Alice, the Captain of the Wonderland ship, has been away at sea for a year. She heads back home to give her report and then set off on her next voyage. When she gets home, her mother informs Alice that her business partner has died and left his son, Hamish (her ex-fiancé) , in charge. Hamish tells Alice that she will not be going on any more voyages and will work inside the company as a clock (a.k.a time keeper). Alice believe she can fight because she owns 10% of the company. Alice’s dreams are dashed when she is reminded that her mother owns 10%. But, unbeknownst to Alice, her mother sold the 10% along with their home … to Hamish. Hamish will give Alice her home, only if she give him Wonderland, her father’s ship. This news sends Alice running for a place to make one of the hardest decisions since her engagement. Then Alice sees, Absolem, who leads her through the looking glass to Wonderland. Once in Wonderland, The White Queen tells Alice that the Mad Hatter is gravely ill and only she can help. Alice goes to see the Hatter and finds out that he believes his family survived the Jabberwocky and is still alive; because he found the first hat he ever made in the ground where they perished. And if that hat survived then they did too. Alice tells him this is impossible, however the White Queen knows a way to bring them back. Alice must go to Time’s palace, steal the Chronosphere, use it to go back into time, save the Mad Hatter family before they are killed by the Jabberwocky, and make it home to make the hardest decision of her life. Well, that doesn’t sound so hard. Alice just needs to beat Time.
This movie, loosely based on Through The Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll, is as visually beautiful as the first (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). The script is average but the effects make up for the lack of strong dialogue. Today’s superhero movies can learn how to intertwine live action and animation sequences seamlessly. You learn the reason for the Red Queen’s hatred, The White Queens secret’s, and the Hatter’s past. There is so much going on, its hard to write about … let alone see. Only see this in 3D if you have a child under 10. Otherwise, this movie is a 2D matinee or Red Box (if you have a good television).
