The Dancing Detective: A Deadly Tango – Review
The Dancing Detective: A Deadly Tango – HMM – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Captain Kelly calls Detective Constance Bailey into his office. He congratulates her for solving a case with extreme tenacity. However, Bailey doesn’t work well with others. In the past three years, Bailey has had three partners. He must know she can collaborate before he gives her a high-profile case. The senator’s brother, Mark Aston, died of a suspected heart attack. However, his family believes foul play was involved because Mark didn’t have heart problems. Since Mark died in Malta, Bailey will have to go overseas and work with Interpol to investigate. Bailey promises to collaborate with her new partner.
Bailey meets her Interpol liaison, Sgt. Ana. Ana tells Bailey that Bailey has a small window of opportunity to investigate. Mark ran a dancing, team-building competition for his company. Higher-ups would fly to exotic locations and dance. However, the competition is in a few days, and everyone will fly home. If someone killed Mark, the culprit will be out of reach soon. Bailey asks about Mark’s toxicology report, but Ana says it won’t be ready by the competition. Ana tells Bailey that she will go undercover as an employee and dancer in the competition. Bailey admits she doesn’t know how to dance. But Ana has that covered. She found a partner for Bailey named Sebastian. He is a dance instructor and pseudo-celebrity. Their undercover names are Steward and Sally. Bailey says she will work with Sebastian to learn how to dance, but he needs to stay out of the investigation. Sebastian meets Bailey, makes her put her hair down, and teaches her to Foxtrot.
Ana takes Bailey and Sebastian to the Iniala Hotel because the competitors, also suspects, are staying there. They meet with the competitors during a meet-and-greet lunch. The event’s liaison, Barbara, introduces Sebastian and Bailey as Steward and Sally. Mary, Mark’s widow, greets them with a warm smile and zero sadness for Mark’s death. Mary says Mark would continue the competition no matter what. Mark was a known workaholic who drove others to work as hard as he did. Mary introduces them to Jennifer and Tom. Tom is the CFO, and Jennifer is the head of marketing. They are partners for the competition. Kevin, the event’s director, describes the group as one big happy family. When Sebastian and Bailey leave, he suspects Mary because he believes Mary is having an affair with Kevin. Bailey thinks it’s too soon to jump to conclusions. However, Bailey wants to talk to Judy, the maid who found Mark’s body, before they question Mark’s employees. Sebastian wants to divide, conquer and help. When Bailey tries to blow him off, he says they must collaborate. She remembers Captain Kelly’s words and decides to let Sebastian help, but only after they dance. Will they prove someone murdered Mark and find the culprit before the end of the competition?
The Dancing Detective has a twist for other HMM mysteries. Bailey isn’t a woman with another job who loves enigmas. She is a detective who prefers to work alone. Sebastian is the hanger-on who wants to play cop. However, his dance skills give him the ability to read body language. He uses them to spot details about suspects that Bailey misses. Unlike other shows, the detective solves the crime. In other movies, the other person solves the crime and puts their life in danger before the officer arrives. This time Bailey does it all with Sebastian in step. Sebastian leads on the dancefloor, but Bailey holds the top spot in the investigation. It will be interesting to see how these two will become partners again if this becomes a series. Sleuthers, prepare to watch this film two or three times to keep up.

You’ll Never Leave Me – Review
You’ll Never Leave Me – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

April takes a deep breath and gathers the strength to break up with Patrick. She likes him, but he lied to her. He told her he got a separation from his wife, Susan. But Richard is married and living with her. April tells Patrick if he gets a divorce, she will consider dating him again. Patrick drives April home and accepts April’s conditions. During the ride, they get into an accident. April suffers a broken arm, but Patrick is in a coma. April’s mother, Stella, tries to talk to April, but April has a panic attack after dreaming about her father leaving before his death.
After healing, the doctors tell April she can go home. April walks to Patrick’s room to speak to Susan. April tries to apologize, but Susan won’t hear it. She blames April for the accident and the affair. April walks away without closure. April wants to return to work, but her panic attacks are too severe. So she chooses to work from home while talking to her therapist, Kathy. With help, April believes this is the start of a new life. But Susan has other plans. She wants April to pay for what happened to Patrick. Susan hires her brother-in-law, Jimmy, to get close to April and kill her. Then, she will never lose Patrick to April again. What will Susan do when her Trojan Horse becomes another lovesick puppy under April’s spell?
Let’s get this out of the way. April is not a season! With that said, this movie is a slow burn with a low body count. And everyone makes blaring mistakes in the film. Susan pays Jimmy before he kills April, while Jimmy follows Susan’s ridiculous request. Also, April goes against her best judgment and trusts Jimmy too soon after a tragedy. Then, the writers added a dream that may or may not have been real. But never explain if it was later. This film moves too slowly to keep your interest and doesn’t have enough kills to be exciting.
I give it 2 out of 5 stars
Well, I don’t think we’re strangers anymore – Jimmy
It’s a little scary having a new friend through all of this – April
Live and learn, right – Patrick
I am not giving up on you, Patrick – Susan

The Love Club: Tara’s Tune – Review
The Love Club: Tara’s Tune – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Tara takes a selfie with her date, sends it to her mom, excuses him for the evening, and sits on a car’s hood. She hears Nicole talking to herself and begins a conversation. She follows Nicole to Lauren and Peter’s New Year’s party. Lauren stumbles out the front door drunk, and Nicole and Tara help Lauren to the patio seat near Sydney. They discuss their failed love lives, and her friends tell Tara to delete her latest app. Nicole thinks it’s the first step to Tara’s next dead-end relationship. The four lovelorn ladies name themselves the Love Club.
Today, Tara finishes her set and leaves the stage. Sam asks Tara to marry him after taking a picture with him and sending it to her mom, Nadine. Tara tells Sam she doesn’t want a commitment and gets on stage to make a proclamation. Tara wants to commit to her career and herself. And she seals the deal with a ring pop (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). This year will be the Year of Tara. Tara returns home with an idea and calls the Love Club. Later, Noah walks into the bar and asks for an audition. He needs money until he gets his big break. Tara listens to Noah and hires him on the spot.
Sydney, Nicole, and Lauren descend onto Tara’s home. They worry about Tara because she seems different. Then they find her declaration online, and it’s viral. Tara is happy about the video and asks the Love Club to plan her commitment party for herself. The soiree doesn’t put the Love Club at ease, but they agree to do it for Tara. As Tara and Noah create music together, the women see their connection but continue planning. Nicole decides to call Nadine about the wedding, and Nadine can’t contain her surprise. Nadine assumed that Tara got engaged and never told her. Tara tells Nicole to hang up the phone and starts to freak out. For years, Tara took selfies to convenience Nadine she was in a relationship. However, Tara avoided commitment because her father abandoned Nadine when Tara was a child. Tara ignores Nadine until Nadine comes to town wanting to meet Tara’s fiancé. Now, Tara needs a fiancé to convince her mother that the wedding is real. Later, she will give Nadine a fake breakup story.
Tara runs to Noah and begs Noah to be her fake betrothed. Noah refuses because he takes marriage seriously. Noah goes to his van and sees a tow truck taking it away. He runs to Tara’s side as she talks to Nadine and introduces himself as her fiancé. When Nadine leaves, Noah says that his mind changed. He needs money and a place to stay because they towed his van, also his home, for unpaid parking tickets. Tara allows him to stay in the bar because the Love Club is in her home. Noah breathes a sigh of relief. However, the Love Club notices Noah and Tara’s fake relationship looks real. The women will work together to help Tara see that she doesn’t have to fear commitment and that Noah is the man for her.
This fourth Love Club installment starts differently than the others. Tara never desired love like her friends. Her ‘happily ever after’ was a record deal, not a husband. However, she felt the world wanted something more from her. So her declaration was her first step toward independence from everyone but her mother. Tara’s relationship with Noah is second. She must repair her relationship with Nadine to move forward. Seeing them sit and talk things through will put viewers at ease. Tara can move forward with Noah afterward. This movie is a solid conclusion for these women, but it doesn’t feel like the end.

Nicole decides to use something that Peter nor Lauren can resist: Stephanie. But will Nicole’s plan work when Lauren meets a sexy artist named Carlos?

Lucky Hearts – Review
Lucky Hearts – UPtv – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Rosieanne sells Lucky Clover cosmetics, an all-natural, locally-sourced makeup brand. While she has local and loyal customers, she hands out freebies often. She needs help with money, manufacturing, and the water bill. So, she scheduled a meeting with Verner & Co. to invest in her business. Before her meeting, Rosieanne makes a stop at Belle’s Shopping Mall. She dreams of her makeup having a dedicated spot in the store. She sees the makeup artist eyeing a young man, and she gives her blush and lipstick for confidence. A man approaches the artist to purchase an item, but Rosieanne intervenes to give that artist time to flirt, and Rosieanne pretends to be a salesperson. The man, Simon, wants to buy something for his mother. Rosieanne asks questions to discern the perfect item, but Simon doesn’t have answers. So he grabs a bottle of perfume. Rosieanne offers to make a unique blend of makeup but spills the bright pink contents on Simon’s shirt. Fuming, Simon leaves.
Rosieanne calls her father, Paddy, for encouragement before meeting with investors. Verner loves the idea and wants to invest. However, Rosieanne has to prove herself by convincing Ms. Harrington, owner of Belle’s Shopping Mall, to carry Lucky Clover. Also, Rosieanne has to work with Verner’s best analyst, Simon. Rosieanne nervously smiles at the man covered in pink makeup. Simon pulls Verner aside because he doesn’t want to work with Rosieanne. But Verner promises to make Simon partner if Rosieanne accepts their contract. Simon shakes Verner’s hand and agrees to the collaboration.
Simon enters Rosieanne’s workshop and becomes dismayed by her atrocious bookkeeping skills and PWYC (pay what you can) attitude. He tells Rosieanne that she can’t run a business on feelings. She must focus on making a profit. Rosieanne explains that money isn’t her focus. It’s her customers and making them feel valued, loved, and honored. Simon admits that he needs this deal to become a partner. Rosieanne agrees to sign if he helps her create an astounding campaign for Ms. Harrington. Simon discovers that brands are more than profits; they are people. Rosieanne learns that bookkeeping can be fun. But will their blooming love last when Simon’s need to succeed steamrolls Rosieanne’s business?
Rosieanne’s brand sounds and looks spectacular, but her careless attitude about business needs some fine-tuning. If you can’t pay your water bill, it’s time to raise prices and stop giving away products. Don’t forget to pay attention to the subplot while Rosieanne and Simon fall in love. Rosieanne’s best friend, Sarah, has to find her voice. Sarah works for her family’s printing company but has a marketing passion. She makes constant mistakes. Her aunt tells Sarah to focus on her job instead of daydreaming about makeup. Finding what she wants in life is the beginning for Sarah. This movie is a gentle lesson about reading your contracts before signing.

The Love Club: Sydney’s Journey – Review
The Love Club: Sydney’s Journey – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Sydney walks with Byron to Lauren and Peter’s New Year’s Party. He gives her a pink mug and drops a bomb by breaking up for a 4th time. Sydney opens the container, pours wine inside, and starts to drink. Then she meets Lauren, Nicole, and Tara on the front porch. They convince Sydney not to give Byron another chance. All four are having love troubles and dub themselves the Love Club.
Ten years later, Sydney is a successful blogger and reviews local restaurants and food trucks. She stops by a food truck for lunch and hears someone call her name in the distance. It’s Byron. He is in town for a medical conference and running a half-marathon. He asks Sydney if she will be there because Sydney ran track competitively in college. Sydney lies and says yes. She returns home, signs up for the marathon, and calls the Love Club for help. Sydney admits to her friends that she is not in shape for the event.
Tara, Nicole, and Lauren worry about Sydney physically and emotionally. So they decide to kill two birds with one stone. They hire a handsome trainer, Mike, to help Sydney prepare for the marathon. And they hope the distraction will keep her mind off Byron. Sydney can’t keep her eyes off Mike, and they plan to train in the morning after Mike assesses her. Mike meets his friend Theo outside. Theo confesses that his restaurant, The Aberdeen, is losing money. And he has no idea how to fix it. Mike doesn’t know how to help but offers emotional support to his friend. Theo pranks Mike, and Mike throws his back out.
Sydney gets a knock at the door and expects Mike. Instead, she sees Theo. He explains that Mike is hurt. But Mike thought they should train together. They go on a run, and Theo stops at a food truck. She mentions his restaurant doesn’t have sexy food and blends into the crowd without knowing Theo owns it. Sydney says she can cook better. Theo reveals himself as the owner and accepts her challenge. Soon, Sydney and Theo spend every day cooking, eating, and running. Sydney is still unsure of her feelings for Byron because he hints about rekindling their romance. Nevertheless, the Love Club has spoken! They think Theo is the man for Sydney and will do anything to ensure Sydney sees it too.
In this second installment, Sydney is a woman looking at life through the rearview mirror. She hopes for a relationship with Byron and does everything to be perfect for him. However, viewers witness that Byron isn’t good enough for her. He is indecisive, jealous, and rude towards all the women in his life. You will yell for Sydney to choose Theo. And the food will make your mouth water. Yes, this film is a love story, but it centers on Sydney’s growth. She discovers the woman she should become, and you will welcome it.
