Christmas Everyday – Review

Christmas Everyday – Lifetime – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Francine, known by her family as Fancy, calls her mother, Evelyn, before going to work. Evelyn reminds Fancy that a contractor, Jaylen, will visit Fancy’s office. Fancy arrives at work, and Jaylen is there. She explains that Evelyn’s eyesight is deteriorating, and her home needs updates to accommodate her. Before Jaylen can get more information, a business meeting with her boss, Lyla, pulls Fancy away. Jaylen leaves his name and number on a Post-It after Fancy takes too long to return.

Fancy arrives at Evelyn’s home, and a truck blocks the driveway. She accidently bumps it while talking on her phone. Jaylen jumps out and snitches about the accident to Evelyn. They walk inside and examine the home. Jaylen discusses the changes he will make, but offers to fix the floorboard for free. Evelyn matches Jaylen’s kind gesture by extending an offer for dinner with her family. He humbly accepts.

At the dinner table, Jaylen learns the Ballentine women have significant others. Fancy’s oldest younger sister, Deena, is married and has an infant. Fancy’s youngest sister, Belle, is dating Anthony. And Fancy has been in a long-term relationship with Richard. The family isn’t fond of him because he doesn’t attend family events. Fancy clarifies that Richard is up for a promotion. So, he has to put in time with the boss to rise the ranks. Evelyn lost her husband, Walt, last year. This Christmas is the first without him. As the family reminisces about their patriarch, Belle makes an announcement. She and Anthony got engaged and wanted to continue the family’s tradition of getting married on Christmas Eve. Deena and Fancy bounce with joy and plan for next year. Belle cuts them off and says she and Anthony want to get married this year, in three weeks. Also, she wants Fancy to use her design skills to make a custom wedding dress. Deena and Fancy argue about Belle’s request until Evelyn stops them. She wants to see Belle get married before she loses her sight. The sisters relent.

Lyla shocks her employees by returning to work early from her vacation. She has decided to step down and name her successor. However, she is unsure about who to choose: Fancy or Germaine. She gives them a challenge to design the best dress. That will determine her successor. Fancy takes on the challenge, but Jaylen believes Fancy is stretching herself thin. She is balancing Evelyn’s health, his construction, her sister’s wedding, and her job. He tells her to stop and smell the roses, but Richard cheers her on to become a power couple. Can Fancy handle it all?

Fancy’s story mirrors that of the eldest sibling. They take on the brunt of the family responsibility, with everyone assuming they are fine. She doesn’t complain because she presumes no one will listen. However, outsiders like Jaylen can see she is going to crack under the pressure without help. The connection between the three sisters jumps off the screen with their practical arguments and loving wisdom. And the audience will view and feel the love they have for Walt. Your compassion will rise as Evelyn struggles with her eyesight and faith. This film relies on the family bond to move the story forward, not the romantic plot. It’s funny, endearing, and entertaining.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

An Alpine Holiday – Review

An Alpine Holiday – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Sister Faith and Kelly meet with their grandmother’s executor, Henry, to discuss their grandmother’s last wishes. Rebecca loved her granddaughters and wanted the world for them. She wanted them to learn something about themselves and each other by recreating the steps she and her late husband, Albert, took before their engagement at the top of the French Alps on Christmas Eve. Rebecca arranged everything, including the tickets and guide, before her death. However, they must leave now. Faith, full of wanderlust, has her bags packed. She left her boyfriend, Jim, behind because she needed space. This trip is an excuse for her. Homebody Kelly says no because it’s too sudden to drop everything for a trip. Henry gives them Rebecca’s travel journal before they leave the office. Later, Kelly changes her mind, and Faith jumps for joy. She shows Kelly a photo of their handsome guide, Frédéric, and teases Kelly about dating him. However, Kelly doesn’t care about romance. She wants to take the trip and discover her family’s origin story. Kelly and Faith embark on a vacation that forces estranged sisters to be open and honest about each other and themselves. Will their bond grow or be forced apart?

This Hallmark holiday movie is another that puts the love stories on the back burner. It focuses on the connection between Kelly and Faith. Faith traveled the world while Kelly stayed at home with their ailing grandmother. It caused unresolved and unacknowledged friction and resentment in their relationship. However, viewers will notice the underlying and unbreakable love between them. It’s safe to say the love stories weren’t necessary for this film to be entertaining or successful. The bond between Faith and Kelly was enough to bring a tear to your eye. Hallmark must stop relying on love to sell a plot; bonds and connections are enough.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

Why are you breaking into my apartment – Kelly

By the way, that onesie is a walking jump scare – Faith

The More the Merrier – Review

The More the Merrier – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

ER doctor Alice Rogers gets eight dozen cookies for the patients at her hospital. She starts to fall back as she loads them into her car, but Dr. Brian Davis catches her. She thanks him for saving her before heading to the hospital. When Alice arrives, Dr. Natalie greets Alice and reminds Alice that her brother will start his rotation there. He is a visiting cardiologist who will assist several hospitals in the area. Alice is happy to have a specialist in the small town. She knows her patients will get the care they deserve. Until then, Alice wants to ensure the inpatients don’t miss out on the holidays.

Brian arrives at the hospital, and Natalie introduces her brother to the staff. Alice remembers him from before and gives him a gentle smile. Brian asks Natalie about Alice, but Natalie admits she knows little about Alice’s private life. Alice likes to discuss the patients, the staff, and the hospital, but never herself. Then, Brian questions Natalie about her pregnancy. Natalie is 36 weeks along. She doesn’t believe this child will be a Christmas baby, and her pregnancy is going well. As Alice and Brian make the rounds, Alice notices that Brian’s cold demeanor doesn’t connect with the patients. She needs him to change if she is going to leave. Alice, a former military brat, never stays in one place for too long. She consistently changes hospitals and never tells the staff until she exits. Alice will depart after the holidays.

As Brian and Alice continue with their rounds, Nurse Richard makes a faux pas. He says the hospital is quiet. Everyone flinches. They know the Q-word strikes chaos. And it comes true. A snowstorm hits the town, closing the roads. This small-town hospital will see a record-breaking influx of patients. They will test Brian’s standard of care and Alice’s connection to the people. But will it bring more for the doctors?

This short review can’t cover the ensemble’s stories. The writers gave each character a brief introduction and slowly expressed their connection to the hospital. Then, viewers love each person as they see how interwoven they are in this small town. The writers carefully bound each person and gave them meaning in the plot. The story didn’t have any wasted characters, and the subplots are heartwarming and perfect for the holidays. In addition, keep your eyes on the screen as the title card gives astounding news throughout the film. While the story is beautiful, your mind will drift. The plot emphasizes the supporting cast so much that you won’t care about the leads and their love story.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

I’m okay theroricitally – Alice

I don’t think we should risk that – Brian

Have you – Natalie

Secret Life of a Good Wife – Review

Secret Life of a Good Wife – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Jenna and Carrick thank their guest during their wedding reception. Jenna takes out her phone and encourages her followers to strive for her life as a traditional wife. She delights in being an obedient wife and helping her husband take care of the homestead. His parents, Clint and Mae, love Jenna and the traditional values she upholds. Their business supports the small town and helps it thrive. Carrick’s brother, best man Luke, welcomes Jenna to his family with open arms. While Carrick’s family is warm, Jenna’s family can’t hide their icy stares. Jenna’s mother, Eileen, and her sister, Sarah, believe that Carrick’s family and hometown are strange. Sarah doesn’t think Jenna is honestly happy living under Carrick’s control. Eileen says the marriage will end in disaster. Jenna doesn’t understand Eileen’s reservations because Eileen had a traditional marriage, too. After a heated discussion, Eileen exits the party after saying goodbye to her children. Later, Sarah notices that Eileen isn’t answering her messages. Jenna believes Eileen left them again after drinking too much. However, Sarah knows Eileen was getting better. She concludes that Carrick and his family are involved in Eileen’s disappearance. Sarah won’t stop until she uncovers the truth.

This movie portrays the flowery tint people put on traditional marriages without destroying the core concept. The storyline expresses how Jenna wants to right Eileen’s marital wrongs, but she blocks out the trauma surrounding it. Jenna tells herself that being better will produce a favorable outcome. As viewers watch, they should spot the red flags in Carrick’s and his family’s behavior. Jenna must pretend she’s incapable around him. And his family crosses boundaries by forcing their ideology on her. You will beg her to run. The key takeaway from this film is the false portrayals on social media. Jenna promotes this as the best lifestyle to her followers, but she is quietly miserable. Use this movie as an example not to believe everything you see on the internet.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

She is under the influence of something, alright – Eilene

The Snow Must Go On – Review

The Snow Must Go On – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Actor Isaiah’s one-person show doesn’t ignite the theater community. His sisters, Laura and Jess, beg him to return home and regroup. However, he has to work in a holiday singing group. Also, he has an audition in front of the famed Broadway producer, Cindy Santos. He skips work for the audition, but Cindy leaves early. Isaiah runs to work, but they fire him for being late. Isaiah decides to go home and stay with his sister, Jess, and his niece, Aurora.

Jess asks Isaiah to pick up Aurora from school. Isaiah has a few complications, but a teacher, Lilly-Anne, lets him inside. As they enter, Ms. Bedford runs out. She calls it quits with the school and its drama department. Without her, the Christmas Show can’t continue. They don’t have a director and have half of a script. Aurora informs everyone that Isaiah has theater experience. He says no, and Lilly-Anne agrees because no one has vetted him. The principal states that Isaiah needs a faculty member, her, to supervise him, and he can direct. They relent. Isaiah whines until he discovers that a student, Miranda, is Cindy’s daughter. He will make Miranda and himself the stars to impress Cindy. Will it work? Regardless, the snow must go on.

The writers allowed the kids to carry this film. They are quick-witted, funny, and adorable. Hallmarkies will clammer to the finished play more than the love story. With this holiday season, the love story is predictable. But the play isn’t. Minutes before the start, everything that can go wrong does. This panic builds the plot and the community. While the adults aren’t the film’s selling points, the lead actor’s talents are astonishing. He can effortlessly dance, sing, and act. He is mesmerizing.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

May all your Christmas wishes come true – Jess

At least I still have my day job – Isaiah

Code for ‘unemployed.’ Got it – Lilly-Anne

Off, off, off Broadway – Aurora

There’s more to this gal than looks and charm – Sandra

We Met in December – Review

We Met in December – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Bad weather repeatedly delays Dave and Annie’s flights to Chicago. So, the airport puts them in a high-end hotel. Dave runs to open the door for Annie because his mother has a sixth sense about bad manners. Annie laughs but can’t take her eyes off the handsome gentleman. They line up to check in as the concierge explains that the computers are down. They offer the new arrivals a free meal for their time and patience. Dave and Annie talk about their jobs, dreams, and traditions. They settle into their rooms and then meet for dinner.

After a lovely meal and deep conversations, Dave and Annie realize that the airport booked them on the same flight. In fact, they’re seatmates. They decide to meet in the morning and continue their romantic endeavors. They don’t bother to exchange phone numbers or last names because they will see each other in a few hours. They say goodbye before boarding their tower’s elevator to their room. However, Dave stops his elevator, jumps off, and passionately kisses Annie. He can’t wait for tomorrow.

Annie stands at the concierge desk, begging for more information about Dave. However, the concierge won’t be able to find one Dave and hand over his phone number. She warns Annie to leave or risk missing her flight. Annie doesn’t understand why Dave isn’t there. He was an honorable man and attracted to her. However, Annie can’t miss her flight. She leaves her number with the front desk and exits the hotel, vowing to find Dave in Chicago.

Dave wakes and grabs the clock. It’s 9 am. He panics because his flight and Annie left at 8:32. He checks his alarm and realizes he set it for 7 pm, not am. He knows he missed the woman of his dreams. He won’t let a mistake stop him from reaching his destiny. Dave remembers everything Annie told him about herself. He will use that to find her in Chicago. Dave swears he will find Annie by Christmas. Will they see each other again?

Viewers take a ride on the flashback express with this movie. When we meet Dave and Annie, they are kissing by the hotel elevator. So, viewers don’t know what sparked their initial passion. It’s not until Annie and Dave choose to find each other that we learn how they met. Both are successful but are going through personal struggles. This year is the first that Dave’s family will celebrate without his dad. He wants to make this Christmas perfect to help his family heal. Annie became a lawyer for a fashion house but dreamed of designing a line. She thinks she’s too old to seek her passion. The script allowed positivity to propel the story forward. It’s wonderful to see their inner circle encourage their romance. They offer delightful, caring, and funny advice to the love-struck pair. Annie and Dave try everything to reconnect, including modern and old-fashioned solutions. The flame that brings them together is what made them fall in love. This film makes you believe in romance, communication, and family. The writers took a different storytelling approach, and it paid off beautifully. This movie is a classic.

The Body in the Locker – Review

The Body in the Locker – Lifetime – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Amy’s father, Reginald, passed away. He left her in charge of his charity, and she wants to fulfill his legacy. Her husband, James, worked for Reginald. Now, James is up for a significant promotion. If James gets the job, they can focus on starting their family. Amy calls her father’s right-hand, Olivia, for an update on the charity auction. They plan on selling Reginald’s most exclusive items to raise the foundation’s profile and highlight Reginald’s good deeds. Olivia has a few venues in mind, but nothing concrete.

Amy arrives at Reginald’s home and reminisces about her childhood. Then, she hears a sound upstairs. Amy follows the commotion, and a hooded stranger runs out of Reginald’s bedroom, dropping a jewelry box. The culprit grabs a scrap of paper from the box and exits. Amy opens the box and finds a storage locker key and a flash drive.

Amy drives to the storage locker and gets a cold greeting from the receptionist, Lisa. Amy walks to the locker and examines the contents. She opens an armoire and sees a dead body wrapped in plastic. Amy exits the locker and calls 911. Detective David investigates the scene and determines the female body has been there for 3 years. However, according to Lisa’s records, Reginald hasn’t been in the locker for 5 years.

Amy meets her mother, Claire, for lunch. The police used dental records to determine that the woman was a former employee of Reginald’s. Amy questions whether Claire was familiar with Reginald’s less legal dealings. Claire is appalled by the accusation. Also, she and Reginald divorced years ago. So she wouldn’t have that information. Amy informs her mother about the break-in and flash drive. Although it’s password-protected, Claire asks for a chance to crack it. Amy scoffs because Claire barely answers emails. Something still bothers Amy. She fears she’s never known her father and worries he could be a murderer. Is she right?

This movie is a mystery with little action in between. While the killer is a decent reveal, you won’t care because the plot drags on for so long. The upside is that the actors put forth their best effort, and the script had zero plot holes. The last five minutes wrap everything in a nice bow and explain everything you did and didn’t see. This film doesn’t require your full attention after Amy finds the body. You can use it as background noise until the last 15 minutes.

I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars

Melt My Heart This Christmas – Review

Melt My Heart This Christmas – Lifetime – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Holly approaches Jack at his family’s Christmas Fair. He won’t let her inside to get a sneak peek. That’s only for vendors. Holly blushes before trying to confess, but Jack cuts her off. She is a vendor this year, but didn’t register under her name. She applied under her company’s name, Verre. She sneaks past Jack to set up her booth while he chases after Bianca.

Bianca is the crown jewel of the fair. Her blown glass pieces are works of art. After a bad review, she didn’t produce another collection for 5 years. She came out of retirement for the fair. She plans on debuting her new collection at the event. Bianca rushes past Jack and tells him she’s pulling out. Her assistant quit, and Bianca needs someone to handle day-to-day operations. Jack says Holly can do it. Holly understands the art form and admires Bianca’s work. The opportunity astounds Holly, and she silently agrees. Holly wants to join an elite program. She’s tried for years but hasn’t been able to get in. An endorsement from Bianca will go a long way.

Jack sighs after saving the fair before it started, until his grandfather calls Jack into his office. A development company offered him a lot of money for the land. Over the past years, the fair hasn’t been profitable. If Jack can’t make a profit this year, his grandfather will sell the land. It will end their Christmas fair. Jack keeps the fair’s woes to himself but vows to keep Bianca happy. He assumes her unveiling will bring top dollar to the event. However, fans love Verre and want more. This admiration irks Bianca. She wants to know who is running Verre. Holly won’t say because Bianca’s lost her confidence. Telling Bianca the truth may end Bianca’s endorsement of Holly’s entry into the program. Will this house of cards fall, and who will be the victim?

While the script starts with Bianca being a villain, she’s ultimately the reason to watch this movie. Her dismissive, no-nonsense attitude and a driving need to win are funny and slightly inspiring. She is Miranda with a Christmas heart and bruised ego (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). Without Bianca, this film is the typical holiday picture. Viewers will become so engrossed with Bianca that they won’t care about the budding romance between Jake and Holly. Honestly, the writers didn’t care either. Viewers looking for holiday romance should skip this film. Otherwise, join for snide comments and the audacity.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

Don’t you have a job or something – Jack

You are very high energy – Bianca

A Royal Christmas Hope – Review

A Royal Christmas Hope – UPtv – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Prince Christopher tells his parents, the king and queen, that he wants to spend the holidays away from the palace. He desires to spend Christmas in America as he did as a child. He wants to relive those fond memories. They agree to let him go, but he must have a chaperone, Malcolm. Christopher begrudgingly agrees to their terms but tells Malcolm he wants to remain incognito. He doesn’t need the royal treatment or accommodations. And he tells Macolm to refer to him as Chris. Malcolm already booked the hotel, but he agrees to keep Chris’s royal lineage a secret. For now, they will tell everyone that Chris is a European businessman looking to expand to the United States.

Julia runs Hope for All. It provides meals and clothes to those in need year-round. During the holiday, they try to have a toy for each kid. This year is more stressful because fewer companies are willing to donate. Her co-worker and friend, Alexis, suggests canceling the tree lighting ceremony, but Julia refuses. She believes the lighting gives people hope during dark times. Julia prays she gets funding, or this will be the last year for Hope for All.

Chris wears a sweatsuit and sneakers. Malcolm is appalled as Chris jets out the door. Chris bumps into a woman and spills her coffee. He offers to buy a new one, but she politely declines because his shirt has a large stain. Chris sees a building and assumes it’s a store. He enters and asks for coffee. Julia thinks he’s in need because Chris is disheveled and stained. He tries to correct her assumptions, but she wants to assure him that it’s okay to ask for help. Chris smiles and exits with his coffee. Later, he returns in a nice suit and offers to take Julia out. Alexis pushes Julia out the door. Julia thinks she’s meeting a nice executive. How will she feel when she discovers he’s a prince in disguise?

This Christmas Prince film is everything the audience believes it to be. However, Chris isn’t a spoiled brat. Just bored with his hometown holiday. Julia is an endearing person under immense pressure. Her reaction to the truth is overblown because they are both kind people. The plot conflict feels imaginary because the viewers know it will work out. After all, the leads are delightful. This film isn’t exciting, funny, or dramatic. It just exists in the holiday space.

I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars

Don’t worry. I’ll be fine – Chris

There is no shame in asking for help – Julia

Plans? What plans? – Malcolm

Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story – Review

Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Pediatrician Morgan meets with her family to discuss the Bills’ game and strategize about the holiday decorations and tailgate. Her sister, Cathy, eats Buffalo sauce to induce labor while her mother, Joanne, tells Morgan’s brother-in-law, Jeremy, to stay off the furniture. Morgan, Cathy, and Joanne moved in with Morgan’s uncle, Tommy, after Joanne’s husband passed away. As the family laughs, Tommy’s neighbor, Rickie, enters to help with decorations. They can’t wait to take their annual family photo in the Bills’ stadium. This year is different because it will be the last game before the city tears down the stadium for a new one.

As Rickie and Joanne plan, Rickie’s son, Gabe, enters, and they corner him. Gabe works as VP of Stadium Development for the new Bills’ home. And they want to know all the details. Morgan sees that he needs to escape, so she offers an excuse. Gabe and Morgan return home after an outing and find a gift with Tommy’s name on it. They bring the gift inside and give it to Tommy. Tommy confesses that someone has been sending him gifts for years. It started the day he got drafted. His family went through hardships, and the benefactor sent money and gifts. Tommy thought about finding the person. He stopped because of his mother’s shame. Gabe and Morgan decide to do something for Tommy. They will uncover the secret gift giver and finally connect them with Tommy. Along the way, people will point out one fact to Gabe: he’s hopelessly in love with Morgan. On their search, will they find more?

This standalone sequel highlights the Buffalo Bills’ fandom while spotlighting their charity work and team spirit. Unlike the first, it features the players and the coach. The writers even make fun of the team’s win/loss record. The script circles back to the romance; however, it’s the mystery of the gift giver that keeps viewers glued to the TV. This movie has lots of laughs with the memorable Bills’ Mafia, Santa Claus, and a running joke. The love story is overdone, but the actors’ chemistry is believable. While this is a Bills movie, you don’t have to be a fan of the team to enjoy the magic.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

Can a man have his coffee in peace? – Frank
