Brewster’s Millions: Christmas – Review

Brewster’s Millions: Christmas – BET+ – 1 hour and 40 minutes

Morgan Brewster leaves her successful business meeting to meet her stylist at home. Morgan’s aunt, Mrs. Brewster, surprises Morgan when Morgan walks through the door. Mrs. Brewster discusses Morgan’s spending and overindulgence. Morgan doesn’t think it’s an issue because she works hard but not in the family business. Mrs. Brewster questions Morgan’s holiday plans, and Morgan cuts off her aunt. She will not celebrate with the Brewsters because she planned a trip around the world. Mrs. Brewster believes Morgan exiled herself because this is the first Christmas with her husband, Monty, Morgan’s uncle. They took care of Morgan after her parents died and doted on her. Morgan refuses to change her plans or habits.

Morgan goes to lunch with friends, and the restaurant declines several of her credit cards. Morgan’s friends ditch her, and the waitstaff kicks her out. Morgan runs to Mrs. Brewster for an explanation. Mrs. Brewster cut off Morgan’s credit cards and stipend. She informs Morgan that her job doesn’t cover her bills. Mrs. Brewster is tired of Morgan’s antics and is ready to retire. She wants Morgan to take over the company but doesn’t believe Morgan’s prepared. So, Uncle Monty created four tasks for Morgan to complete before Christmas. Morgan will get her inheritance and the company. Otherwise, Mrs. Brewster will cut her off. Mrs. Brewster has her COO, Tiffany, and Tiffany’s right hand, Andrew, enter. While Tiffany assists Mrs. Brewster with daily operations, Andrew will keep a watchful eye on Morgan to ensure Morgan follows the rules. They are to create safe and clean long-term housing, give a child a unique gift that doesn’t require money, restore her faith in the meaning of Christmas, and open her heart to love. Morgan can’t use her name, money, connection, donations, or gifts to cheat. Mrs. Brewster hands Morgan a card with $2500 to take care of basic needs. Morgan groans and yells at Andrew to follow. She doubts herself but pledges to succeed. However, Tiffany will make it difficult. She doesn’t believe Morgan is fit to lead and tells Andrew to place obstacles in Morgan’s way. Will Morgan succeed, or will Tiffany lead?

Inspired by Brewster’s Millions, this movie puts a holiday twist to Brewster’s mission (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). However, she doesn’t have to spend money but help others. Morgan believes she’s a good person because she helps companies with their philanthropic efforts. However, she will see the error in her ways and their detrimental cost. Morgan learns the beauty of giving, sharing, and caring. She discovers how to make a home with little and see past what others lack. This film is funny and will bring a tear to your eye.

The Day Before Christmas – Review

The Day Before Christmas – BET+ – 1 hour and 21 minutes

Nia waits in the pick-up line for her daughter, Imani, while checking her to-do list. Nia has two catering jobs and a bank loan meeting tomorrow, Christmas Eve. Then, Nia sees another parent, Rashaad, jump the line, double park, and get out of his car. Nia confronts Rashaad for breaking protocol, and he tells her to relax. His son, Bryce, exits the school with Imani. Both children get in their respective parent’s car. Bryce and Nia exchange words and leave. Nia arrives home and finds a foreclosure notice on her door. Since her husband died, Nia struggles. She will thrive if she gets the bank loan tomorrow.

Nia cooks through the night. Imani finds Nia on the couch and wakes her. Nia jumps up, dresses, grabs her food, and drives to the school. Imani and the other students have a trip before their play. The organizer informs Nia that they are late. Rashaad and Bryce arrive late, too. Rashaad and Nia ask if the school has a second bus for late arrivals, but they don’t. Nia considers driving Imani to the trip, but Rashaad points at Nia’s flat tire. She angrily sighs. Earlier, she took out the spare for the food. Rashaad calls a tow truck, but the car needs more than a tire. Rashaad offers to drive Nia to her first catering job. And Nia thanks him.

Rashaad explains that today is vital for him, too. He is a photographer, and the mayor requested Rashaad take his family portrait. If Rashaad does well, it will lead to more work with the city. Also, it will prove to Rashaad’s ex-wife, Gabrielle, that he’s a stable parent. Rashaad drops Nia and Imani off and drives away. Then, Nia remembers the food was in her car at the repair shop. She tries to call Rashaad, but her code doesn’t work. Nia has Rashaad’s phone. She panics until Rashaad calls her. When Rashaad realized he had Nia’s phone, Bryce told Rashaad to try Imani’s birthday as the code. They exchange codes.

Nia meets with the coordinator and makes an excuse about why the food is missing. She and Imani hide in the bathroom until they create a plan. Nia asks Imani for the cookies in her backpack. Imani looks inside and finds a camera. Imani accidently grabbed Bryce’s back with Rashaad’s camera. Nia and Rashaad will have to cover for each other. Nia will lose her home, and Rashaad will lose Bryce if they fail. Will they gain more if they succeed?

Nia and Rashaad start as enemies. She has a type-A personality. Every item on her to-do list notifies her. Rashaad likes to let things flow and believes everything will work out. However, they have to do something new: trust. She has to trust him to please her clients, and he with his. Nia discovers Rashaad’s style derives from having Bryce part-time. He wants to be a fun and easy-going parent. Rashaad sees that Nia’s need for control comes from losing her husband. Also, they both have something to lose. Once Nia and Rashaad gain mutual respect, they will do anything for each other. And the script doesn’t vilify Gabrielle. She is a concerned mother with a heart. This film is a funny series of misfortunes that lead to love.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars
