David talks to his parents on the phone while they encourage him to open his heart to love. He promises to be open-minded and walks to his car to drive to a wedding. Sadly, he finds a boot on his car. He turns to see a flyer for an emergency car rental service. David calls the company, and they have a vehicle he can use now.

David arrives for his car and finds a nearly empty warehouse. It has a table and two employees. David is alarmed when he sees a headshot that he never took on their desk. They say it’s due diligence. They offer him a late 90s Saturn SL and a navigation system. David says he will sync his phone, but that model doesn’t have that technology. The employees urge him to get the navigation in case his phone dies. David agrees and drives to the wedding.

David sees a beautiful woman named Sarah across the aisle. She asks him to dance, but he doesn’t. They converse and have fun. However, they know dating would be a horrible idea. Sarah dances with other suitors as David watches from afar, rejecting one woman after another.

The next morning, David gets in his vehicle, and the navigation asks if he wants a big, bold, beautiful journey. He agrees, and the navigation tells him to go to Burger King and order a hamburger. David sits at the restaurant and sees Sarah two tables away. She gets up and sits next to him. They continue their conversation from the wedding. They are attracted to each other, but she doesn’t believe she is right for him. She destroys men in her relationship. Although David wants to continue, they decide to go their separate ways. They walk to the parking lot and realize they have the same car from the same rental company. Of course, Sarah got the navigation system.

David starts his car, and the navigation system sends him on a path to continue his journey. To continue, it tells him to pick up Sarah. David hears a honk and rolls down his window. Her car won’t start. Sarah gets in his car and they continue their journey together. It will include mistakes, hurt, and love, but what will they uncover about themselves?

This film is an obvious Oscar grab for the actors and the director. While the message is charming, the delivery is bland. Sarah and David’s need for self-assurance appears whiny and selfish. They constantly beg the other person to love them while pushing the person away. It becomes a tedious plot point. The overall story is sweet and endearing. However, it’s a slow pace that bores the audience. The director shot this film magnificently, the writer has an intriguing premise, and the actors are first-class. Nevertheless, they can’t save this boring, self-important film. But rest assured, it will win an award.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

I’m not afraid of you. I’m afraid of hurting you – Sarah

Cameron Sr. and Yvette sit with their son, Cameron Cade, to watch their favorite team, The Saviors, compete in the championship game. Their favorite player, Isaiah White, scores the winning touchdown during the LXVII championship while breaking his leg. Cameron Sr. tells his son that Isaiah made the ultimate sacrifice for his team. He is the G.O.A.T., and one day, Cameron Jr. will be too.

Fourteen years later, football recruiters have their eyes on Cameron Jr. as the next great quarterback. Isaiah just received his 8th championship, making him the most-winning quarterback in the league. Rumors circulate that Isaiah wants to retire, and fans believe Cameron will be next in line for the position, until someone attacks Cameron and causes him to have a traumatic brain injury. He has several staples and a recommendation to take it easy. Doctors don’t know what will happen if he hits his head again. Cameron’s agent, Tom, and his family want to know if Cameron is ready to meet the teams. However, he refuses to participate in the combine. Tom goes before the press and states that Cameron’s record speaks for itself.

Cameron parties when he gets the call from the Saviors. They want him to attend a training camp hosted by Isaiah. If they like Cameron, they will sign him. Cameron accepts the offer and agrees to drive out to the desert for this astounding opportunity. Cult-like fans of Isaiah attack Cameron’s car on the drive to the camp. They spit on it and scream that they don’t want him. Cameron exits the vehicle, grabs the packages on the doorstep, and enters the camp. He looks around until he finds Isaiah. Isaiah assures Cameron that they will learn about the nuances of the game, uncover their camaraderie, and have fun. Cameron will spend six days there, covering topics such as fun, poise, leadership, resilience, vision, and sacrifice. Cameron can’t wait to start the first day of his career, but will it be the end of his life?

This thriller contains imagery and hidden symbols to warn the viewers about worshipping false idols, success at all costs, the dangers of CTE, or a combination of all three. It’s hard to decipher. You look for the hidden messages within the cinematography and forget the story. Some are obvious, like the last supper picture before the big battle. While others will leave you scratching your head, like the gun scene. Then you have animal masks, creepy paparazzi, and worshipping players. This movie has a plot that YouTubers will analyze for years to come. However, that’s where the story fails. It tries too hard to be intelligent and thought-provoking. It succeeds in being cringy, funny, and honest. See this movie if the trailers pique your interest.
