Phil, a weatherman for PHC network, is looking forward to moving on to something bigger and better; but the new producer, Rita, has caught his eye. For the 4th year in a row, Phil has to go to Punxsutawney, PA to do a report on Groundhog’s Day. Phil thinks it’s demeaning for him to report on this because animals can’t predict the weather … that’s his job. On his drive up with Rita and Larry (the cameraman), his speaks to them with his natural aloof and cranky attitude. Phil informs them that he wants to get there, do the report, and leave. After the report, Phil, Rita, and Larry try to head home, but are stuck in a blizzard, which Phil did not predict. Phil goes back to the hotel and falls asleep. He wakes up at 6:00 am and realizes it’s still Groundhog’s day. This continues loop will have him on highs, lows, and a snowball fight. But what will it take to stop this loop.
Have you ever wonder, “If I had that day to do over again, I would” … well … this movie will make you think twice about that. This movie answer most of the “what would you do” questions. If you know everything that would happen, would you steal, save, or connect. Seeing Phil go through his lows are hard, but seeing him learn day to day and become a better person is great. It does get a little confusing telling one cycle from another. The writers should have incorporated the clock for each new cycle. This is a fun movie for adults and teens but a bit much for the kids.
I give it 4 out of 5 stars
