After the death of Ethan’s parents, Chris and Isaac help pick up his spirits by going on a guys outing on Christmas Eve.  This outing is now a 14 year tradition.  Although Ethan would like to continue this tradition, Chris (with a rising football career) and Isaac (with a baby on the way) decide they need to give up the outing and focus on the changes in their life.  With this last hoorah, they get tickets to the biggest, most legendary, underground party of the year.  Of course, we all know, getting to the party is 1/2 the fun.  Like all bromance movies, these guys learn about themselves and each other … just in time for the holiday.

Don’t expect Superbad or This is the End funny from The Night Before.  This movie does have its WTF and OMG moments but some jokes are lackluster.  You know you should laugh, but you don’t.  It starts a little boring, but picks up at the end.  But unlike most buddy comedies, this movie works on character development for all 3 guys.  The product placements are in-your-face, but purposefully so.  It also merges scenes from classic holiday movies and songs to get you in the holiday spirit with fun cameo appearances.  This is a good matinee movie.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars
