When Darryl Graham moves into apartment 3B, the tenant’s lives are exposed.  Connie, his neighbor from across the hall, is dealing with Avery’s (her husband) rejections and put-downs everyday.  She is on a mission to save her marriage, while her husband is on a mission to save himself.  Krystal, who moves in downstairs, is trying to please her fiance’ Slim, restart her love affair with Darryl, and keep her little blue boxes a secret from from everyone … especially the nosy ladies on the stoop. Benny, just turned 21 and want his father, Ben, to see him for the man that he is and accept the man he wants to be.  Nancy is dealing with loving Ben, who wants to put a ring on her finger, despite the fact she already has a ring.  And just when you think this apartment building can’t get any crazier, someone dies in a horrific fire.  During the investigation, its discovered that everyone had a motive and told the victim, “I am going to kill you”.  So who died? Was it an accident or murder? Who did it? Only time … and gossip … will tell.

The Man in 3B started as a book written by famed author Carl Weber (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  The twist and turn that made the book hard to put down, makes this movie easy to watch.  Carl Weber, also the screenwriter, keeps the integrity of his book with the firm knowledge that all the elements could not be present.  You get an understanding of each character and their struggles.  It’s easy to look at the screen and see your family, friend, or … well … neighbor.  Each actor has taken the time to study and understand Carl’s vision because the book’s inner dialog is on full display with their emotions.  However, with all books-turned-to-movies, some items must be cut short.  Two aspects surely missed is (1) the development of Benny and Darryl’s connection and (2) the build up of resentment between Connie and Krystal.  Hopefully, these connections will be available in an extended version of the DVD.  If you loved the book, you MUST see this movie.  This movie and its actors truly did the book its due justice .  If you haven’t read the book (which you should), get it today so you will still get a full understanding of each character.

I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars
