In LA 2019, Decker is eating a meal when he is called to come back to work.  As a retired LA Blade Runner, Decker’s invitation is not well received but he doesn’t have a choice.   He learned that 6 Replicants came to earth.  Replicants are an engineered slave labor, designed with specific jobs in mind.  However, over time they start to develop real emotions and start to fight back.  To make sure this doesn’t happen, Replicants have a 4-year lifespan and are not allowed on earth.  If any run or make it to earth, they are hunted by a Blade Runner and “retired” (because only humans can be killed).   Hearing that 6 replicants made it to earth, caused the Blade Runner Captain to call the best in the business.  First, Decker learns that 2 of the Replicants died trying to break into Tyrell Corporation (creator of the Replicants).  Then he is given intel on the final 4:

  1. Batty (Roy) – created for combat, most likely to leader
  2. Zhora – created for a murder squad
  3. Leon – a large duty loader and combat ready
  4. Pris – created for military pleasure

Decker’s mission is to find the 4 and retire them.  However, he needs to know their plan.  Decker doesn’t know that their plan is simple.  To Live.

Based on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick, this futuristic drama plays on the most basic human instinct: Life (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  You can understand Batty’s rage when he realizes that his life will end.  It’s not hard to understand why he would fight and try to live longer.  Since this is set it 2019, it’s hard to ignore the technical inaccuracies; however, it did get a lot right.   Like voice commanded operated machines, advertisements, and video conferencing.  So seeing these advancements come to life in the 80s is great eye candy.  Now, while this movie has an original concept it does get boring.  Combining monotone characters, dark imagery, and a slow script creates very boring scenes.  The action moments are what makes this movie watchable.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars
