As first responders race to the scene, Grace lights a cigarette. They see she is bloody and bruised and ask her for details. She only responds with ‘in-laws.’ Grace passes out before they can get any more information. Grace wakes up, handcuffed to a hospital bed. Detective Bassett interrogates her, but she won’t elaborate. Then, Faith enters the room. Grace wonders why her sister showed up, and Faith states she is still Grace’s emergency contact. Bassett leaves the room, and the sisters converse. Grace recaps her last hours with Faith. Faith is sure of one thing: Grace is going to jail.

Chester calls off the war after he gets a phone call alerting him to the Le Domas’ downfall. He instructs his lawyer to gather his children, twins Ursula and Titus. Chester sends a message to the heads of the remaining families. In Shanghai, Wan Chen Xing calls for her lawyers. Brothers Viraj and Madhu celebrate in a London club. Ignacio cheers before standing on a Spanish TV stage. Bill Wilkinson does a bump of drugs before leaving Atlantic City. Ursula and Titus enter Chester’s room, standing at either side of his bed. He informs them that the Le Domas family perished. It will enact a clause in their contract to name a new head of the high chair. He removes his signet ring and tells his children to end his life. They promise to get the high chair and smother him with a pillow.

Detective Bassett takes Grace out of her hospital room and walks her down the hallway while Faith follows. As he states her charges, Bill shoots him in the neck. He doesn’t care what Le Bail wants. Bill will kill Grace now and get the high seat. Before he can stab her, Bill explodes. Le Bail punished Bill for not following the rules. Grace removes her bloody wedding dress and sneakers from the hospital bag in preparation for a fight. Then, Chester’s lawyer throws a smoke grenade in the hallway, rendering Faith and Grace unconscious. The lawyer brings her back to Le Bail’s lodge.

Ursula and Titus stand at the grand entrance while everyone arrives. Xing arrives with her tech-addicted son, Fu. Viraj and Madhu roll up in a smoke-filled van. Madhu brought his wife, Martina, to join the fun. When Ignacio brings his son, Felipe, Ursula enquires about his daughter, Francesca. He assures Ursula that his daughter will arrive soon. Then, Ursula smiles as she spies the lawyer’s helicopter arriving with their guest of honor.

Grace and Faith wake up bound and gagged. The lawyer explains the rules. When Grace survived the Le Domas family, she triggered a clause for the high seat at the council table. A member of each family will hunt for Grace to secure the seat that Chester once occupied. The oldest member of each family will hunt her. If Grace kills them, another family member will take their place. However, their entire bloodline will die if they kill each other, even accidentally. If Grace survives until 6 a.m., she will be the head of the council and control the world. Grace refuses to play. So, the lawyer instructs the maid to kill Faith. Grace concedes, and Titus jabs her and Faith in the neck with a needle. Grace and Faith wake up on a golf course with one mission: Survive. Will they make it to the morning?

This sequel starts where the first ended. It begins with an eye-level shot of Grace, following her in the ambulance while they revive her. Each jolt gives you a glimpse of the first movie. Then, she gives a 2-minute recap of the first film. Newcomers won’t need to see it. Next, the audience glances at the cast of characters. However, you get a full rundown when they arrive at the lodge. It’s a motley crew of characters, each more twisted than the other, providing perfect comedic timing. Unlike the first film, this picture focuses on family bonds. Faith and Grace work through their abandonment issues, while Titus and Ursula crave dominance and approval. These moments add a lull to the script because the audience craves blood and guts. It seems weird to discuss who left whom when devil worshippers are hunting you. Now, this script is as funny as the first and packs the same amount of action. As family members die, you chuckle when the next in line joins the fray. Its plot doesn’t provide jump scares, but mountains of gore. The special effects are over the top, and the fight scenes are outlandish. That’s expected from this franchise. And that’s perfectly fine for fans of the first film. It will be a cult classic, not a ground-breaking horror film.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars
