Vanished Out of Sight – Review

Vanished Out of Sight – Lifetime – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Claire gives her daughter, Briar, a bath before opening presents on Christmas morning. Briar questions Claire about swimming and going out. Claire says she swam when she was younger but now doesn’t because she’s blind. Claire rejects Briar’s request to venture farther. Later, Briar opens presents as they hear a knock on the door. It’s Claire’s boyfriend, Beck. He brought presents for Briar, including a bike, but he saved the best gift for Claire, an engagement ring. Claire doesn’t accept his proposal because she wants their lives to stay the same. Beck knows Claire hides her past from him but wishes she would talk to him. Beck leaves to spend time with his uncle, while Claire and Briar spend the afternoon together.

Briar wants to ride her bicycle, so Claire calls her neighbor, Kim, to watch Briar while she works in the garden. Later, Briar asks to spend time with her friend, Kim’s daughter Joyce, and Claire agrees. But Briar needs to be home before dinner. Later, Claire prepares dinner and calls Kim to bring Briar home. Kim pauses and says Joyce walked Briar home an hour ago. Claire races to Briar’s room and screams for her. After checking her home, Claire confronts Kim. Kim says the girls always walk together. Then, Kim calls her husband, Stan, for help. Within minutes, the neighbors and police form a search party for Briar. Officer Reece Miller questions Claire about Briar while Sheriff Walker Donley interrogates Beck outside. Reece shows Claire compassion and tells Claire to call her directly about anything. Walker enters and repeats Reece’s sentiments, but Claire brushes him off. She dealt with him in the past, and he didn’t find justice for her. Claire won’t depend on the police or her neighbors for help. She will locate Briar in a world of darkness.

Claire solves two mysteries in her life while venturing into a world that she fears. She won’t let anyone stop her from finding Briar. Claire can’t see but uses her other senses to track the kidnapper, find clues, and question suspects. Instead of demanding justice, Claire seizes it. Claire’s panic grows in this movie as more of her loved ones disappear. It amplifies the danger Briar is in. As you watch, you will see Claire make questionable choices, but remember that she is a traumatized woman on the edge. This film feels slow but allows your anxiety to rise with Claire’s.

Dressed to Kill – Review

Dressed to Kill – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Amy walks to Silver Fashion House with an armload of fabrics. The CEO’s daughter, Blair, rushes past Amy and doesn’t offer help. A model assists Amy inside. Amy stops by seamstress Wanda’s desk and hands Wanda a fabric bundle. Wanda forgot to order it the night before. She thanks Amy for helping her. Wanda’s divorce affects her work, but she promises to do better.

Blair sits in her mother’s office while her mother, Vanessa, scolds her for partying in their latest fashion while intoxicated. Blair believes the post is good press because people commented about the dress. However, Vanessa knows the average commenter can’t afford the Silver brand. Blair wants to create an affordable line, but Vanessa says no and demands that Blair exit. Amy enters, and Vanessa shocks her. She wants Amy to take over the company, not Blair. Then, Vanessa looks through dresses for their upcoming runway show, finds poorly-made stitching, and has an asthma attack. She asks for the person responsible, and Amy admits it’s Wanda. Vanessa wants Amy to prove she has CEO skills and demands that she fire Wanda. Regretfully, Amy walks to Wanda’s desk and lets her go. Wanda pleads for her job while Vanessa calls security. Blair and Wanda leave with unkind words for Vanessa.

Amy tells her boyfriend, Kevin, about Vanessa’s vision for Silver. However, Kevin, a therapist, is underwhelmed. He believes that Amy is under too much stress at work and that the CEO position will throw off Amy’s work-life balance. Kevin urges Amy not to take the job because she will become Vanessa – overworked, mean, and alone. Amy begs Kevin to be more encouraging, and he relents. She promises to be a different CEO.

Amy arrives at work and sees the coroner removing Vanessa’s body from the premises. Blair runs to check on Vanessa, and the police pull them aside. The police believe Vanessa had an asthma attack and died. Amy knows Vanessa would misplace her inhaler, but Vanessa never lost it. Amy asks the police about the security cameras, but earlier, someone turned them off before Vanessa’s death. Amy pretends to accept the police’s theory.

Blair sits at Vanessa’s will reading when Amy enters. Vanessa left the property and 10% of the company to Blair. However, she left the rest of Silver to Amy. Blair rages. She believes Amy knew about the will change and killed Vanessa to take over. Blair vows to prove Amy murdered Vanessa. Amy swears she didn’t do it and laughs at Blair’s allegations until the police believe Blair. Can Amy prove her innocence while running the company?

This movie is a masterclass in misdirection. The plot establishes viable suspects with suspicious behaviors, motives, and leading clues. The story makes Amy look disoriented for a moment. Some viewers will wonder if she’s the killer. With so much buildup, the culprit is less revealing. This film is like a roller coaster, a wild ride that ends predictably.
