season.
