Troy was an amazing baseball player, however, at his heyday, the major leagues did not accept African Americans; but when they did, Troy was too old. Now Troy is fighting to drive the garbage truck for which he picks up trash. He had is first son Lyons with a girlfriend, served time in jail, met and married Rose, and had another son named Cory. His eldest son, Lyons is a 34 year old musician who doesn’t want to punch a clock and often ask Troy for money. Cory, 17, is being recruited to play football in North Carolina, works, and goes to school. Troy’s brother, Gabe, is suffering from mental issues since he was shot in WWII. He teaches his boys to punch a clock like him to ensure they can do right by the people who count on them. But is Troy doing right in their eyes?

Fences aren’t just to keep people out, it is sometimes to keep people in. And like that fence, Troy protects his heart to keep people out but fights to keep them around. This movie, which started as a play, is magnificently done. It proves that you don’t need high price sets and special effects to make a good story, just a great script and wonderful actors. You will see how flawed thinking can affect generations, but there is always trumpet blown and a ray of sunshine in the end.  See this one today.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars

Like your riding a Good Year – Troy

Wasn’t no 2 or 3 days. He came back the same night – Rose

I’m guessing you Raynell – Cory

And that’s how that go – Gabe

Fences aren’t just to keep people out, it is sometimes to keep people in – Bono
