Roz prepares for the Community Center’s Christmas Jubilee when she gets a call. The government wants to make room for a new commercial complex. So, they are cutting funding from several programs and moved the vote to after Christmas to speed up the process. Roz packs the Christmas stuff away and heads home.

Dalton closes a big deal before the holidays. Now, he wants to focus on his family. He overhears his co-worker, James, on the phone with his superintendent. The pipe in James’s apartment broke, and it’s flooded. They won’t be able to fix it until after the holidays. Dalton offers to let James stay with his family, but James declines the invitation.

James sits at a cafe calling hotels, but no one has a room. He orders a blueberry muffin and leaves the table to wash his hands. Seconds later, Lisa enters and sits at the empty table. The waitress assumes James left and gives Lisa the muffin for free. James sits down, corrects the waitress’s mistake, grabs the muffin, and eats it. Lisa gets her things and angrily leaves. James calls the last hotel on his list, but they have no vacancies. He takes Dalton’s offer.

The McKenzie family returns for another week of Christmas fun. Lisa tells Marie and Roz about the muffin man as the men talk about relationships. Later, the family eats and has a joyous celebration over dinner until James arrives. The family can feel the tension between the muffin man and Lisa. Roz leaves to get James a plate and hears an announcement on the TV. The city council won’t stop at removing the Jubilee. They want to eliminate the community center. Roz hangs her head in defeat, but Dalton reminds her that McKenzies never quit. This family will pull together to create the Christmas Jubilee without the city council and prove the community center’s worth. Can the McKenzies pull off a Christmas Miracle?

The third installment in the McKenzies franchise doesn’t disappoint. They continue to be open, loving, and compassionate. They spread this message of joy and prosperity to their community. While Roz battles city hall, Pete wonders how to love again after losing his wife. And Esta tries to find a way to end her relationship as Lisa starts something new. And let’s not forget Marie. She has something on the side but wants the family out of her business. Yes, the pastor is back. Viewers should make the McKenzies a regular part of your holiday season.

Layla arrives at the airport and discovers all the flights have delays or cancellations. She uses her corporate credit card for lounge access and calls her boyfriend, Tanner, with an update. Layla won’t make their annual Pentatonix concert on time but will see him for the holiday. Layla is grabbing food at the buffet when she bumps into Teddy, causing him to drop two bowls. They laugh, and he gives her a food tip before leaving.

Layla eats while listening to holiday music when James sits next to her. They bond and acknowledge their connection. However, both are dating other people. They make a pact. Next Christmas, they will meet at the Pentatonix concert if they are single. However, they won’t share last names or cyberstalk each other.

Nearly a year later, Layla returns home to find Tanner on the couch with another woman. She throws Tanner out and commiserates with her best friend, Roxy. Roxy reminds Layla about ‘Airport James.’ Layla looked up the Pentatonix tickets online, but the show sold out. However, they see James holding the tickets on the website. Layla takes it as a sign and vows to get tickets. After checking all the sites, they find nothing. Roxy suggests using a concierge site, Impromptu.

Teddy arrives at work, and his boss, Louise, warns him. His 90-day probationary period is almost over, and his scores are low. She will let him go if he doesn’t wow the next client. She had a potential client email her multiple times before 5 am and arrive in person. She wants Teddy to make that client’s dreams come true. Teddy introduces himself to Layla. He recognizes her face but not from where. She tells him her story, and he tries to find tickets. The typical methods fall through. They get inventive and unconventional as they run around the city for Layla’s date with fate. As Teddy posts about it, they gain fans. Will Layla find James or something else?

Teddy and Layla have one missed adventure after another while people invest in their quest. They get funnier and closer with each step in their journey. Layla sees Teddy’s loving side, and he understands why she is so driven. This movie doesn’t rely on the holiday to push the story forward. Christmas is the backdrop to a conventional and unconventional meet cute. This movie wouldn’t be appropriate for network TV but great for adults looking for a different rom-com.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

Are you hoping for the demise of my relationship – Layla

Merry Christmas to me – James

The type of guy who kills your fish – Roxy

I’d like to say there’s room for improvement – Teddy

Roz and Dalton rekindled their romance and have a baby on the way. Dalton worries about the added stress the holiday will bring. So he grabs Roz’s phone and texts their families that Christmas’s canceled. He sleeps, knowing he did the best thing for his family.

Roz burns Dalton’s surprise breakfast. She focused on making a grilled peanut butter sandwich and forgot the food. She wanted to use the meal as an apology. Then, the doorbell rings. Roz sent another text inviting their families. Roz’s mother, Marie, and sister, Lisa, bring luggage and sassiness. Dalton’s brothers, Pete and Tim, bring laughter. It doesn’t take long for Lisa and Tim to pester each other. As Dalton and Roz host their families during a pregnancy, the family has one question: When will they get remarried? They believe it will be the perfect Christmas gift for their new son.

This sequel brings laughter that the first movie missed. The McKenzies are a joy to be around and will remind you of your family. They make jokes at the other’s expense but always with good intent. The beauty of this family is that they hold each other accountable. They speak up, whether it’s about Lisa’s dating choices, Esta’s new boyfriend, or Tim’s bachelor lifestyle. Seeing a family communicate and grow during the holidays, especially the men, is refreshing. And the pastor returns.
