A woman knocks on the Virgil Hotel’s door, and manager Lily answers. She tells Lily that her name is Isabelle. She applied for the maid position. And today is her first day. After seeing Isabelle’s ID, Lily welcomes Isabelle and introduces her to the guests. She scans her card, triggering multiple locks on the front door. Lily explains that The Virgil is an elite, exclusive hotel with a select few guests. The first floor is for the staff, and the guests expect perfection. Lily leads Isabelle to her room.

Isabelle wakes to Bob by her bedside in a pig mask. He covers her mouth and nose with a chloroform-soaked rag. She knocks the man out, but the chemical takes effect. She lies on the floor as 3 more people enter the room. Sharon, a wealthy businesswoman, grabs her feet. Isabelle jumps from her fake coma and kills all 4. She exits the room, stands in the hallway, and sees Lily standing at the entrance. Lily demands to know who Isabelle really is.

Ten years ago, Asia and her sister, Maria, ran away from their abusive father. When he found them, Asia shot him and ran, leaving Maria behind. The police found Asia, and she served time in prison. However, she never stopped looking for Maria. A private investigator uncovered that Maria’s phone last pinged at The Virgil. Maria contacted Isabelle about the newly-opened maid position. Asia found Isabelle and took her place.

Lily can’t believe her luck, but she won’t let Asia go. Lily also has an unconventional family, and they plan to kill someone tonight. As Lily talks, the four people Asia killed previously enter the hall behind her. They reattach their limbs and attack. Asia escapes with the help of Lily’s husband, Ray. He’s tired of killing and wants to start fresh. Ray explains that they, the guests, and the staff sold their souls to the devil. The Virgil is a death trap meant to lure human sacrifices. Everyone who pledges their allegiance to the devil is immortal, but they must kill to earn it. If she wants to leave, their is only one way out. A fire escape at the top of the building. He begs her to leave now. However, Asia refuses to leave without Maria. Can Asia break free of Virgil’s grip with Maria?

This film is a mix of Kill Bill and Ready or Not (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). It has gory fight scenes, with some quips and devil worship. It may be listed as a horror. However, it’s a gruesome comedy. The director uses traditional Japanese angles and shots to keep your eyes trained on the lead. Your eyes will track her movement as she shoots, stabs, and slices her adversaries. The script took a unique turn because the family sentiment isn’t overly sappy. It establishes the connection and then inserts much-needed humor. The special effects will make you laugh and cringe. When she gravely wounds someone, they don’t become standard zombies. Their body parts continue their work and move to relay their message. This film could become a cult classic with the correct marketing and fervor. However, it’s for people who need a mindless and funny bloodbath.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

Family reunions can be tough – Ray

I can’t understand what you’re saying – Asia

A memento from olden times – Lily
