Buster Moon’s life long dream of running and owning a theater, is going to be repossessed at the end of the month. He is hiding from the bank and his employees when he gets a great idea. He decides to host a singing competition with $1,000 prize. However, the flyers are changed to $100,000 with a loose eyeball and blown out of a window all around town. With a huge cash prize on he table, animals from all around come out to audition. Buster and his assistant, Karen Crawly, narrow down the contestants to:

  • Meena – an extremely shy elephant that doesn’t tryout for the first round, but becomes a stagehand. She is later chosen to sing when other contestants drop out
  • Mike – an aggressive, swindling mouse with a Frank Sinatra voice
  • Johnny – a gorilla who wants to sing but his father wants him to enter the family business … crime
  • Gunther – an dancing pig that is paired with Rosita to make her more exciting
  • Rosita – a homemaker, wife, and mother of 25 who loves to sing but can’t dance
  • Ash – a teen rocker who recently broke up with her cheating boyfriend Lance

With this group, Buster hopes he can save the theater and inspire young performers. But bears, Nana, a police helicopter, and a tidal wave get in his way.

Imagine if the characters of Zootopia were used to cast American Idol with a Producers script and Now That’s What I Call Music soundtrack, and you have Sing (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). Although singing competitions aren’t an original concept, the character interactions and the resolution are great. You will find yourself dancing, singing, and rooting for a favorite singer.  There is at least one character’s back story to whom you can relate. You don’t want anyone to loose because they all need the money or boost of self esteem, but you will have a favorite. This is a fun movie for kids and adults ,alike. Full price is a good deal. And there is nothing after the end crawl.  Come for the movie and stay for the singing.
