Double Double Trouble – Review

Double Double Trouble – Lifetime – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Identical twins, Drea and Ali, host a cooking show, Double the Recipe, together. They look alike, but their personalities are different. Drea is happily married with a baby on the way, and Ali can’t imagine settling down. Drea’s marriage seems idyllic until she has a miscarriage. Her husband, Kevin, can’t continue, and they get a divorce. Later, he gets another woman pregnant and starts a new life with her. Until someone kills him. Drea still searches for love while Ali climbs the corporate ladder for them.

Drea visits a café when she sees a handsome man by the window. She gets up to talk to him, but he leaves. The owner tells Drea that his name is Ryan. He owns a successful cybersecurity company and comes in twice a week at the same time. Drea makes a mental note to return and cyberstalks Ryan in the meantime. Days later, Drea returns to the coffee shop, but Ryan doesn’t show up. Ali attends a tech summit across town and meets Ryan. He invites her to his seminar, and she attends. They connect and go to dinner. Ali comes home, and Drea can see she’s smitten. Ali keeps it under wraps for now but vows to tell Drea later.

When Ali finally introduces Drea to Ryan, Drea stands in shocked silence. She pulls herself together and pretends to be happy. She doesn’t worry because Ali’s relationships don’t last long. However, this time is different. Months later, they are in love and expecting a baby. This moment is the final straw for Drea. Ali is the person everyone picks, and Drea can’t stand it. She won’t allow Ali to live the life she’s always wanted. How far will Drea go to win?

This well-choreographed movie is a mind-bender that will keep Lifetimers on the edge of their seats. Viewers should remember that Ali wears red lipstick, and Drea prefers straight hair. This detail will help you tell the twins apart. The scenes with both women flow together seamlessly, thanks to excellent timing, expert camera angles, and wonderful acting. This movie has 3 separate twists. Two you may figure out, but the third will send you for a loop and make you beg for part two. This film is a future classic that Lifetimers crave. It has elements of old-school Lifetime with a few new-school references thrown in. The writing exposes the dangers of jealousy. While it can appear harmless or even funny, it can pollute a person’s spirit. Watch this movie before someone spoils the ending.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars

Who Took My Family? – Review

Who Took My Family? – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Courtney watches her daughters, Skye and Harper, swim in the pool while her husband, Stan, brings their towels. She’s nervous about her upcoming meeting, but Stan has faith in her. He prepared her clothes and will have the girls ready in the morning. Courtney kisses and thanks her supportive, stay-at-home husband. Courtney attends the meeting with her colleague, Richard. She panics when they don’t hear back from the buyer quickly. As Richard assures it will happen, they get a call. Courtney received the multimillion-dollar merger for her luxe home decor brand. As the team celebrates, Courtney calls Stan, but it goes to voicemail. Courtney returns home, but no one is there. She calls friends and family, but no one has seen or heard from Stan and the girls. Courtney’s friend, Paige, visits from next door. She urges Courtney to call the hospital. After no luck, Courtney calls the police. The detective questions Courtney’s business, marriage, and friendships. But she can’t think of anyone who would hurt her family. However, she doesn’t believe Stan would leave because they had a stable marriage. The police report her family as missing.

In the morning, Courtney goes to the girls’ school and uncovers that they didn’t attend. Stan reported them sick. Courtney cries in her car as Bianca knocks on the window. She questions Stan’s location because they regularly spend time together. Courtney informs Bianca that Stan is not a single parent like her before driving off. She returns home to food in the kitchen. Her mother-in-law, Barbara, came over to help. Though she quietly blames Courtney for Stan’s disappearance because Courtney is not a traditional wife. To Barbara’s chagrin, Paige enters without knocking. She offers to help as she greets Barbara. Then, Bianca stops by. She apologizes for earlier and informs Courtney that the mom group organized a search at Stan’s favorite locations. Courtney continues to pray for the safe return of her family. However, she loses hope when the police find Stan’s abandoned van in the woods with blood inside. Courtney is determined to find out who took her family and why.

This mystery movie targets the notion of a woman’s role in the home. As the case unfolds, Courtney deals with judgment from internet trolls, Barbara, and other moms. The script brings social media comments to life. It raises popular points of view but resolves them with care and understanding. Viewers will feel triumphant when Courtney stands her ground against anyone who calls her a bad mom. The mystery will keep you guessing for the 1st half of the film. Afterward, you will watch to prove yourself right. It allows the film to start entertaining but end with a discussion.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

To Catch a Cheater – Review

To Catch a Cheater – Lifetime – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Hannah, Charli, and Megan raid Hannah’s closet, trying on clothes and discussing their boyfriends. They will be going to college next year, and Charli suggests they give their boyfriends a loyalty test. They will meet each other’s boyfriends, flirt with them, and report the results. Hannah and Megan say no, but Charli reminds them that Megan’s boyfriend, Joe, cheated on her in Cabo. They reluctantly agree to the pact. While the teens are in Hannah’s room, their mothers are playing cards. Monica, Bridget, and Kim met the day they gave birth. Their daughters have the same birthday. Bridget and Kim started a business together, and they are excitedly awaiting their IPO. This will lead to unprecedented growth in their business.

Days later, Hannah waits for Charli’s boyfriend, Nick. Charli calls Joe, and Megan meets with Hannah’s boyfriend, Hunter. Monica talks to her son, Leo, about attending Hannah’s graduation with Monica’s ex-husband, David. They haven’t gotten along since their divorce, but Hannah wants them both there. Leo offered to talk some sense into them. Then, the police knock on Monica’s door. He asks her to bring friends for support. She goes to the park with Bridget and Kim. Monica screams when she sees Hannah’s body.

After the funeral, a detective sits with Monica, David, and Leo. Hannah died from blunt force trauma to the head. Nevertheless, they don’t believe it’s murder. Hannah texted an ‘I’m sorry’ message before her death. They think Hannah either ended her life or fell and hit her head. Monica refuses to believe her daughter ended her life. She thinks someone killed Hannah. Monica will do anything to discover the truth, but can she handle it?

This Lifetime movie will have you guessing until the end. Everyone in Monica’s life has secrets. This dynamic makes viewers look at the characters sideways. And Lifetimers uncover the truth with Monica. You are never one step ahead or behind. The daughters are a class unto themselves. Don’t be surprised if one of the daughters irks your last nerve. But this character flaw drives the story and reveals more questions. This movie blunder is the motive. It’s a bit far-fetched for the most discerning viewer. This film is a compelling ride to a flat end.

Because of Cupid – Review

Because of Cupid – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Bar tenders Marcus and Naomi can’t believe their boss, Lisa, is selling her establishment, Agora. Naomi pleads with Lisa to get an oven. She hopes to cook for the patrons and sell mocktails to get more business. But Lisa says no. Then, she informs them that the buyer, Steven, will turn Agora’s into a parking garage. Naomi wishes she could purchase Agora. As Marcus and Naomi contemplate their future, EJ and Hal walk over. They learn that EJ writes Naomi and Lisa’s favorite book series. Lisa introduces herself to EJ, and they flirt with each other. However, it leads to nothing. Hal, Naomi, and Marcus think it’s unbelievable that they didn’t pair up. Hal thinks they could have been soulmates, but Naomi and Marcus scoff at him. Neither of them believes in that. Hal invites them to his tea café, and they agree to come.

Naomi asks to meet Marcus’s uncle, Rich, for guidance about buying Agora. He offers to let them work in one of his restaurants, but Naomi politely declines. He says they need money for the business. And he suggests they enter the Annual Mocktails competition. It has a substantial cash prize. Naomi urges Marcus to enter with her. Rich wishes them good luck because he has won 5 years in a row. They visit Hal at his tea café, and they discuss love. Hal gives Marcus a vial of green liquid. It gives people the courage to fall in love. Marcus calls it a love potion, but Hal says it’s a courage elixir. Naomi grabs it to drink, but Marcus lies, saying it contains mangos. She’s allergic.

Naomi and Marcus work at the Agora and practice making mocktails for the competition. Marcus tastes one of Naomi’s concoctions and says it needs something sweet and aromatic. Naomi looks around, finds the vial, and dumps it in. She gives the drinks to Rich, Rich’s friend, Lucy, Lisa, EJ, Steven, Jane, and Marcus. Rich and Lucy, Lisa and EJ, and Jane and Steven instantly fall in love. Then, Marcus professes his love for Naomi. She admits to putting the elixir in the drink, and Marcus confesses it was a love potion. They run to Hal for help. He admits that he’s Cupid and gives them a Greek antidote recipe with an ingredient missing. Marcus and Naomi must find the ingredients, make the potion, and save these couples while competing in the competition. What will Naomi do when her feelings for Marcus grow?

This Loveuary film is fun if you don’t take it too seriously. It focuses on the story of Greek lovers Eros and Psyche. The writer used their story as the inspiration for this film. Naomi has to overcome several challenges to prove her feelings for Marcus. However, she doesn’t do this to win the approval of Venus. She’s proving that true love exists to herself. The love between the actors feels real and perfectly exaggerated, and Cupid is charming. While the story is amusing, the movie won’t hook you.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

Don’t worry, we all know who’s in charge – Marcus

I heard this tune before, and it’s a real downer – Naomi
