The town is abuzz and shellshocked by Shelby and Jacksons nuptial. Shelby feels stressed and passes it to her mother M’Lynn. M’Lynn is doing everything she can to keep the wedding on track, her daughter calm, and her husband out of jail. Before the wedding, the two women go to Truvy’s Beauty Salon to get their hair done. Truvy introduces her new Glamour Technician Annelle. Annelle is mousy and lacks confidence but Truvy sees her potential. In the salon are regulars Ouiser and Clairee who love to gossip. Over the years, Ouiser has been hardened by circumstance but she is there for her friends. Often with harsh but honest words. Clairee is a true southern debutant with a little “tea” to spill. Since her husband passed away, she feels she should be doing something. Her job up to now was being a wife and a mother. However, the widow has an empty nest and wonder what’s next for her. Over the next few years, these 6 women will take you on a journey of birth, life, family, money, death, love, and faith.
This movie invented “shade” before it was cool. These women are funny and unique. Each shine through the screen. Based on the play Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling, this movie has some of the best one-liners ever in a film (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). Since the fast forward covers a short amount of time, you are not left confused with new characters or aging make-up. And each time jump is marked by a holiday or special event to help the story along. This is a great movie to watch at any time. Enjoy this classic today.
