The starship Avalon is headed to Homestead II to start a new colony on a new world after much success with Homestead I. The journey will take 120 years with 5000 passengers and 258 crew members in hibernation. 30 years into the trip, James “Jim” Preston wakes up. Afterwards, he realizes he is alone and 90 years early. He attempts to relay a message to the Avalon owners; but learns it will take 19 years to send and 55 years to get a response. Jim tries to make the most out of his time alone but he wants more. A year later, Aurora Lane wakes up. She tries to find a way to go back to sleep but soon settles into her fate. As Aurora and Jim fall in love, they notice the ship is falling apart piece by piece. Within a year, Aurora learns a horrible truth and Gus, the Chief Deck Office, wakes up. Gus knows that if he is awake, something is horribly wrong. After analysis, they learn that the ship will reach critical failure and everyone aboard will die. The 3 must save everyone on board, but will they survive?
Passengers is a good movie to create “what would you do” questions. You understand Jim’s loneliness and moral dilemma; as well as Aurora’s love and pain. For the first 30 minutes Passengers feels like Cast Away in space … except you replace the Wilson for Authur (robotic bartender) (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). But it changes into a love story with the arrival of Aurora. You will find yourself wondering “what else can go wrong” … and then it does. This is a fun movie at full price, but not 3D.
I give it 4 out of 5 stars
Jim, these are not robot questions – Authur
So we’re stranded on a sinking ship – Aurora
I need a minute – Gus
It was – Jim
