Joe is in a bank discussing is looming finances with a bank supervisor when the bank is robbed. While sitting with the police given details, Joe thinks he and his to friends Willie and Albert can do the same. Joe’s home is going into foreclosure and that will put him, his daughter, and his granddaughter on the street. Willie is sick and only has a short time to live, he would like to see his family but can’t afford it. And just to make things worst, their pension payments have stopped because the old company is being bought and using the pension to settle its debt. Willie and Joe are ok with the plan, but Albert doesn’t want to do it. But when Albert finds out his bank (also Willie and Joe’s) is helping with the deal for a fee, he is in. The three try to rob a grocery store for practice but are quickly caught and release (because of their old age). They decide they need help to make their plan work. With some connection, they are put in contact with Jesus. Jesus agrees to help but they need to follow simple rules:
- Don’t rob your own bank
- Get a getaway care
- learn to hotwire
- get in shape
- get an alibi
- get supplies
- practice
With their plan intact, they will risk it all to get it all back.
This remake of the 1979 classic, Going In Style, smartly erases age prejudice without outright mentioning it (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). The three actors work well with each other and share the comedic punches evenly. While this mix of Set It Off, Grumpy Old Men, and Oceans Eleven does have a good plot line for current times, it isn’t a new story (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). You have seen these “stand up against the corrupt” stories before. It just has an elder twist. This is worth matinee to kill a couple hours but don’t rush to see it. You saw the funniest parts in the trailer. Also, stay past the first end crawl for 30 fun seconds.
