Ollie is a curious Pooboo. When he ventures off the island again, his father, Caloo, and grandmother tell him about the story of the Pooboos. The creatures of the island lived in constant fear of the Treewolf. One day, their protector, Dzo, entered with a glowing pod. It allowed them to transform their bodies and talk to each other. Soon, peace spread across the island. Everyone except the Treewolf was happy. The Treewolf attacked the Dzo and touched a pod. The pod changed the Treewolf into a Firewolf. It killed the Dzo, creating a dam. The dam separated the creatures. Caloo warns Ollie that he can’t trust the other creatures, and he can only be safe on the island with his kind.
Ollie refuses to listen and forages for food. He stumbles across a baby Javan. He teaches the Javan how to open a shell for food. The Javan cries out to others, and they eat all the Pooboos food. Today, the Pooboos try to survive off the scraps the Javans leave behind. However, this year is bleak, and Caloo believes they will starve. Ollie leaves their burrow for scraps, and a Javan attacks him. He discovers they hate light being reflected into their eyes. Ollie runs back with shards of glass, blinding the Javans. One returns and pushes Ollie into a deep hole. He sees a glowing pod at the bottom but refuses to touch it. Ollie attempts to escape, but the Javan shoves him, forcing Ollie to touch the pod. It turns him into a Javan. When Ollie returns to the Pooboos, they run. Then, Ollie’s mom, Callie, hears Ollie’s voice from his Javan body. She fears the Javan ate him and attacks. Ollie escapes before falling into a river.
Ollie wakes up with three Javans, Ivy, Lily, and Violet, caring for him. Ivy offers an intriguing story about saving Ollie while they help him hide from a pack of treewolves. But Ollie won’t stay still. He must find another pod to change back. Boogle pops up from the water and tells him about another pod. Ollie runs to it with Ivy chasing after him. They get into a tussle, and Ivy touches it before Ollie can. It turns her into a Pooboo. Boogle tells them about a field of pods in a dangerous location. Ollie and Ivy must work together to find the pods and transform into their old bodies. Easier said than done.
This animated tale is about community and overcoming bias. Ollie and Ivy have a generational fear of the other. Their quest forces them to see the others’ side and listen. This film’s animation department created several intriguing creatures. They blended the animals your children know with nature. So your children’s eyes will marvel at Bearrocks, Treewolves, and MountainElephants. It allows the creatures to act out of character and makes the magic acceptable. The CGI uses incredible lighting techniques to highlight the creatures, environment, and time of day. It brings a new perspective of wonder to this film. And don’t be fooled by the promotional images. These two don’t swap bodies; they transform. It fails at keeping your attention during Ollie and Ivy’s adventure. It’s easy for the audience to become preoccupied and look away from the screen. As a result, Netflix is the perfect place for this picture. It lets you enjoy the quality while pausing and rewinding. This movie is a great family film for a lazy afternoon, but don’t rearrange plans to watch it.
