In 1829, Matt Cullen and Rose Creek’s townspeople know that Bartholomew Bogue plans to run through their town like plague.  In turn, they plan to meet in their church to conjure a ideas of attack. During the meeting Bogue, walks into the church. He offers the $20 for each of their land, so he can take over the mines for gold. If they don’t comply, they die. And he makes his point with a bloody and cold fight, which ends in Matt’s death. Emma, Matt’s wife, finds Sam Chisolm, a well-known bounty hunter. She offers Sam all the town’s money if he can get rid of Bogue. At first Chisolm says no, but one mention of Bogue’s name, and he is on the case. Everyone knows that Bogue has a strong army of men, but Chisolm will only need 6.

  1. Josh Farraday, a gambler
  2. Goodnight Robicheaux, a sharpshooter
  3. Jack Horne, a tracker
  4. Billy Rocks, an assassin
  5. Vasquez, an outlaw
  6. Red Harvest, a warrior

The men roll through Rose Creek, they take out the opposition and send a survivor with a message for Bogue. Either Bogue comes to face the townspeople or everyone will know he is a coward. The Magnificent 7 must stay strong and teach the townspeople how to defended themselves in battles.  This will lead to a gruesome showdown

This movie is a remake of a remake. The original 1954’s Seven Samurai and the 1st remake 1960’s Magnificent Seven are classics (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). It can be easy to write this movie off, but it’s a joy to watch. The costume and set designer did a terrific job with this period piece. Also, the screenwriter took the time to make you care about each character and their back story.  While the cast and the script are good (including Vincent D’Onofrio voice), it’s just not phenomenal. There just seems to be an element missing.  Seeing this movies at full price is fine. However, only see it in IMAX if sound quality is important to you, because it has no effect on the look

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

It won’t sweeten. It will only sour – Bogue

They’re better off without you – Chisolm

I think you need that more than I do – Teddy

I’m hungry – Red Harvest

Seems I was the only one with balls big enough – Emma

You forgot this – Rocks
