The Man with My Husband’s Face – Review

The Man with My Husband’s Face – Lifetime – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Katrina contemplated divorcing her husband, Heath and talked to her lawyer, Wally. Wally prepared the documents for Katrina to scrutinize and give to Heath later. Katrina puts them in a drawer and continues working on her book during downtime. Katrina scripts a Chatbot for a video conferencing tool. Her company is small, but it grows steadily. At first, Heath is short-tempered and argumentative until he finds the divorce paperwork. Heath decides to put some effort into his marriage and try kayaking with Katrina.

Katrina and Heath rent their kayaks, but he becomes increasingly impatient. Katrina gets her equipment but can’t find Heath. She asks the attendant, who tells her that Heath left without her. Upset, Katrina paddles out on the water alone. She returns to the dock and waits for Heath, but he never appears. After a few hours, Katrina calls the police. At first, Detective Brand isn’t bothered by Heath’s disappearance and chalks it up to marriage woes. Then he gets a call on his phone that someone spotted Heath’s kayaking equipment upstream. They find the items but not Heath. Katrina panics.

For days, Katrina spots a man that looks like Heath, but Detective Brand thinks Katrina is delusional and needs to accept that Heath is dead. Also, Wally attempts to meet with Katrina to discuss her power of attorney loophole, but she is too focused on Heath’s disappearance to talk. Then, Heath walks into a hospital with amnesia and dehydration. Katrina is happy to have Heath back, and his attitude change makes her throw away the divorce papers. Katrina continues living happily ever after until they make love. Something is different about Heath, and she can feel it. But can she prove it?

This film will have you on the fence because its three storylines in one. One storyline covers a woman trying to convenience the police that her spouse is still alive. The next storyline is about a woman discovering her spouse’s true identity. And the final one is a woman in the fight for her life. Each plot provides another twist for the viewer to uncover. Now, the last fight scene is laughable. But it reveals Heath’s motive and underhanded dealings throughout the film. Heath’s plan is wild, intricate, and cunning. But his final monologue saves the movie.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

I didn’t agree to that, did I? – Katrina

Just remind me not to look down – Heath

Norman is planning a surprise party for his mom, Carrie, and hired Hannah to make Carrie’s favorite dessert: carrot cake. Hannah and her mom, Delores, meet Norman at Eugene’s restaurant to get the logistics. Eugene is happy to host the party because he and Norman are dear friends. After cementing the arrangements, Norman and Hannah leave and see protesters outside the Steiners Building. The current owners sold the building, but only outside contractors got the bids for work. The protesters want the building declared a historical landmark and renovated, not torn down. Norman’s ‘girlfriend,’ Diana, tells the group she got the injunction to stop construction. She hopes they will keep the town’s oldest building.

Delores stands before Carrie’s friends at Carrie’s party and makes an announcement. The birthday woman won’t be there. She decided to go on a last-minute birthday trip. Norman laughs it off and tells everyone to enjoy the festivities. After the party, Norman and Hannah leave the party. They walk past the Steiner Building and hear an explosion inside. They walk inside to survey the scene, and Hannah sees something moving in the distance. Hannah convinces Norman to follow the light, and they find a body in an abandoned elevator shaft. Hannah contacts Detective Mike to take over the scene, but he allows Hannah to work the case with him. They comb through the area and uncover a wallet, keys, a brooch, and other items. The wallet has Jerry McDowell’s ID inside. Jerry has a long rap sheet with the local police department. He was a thief. The police suspected he robbed a jewelry store in 1995 with his partner, Travis. They never found Jerry, and now they know why. Jerry is not an innocent person, but he is a victim. Uncovering his killer will unearth money, pain, and love.

Based on Carrot Cake Murder by Joanne Fluke, this installment of the Hannah Swensen series starts with a scamming victim (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). An imperfect person offers lots of suspects. His ex-wife, Julianna, his old friend, Eugene, and his ex-partner, Travis. Each suspect has a reason to kill Jerry and shaky alibies. However, the murder isn’t the only storyline to keep viewers watching. For the first time, the relationship between Hannah and Mike shows signs of decay. Mike attempts to balance his work obligations with Hannah’s sleuthing skills without upsetting the chief or Hannah, but he fails. Hannah believes they are a team when Mike allows her to work the case with him, but their newfound bond ends with betrayal. This film’s added drama pulls in viewers and makes us wonder if the power couple can last. You will need your Scandinavian Almond CakeDeconstructed Rocky Road Bars, and wine for this emotional movie.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars

My Best Friend The Baby Snatcher – Review

My Best Friend The Baby Snatcher – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Penelope closes on her first home and enjoys the moment with her best friend, Eve. Penelope’s life hit a rough patch. Now, she sees the light at the end of the tunnel. Penelope’s husband, Rich, is achieving success in his company as they have their dream home and a baby on the way. Penelope believed she was infertile, but thanks to egg donation, she and Rich conceived. Penelope won’t be alone because Eve is pregnant too. These best friends are grateful to share this moment.

Eve goes home to cook dinner, greet her husband, Tom, and care for her plants. After dinner, Eve gets in the shower to relax. She experiences horrible pains and starts to bleed. Hours later, Tom calls Rich with devastating news. Eve lost the baby.

Rich and Penelope continue to prepare their home for the baby and host baby-themed parties while worrying about Eve. However, Eve fell into a depression. Tom keeps them updated on Eve’s condition and tries to help her. Eve kills her plant babies and reminisces about the day she got pregnant. Eve was taking hormones to donate her eggs to Penelope. But she got pregnant by Tom before the doctor could extract her eggs. Now, Eve believes Penelope stole her baby, husband, and life. She will take them all back. First, Eve has to get rid of Tom. Next, she has to kidnap Penelope until the baby is born. Then, she can live happily ever after with Rich and the baby in their home. It sounds wild enough to work.

‘What the what’ is the only way to describe this movie. Eve’s actions seem strange, but the script looks into her background when Eve converses with her estranged mother. She tends to go off the deep end and lash out. Also, Eve is a toxic friend. She finds small ways to make sly comments about Penelope to tear her down. And she sets Penelope up to fail any chance she can. It’s inevitable when Eve blames Penelope for losing everything she considers ‘better than Penelope’s.’ Her pathetic attempt to be the best becomes deadly. So take notes so you can avoid these types of ‘friends.’

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

You are living the dream – Eve

You know I’m a sucker for dramatic silhouettes – Rich

I love you too – Penelope

No more lies. No more games. I want the truth – Tom

When Love Blooms – Review

When Love Blooms – UPtv – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Ann is a risk analyst who agonizes over the most minor decisions. She worries about making the wrong choice and substitutes her happiness for security. Ann’s boss calls Ann into his office. There is a promotion available. Ann assumes he is offering it to her, but he wants her to create a list of the top 5 candidates. Ann stays mum and leaves his office. She tells her friend, Samantha. Samantha tells Ann to speak up for herself and to demand to be on the list. Ann visibly shrinks in her chair and rejects the advice.

Later, Ann gets a phone call from her father, Tom. Tom hurt his wrist and needs help around the house. Ann drives to her hometown and stops to get food. She stands in line and mulls over what to order. A man, Aaron, tries to offer advice, but Ann snaps at him. She continually questions her choices before settling on something she doesn’t want. Ann leaves the diner and walks to a flower shop to get Tom a get-well bouquet. Aaron owns the shop. Aaron asks Ann what flowers she wants in the arrangement. After watching several agonizing minutes of Ann second-guessing herself, Aaron takes the reins and makes the gift.

Tom loves Ann’s flowers and adds them to his greenhouse. Ann’s mother loved plants but passed away before it became her hobby. So, Tom started to keep her memory alive. Now, it is his passion, and he competes in local competitions. Aaron enters the greenhouse as Tom explains flower growing and arranging. Tom reveals his ulterior motive. Tom and Aaron were going to compete in the Botanic Cup. However, Tom’s wrist won’t heal by then. Aaron thinks dropping out is the best option. But Tom scanned the bylaws and discovered a loophole. If a competitor is indisposed, they can get an immediate family member to take their place. Ann and Aaron immediately say no. But Tom asks Ann to do it for her mom, and she relents. Now, a concise anthophilous has to work with an indecisive klutz. As Ann falls for Aaron, can she accept the queen of his life?

Yes, this movie is predictable and cute, but Ann’s indecisiveness over every aspect of her life will drive some viewers mad. She can’t decide what cake she wants and orders something she doesn’t like. She can’t pick a flower for her father or what to eat for lunch. She has decidophobia, and it cripples her life at work and home. It becomes too much to handle and makes the movie difficult to watch. The writer added some humor and plant trivia to lighten the mood. This movie is not for you if you have a type A personality. Otherwise, it’s a light-hearted way to kill two hours.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

It’s called a comfort zone because it’s comfortable – Ann

There’s literally no wrong choice there – Aaron

Dream Moms – Review

Dream Moms – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Danielle is a stay-at-home mom who volunteers and sings in the church choir. Her husband, Mark, may become a partner at his law firm, and their daughter, Sandra, has an audition for a ballet company. She plans to attend the audition and cook a top-notch meal to impress Mark’s boss. Sandra worries because her instructor, Boris, doesn’t believe she has passion. Boris wants Sandra to stand out but synchronized. Sandra toys with the idea of learning from her uncle, hip-hop choreographer RJ, but Danielle gives her a hard no. She wants Sandra to blend with the other dancer and put her best foot forward. Danielle tells Sandra to trust her because Danielle performed professionally. While she sings in the choir, Danielle wishes she could sing for an audience again.

Claire is a single-working-mom of two boys – Paul Jr. and Philip. She dreamed of becoming a dancer but left it behind when Paul Sr. left her and became famous ten years ago. Claire waited until the last minute to submit Paul’s scholarship application and didn’t enter it in time. Now, she must consider another way to pay for his education. She can depend on her neighbor, Sam, to help when she falls behind in household duties. Claire leaves work to meet with a client but goes to the wrong floor. She walks into RJ’s studio. He tells her to go back to the concierge or join the group. She joins the team.

RJ teaches as his niece, Sandra, enters the class. He allows Sandra to dance but privately texts Danielle. Danielle stalks into the studio, looking for Sandra, but bumps into Claire’s freestyle dancing. She takes Danielle’s bump as a challenge and begins to serve. Danielle begs RJ to rescue her and scolds Sandra. She reminds Sandra that Boris doesn’t want hip-hop; he wants grace. Danielle allows Sandra to finish the class. Afterward, RJ approaches Danielle and Claire with a proposition. He noticed Claire’s abilities earlier and knows Danielle sings. He wants them to try out for a competition show called Take Two. It gives aspiring hopefuls a second chance to make a name for themselves. He suggests they split the prize money, $100,000, in three ways. He can get more exposure for his struggling studio, Claire can use the money for Paul, and Danielle can find her audience.

These mothers are different, but they have the same struggle: putting themselves first. Claire balances family and work but never feels like she does enough. Danielle cheers for Mark and Sandra but doesn’t have anyone to sacrifice for her needs. Instead of comparing their lives, Claire and Sandra compliment each other and recognize that neither has it easy. They want nothing more than to be good mothers. Their families slip when they start doing things to make themselves happy. And they learn a harsh truth about reality TV. Without ruining the ending, it is an unexpected surprise. This movie will find a warm place in the hearts of moms everywhere, but it won’t be your favorite.
