Dr. Steven Strange is a brilliant neurosurgeon who only wants to focus on cases that benefit his career and get him on CNN, magazines, and medical journals. While going over potential cases, he suffers a devastating car crash that crushes both of his hands. Losing his ability to practice medicine crushes his soul and he lashes out at the person who loves him the most, Dr. Catherine Palmer. He is out of money and down on his luck when his physical therapist tells Dr. Strange about a paraplegic man, Jonathan Pangborn, who gained the ability to walk. Dr. Strange finds Jonathan (whom Dr. Strange turned down to help after his injury) and learns that Jonathan went to Nepal and go help at Kamar-Taj. Dr. Strange is quickly on his way to finding his destiny, strength, and purpose. But will he have to sacrifice his oath as a doctor, to save all of humanity? It will take a cosmic astrophysical, mirror-shattering, and mind-bending trip to find out.
Dr. Strange has all the arrogance and intelligence of Tony Stark but without the suit. However, with the knowledge he gains from The Ancient One, he doesn’t need any suit, just an open mind. The special effects are as riveting as they are dizzying. It’s hard to tell what is up, down, left, or right. And this is a great thing. There is one scene that is fun because the background is going backward while the characters are going forwards; and all the while, the characters are still affected by the moving background. Dizzy yet. LOL. This globe-trotting movie is one fun ride with a cool cloak. The only downfall is the jokes, that should hit their mark, fall as flat as the jokes that are supposed to fail. Dr. Strange is a great ride for IMAX 3D. And stay past all the credits for 2 jaw-dropping, sneak peek scenes. And keep your eyes open for Stan Lee.
I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars
