Vanellope von Schweetz and Wreck-it Ralph have been best friends for the past 6 years. Vanellope is getting bored with her game because she has been on every track and every bonus level. Nothing ever changes. In order to help, during a Sugar Rush race, Ralph uses his skills to make her a new track. However, when Vanellope takes control while the user is playing, the user is confused and pulls off the steering wheel. When Mr. Litwak tries to fix it, he cracks it in half. The makers of the game have gone out of business but the kids find a steering wheel on eBay. When Mr. Litwak finds out the steering wheel is $200, he decides it’s not worth it because the wheel cost more than the game makes in a year. So he unplugs Sugar Rush causing all the characters to run towards the surge protector to save themselves. Earlier that week, Ralph and Vanellope saw something new being plugged into the surge protector. It’s WiFi. The guard Surge told the pair it was dangerous and not to go to it. But Ralph knows he needs to go to the internet to order the part on eBay. So he and Vanellope go inside the internet and discover a world they could have never have imagined.
There is so much pop culture to take in with this movie. You have to watch it twice. It makes references to pop-up ads, browsers, search bars, memes, and trending videos. Ralph will go from a game of nostalgia to a household sensation based on likes. But with all the good entities of the internet, this movie does discuss the dark side. With viruses, the dark web, and hurtful comments, you must remember all the good the internet can do. With all the imagery, the true story is about friendship. As Vanellope wants to change and grow, Ralph is happy doing the same thing. So when Vanellope wants to stay in the internet Slaughter Race, because it is ever-changing, Ralph feels like he will lose his best friend forever. And that insecurity will break the internet and friendships. While the storyline was more in-depth and the graphics were better, laughs were sacrificed. This movie is not funnier than its predecessor but it does have a better storyline that will resonate with kids, tweens, and teens. Keep your eyes open for Stan Lee and your ears open for great parenting advice. See this one in 3D and stay past the end credits to see a Frozen 2 trailer that will leave you rollin’.
