The Bad Guys enjoy life on parole but can’t find employment. People don’t believe they’ve changed. After another failed interview, Mr. Wolf returns to their hideout with a stack of collection notices. Mr. Piranha, Ms. Web, and Mr. Shark anxiously wait to hear if Mr. Wolf got work, but they are disappointed. Mr. Snake slithers in to grab his yoga mat. He will go to class after drinking his kombucha. The crew gawks at Mr. Snake’s change and doesn’t understand how he can be so happy. Mr. Shark thinks they should worry about the Phantom Bandit heists. It’s only a matter of time before people blame them for the Phantom’s crime spree.
Mr. Wolf spars with Governor Diana Fox. Diane believes the Bad Guys are good. However, it will take time for others to have faith in them. She advises him to win over the town by doing good publicly. Mr. Wolf has an idea and drives to the police station. He and his crew examine the evidence of the heists with Commissioner Misty Luggins. They spot the culprits in the photo and discover that the stolen items contain MacGuffinite. Misty begrudgingly thanks them.
The team researches and finds that the Lords of Lucha championship title contains the precious metal. They think the Phantom Bandit will strike at the wrestling match. Next, they compare the Bandit’s schedule against Mr. Snake’s nights out. They are the same. The team believes Mr. Snake is the Bandit, causing him happiness. They arrive at the match and spot Mr. Snake with his new girlfriend, Susan. They uncover that he isn’t the Bandit. The crew sees the belt hanging over the ring. They deduce that the challenger is the Bandit. They jump into the squared circle and battle for the belt. However, instead of applause, someone frames them for stealing the belt by putting it on Mr. Piranha. The Bad Guys run out of the match and dodge the crowd. Susan hijacks a hotdog cart and saves them. She offers the crew mints, but Mr. Wolf rejects them. Mr. Wolf asks Susan to pull over so he can call Diane and explain that they are innocent. Mr. Wolf returns the van to find the Bad Guys asleep. Susan shoots Mr. Wolf with a dart.
The team wakes up to the Bad Girls. Pig Tails is the muscle. During the match, she hid in plain sight as the challenging luchador. Susan is Doom, a sweet-talker and long-con expert. The mastermind, Kitty Kat, introduces herself. She wants the Bad Guy to help them with their next heists. The Bad Girls plan to steal a MoonX rocket. It will be the score of the century. Mr. Wolf says no. Kitty Kat threatens to expose Diane’s secret life as the Crimson Paw if he doesn’t assist. Mr. Wolf agrees, but he assures his crew that he has an ace up his sleeve. Can the Bad Guys do good and protect Diane’s reputation?
This sequel is better than the first. The capers are more outlandish, the jokes are funnier, and the plot delves deeper. This story handles reform and redemption. The Bad Guys are changed people, but the public won’t let go of their past. They deal with accusations, judgments, and prejudice. While adults may believe this will go over children’s heads, it won’t. It can teach how to offer second chances and the power of change. The animation jumps genres throughout the fight scenes. Anime styles heavily influenced the animators. Typically, this feels disjointed. It works because the graphic artist continued this change throughout the entire film. It makes the art feel more alive and enveloping. Because this movie is an animation, the writers are free to create an unorthodox heist film. They are limited to their imaginations. This concept is where The Fast and the Furious falls short, as each film becomes less believable and less grounded. This franchise isn’t beholden to those rules of confinement. Be sure to stay for the mid-credit scene. It gives insight into the plot for The Bad Guys 3. This picture has the crime style of Leverage, the smoothness of Ocean’s Eleven, and the fun of The Fast and the Furious (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). The entire family will enjoy this film.

Hutch sits in a police station with a dog beside him. He ignites a lighter and uses it to cauterize his wound. The police demand to know who they are. Hutch takes a deep breath and ponders his response. To the outside world, Hutch is married to real estate agent Becca. They raise two children, Sammy and Brady, in a happy and loving environment. However, the underworld knows Hutch as an accountant. He has been doing snatch-and-grabs and executions to pay back the money he burned. He still has $30 million remaining. At home, Hutch is a man who puts work over family. Becca misses him at dinner time and informs Hutch. She mentions the kids’ upcoming summer vacation. Hutch promises to plan everything.
Days later, Hutch shows the family an old video of Plummersville. It has carnival rides and the first water park. Hutch has fond memories of that place because it was the only time his father, David, took him and his brother, Harry, on a trip. Hutch convinces his family to go with David. They arrive in town, check into the hotel, and head to the park. But the park is closed, so they get food instead. As Hutch reminisces, he unknowingly stares at Sheriff Abe. Abe warns Hutch to watch his family instead.
Hutch and his family play games at an arcade. Brady gives his extra tickets to a pretty girl and the rest to his sister. Sammy trades her tickets for a badger as Max approaches. He accuses Brady of flirting with his girlfriend, steals Sammy’s badger, and rips off its head. Brady attacks, and security pounces. They demand that Hutch and his family leave. As they exit, one of the guards hits Sammy in the back of the head. With a ruse, Hutch reenters the arcade without his family and takes out the guards. The police arrest him and Brady.
The family waits at the police station for Abe. Abe brings Hutch to his office and stands at the corner. Wyatt sits at Abe’s desk and states that he runs this town. He demands that Hutch leave and never return. Hutch agrees but stays. Hutch calls Harry to learn more about Plummerville. It’s an old bootlegging hub. Today, thugs still use it as a backdoor for transporting legal items throughout the country.
Abe’s goons spot Hutch and his family at the water park. Abe alerts Wyatt. Wyatt wants Hutch gone by any means necessary. He orders Abe to rid the town of Hutch. He doesn’t know who Hutch is, but he understands that Hutch will bring problems to Lendina’s business. Lendina is a ruthless bootlegger who will kill anyone who disrupts her cash flow, including Wyatt. Hutch won’t budge because he and his family need this time together. No one will ruin this nobody’s vacation.
This sequel doesn’t follow the action genre pattern. It doesn’t put Hutch in a new, exotic location to go on the hunt. Instead, he travels to a small town for family time. He didn’t know a mob owned Plummersville. One wrong move and they trigger the monster inside Hutch. Hutch questions his actions in this film because he sees them mirrored in Brady. He worries that Brady will succumb to a life of violence like his and Harry’s. This charming and dry comedy features the original cast. It has more explosions, blood, and wall-to-wall action. The fight sequences combine ‘John Wick‘ with ‘Home Alone (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).’ The director found exciting and cringy ways to include a funhouse, waterslide, and ball pit. And Lendina is a quirky villain who lives on bloodlust. This film adds to the franchise, not by expanding the world, but by enlightening the audience to Hutch’s family. This film is an entertaining, mindless good time.
I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars
I sensed that you were having an existential crisis – Harry
Walk them out – Wyatt
This needs a woman’s touch – Lendina

It’s not polite to eyeball the law – Sheriff Abe

Sonny finishes his race, collects his meager winnings, and leaves to find the next challenge. As he washes clothes in a laundry mat, Sonny maps a route to Ensenada for the Baja Race. He hears a voice behind him and sees a familiar face, Ruben. Ruben and Sonny competed in the past, but now Ruben owns a racing team, APXGP. However, APXGP has yet to win a race. If APXGP doesn’t win, the board will remove Ruben. Ruben’s best driver, Joshua, is highly skilled but young. Ruben wants Sonny to join his team and bring maturity to it. Ruben believes that Joshua and Sonny could win F1 and bring credibility to APXGP. Sonny isn’t sure. So Ruben leaves him a first-class ticket to their training track.
Joshua tries out their new car but notices some issues. Sonny arrives as Joshua reports his findings. Joshua’s manager, Cash, pulls him aside. Joshua needs to make a good impression over the next few races. Cash believes APXGP is going down, and the other teams don’t have a place for a new driver. If Joshua ranks on the leaderboard, another team could open up a spot for him. Joshua tells Sonny about the car’s issues before he gets inside. Sonny makes a wager to beat all of Joshua’s times and puts the pedal to the metal. Before he finishes the first lap, Sonny damages the expensive machinery. He thinks the team can win, but they must make changes to the car. Ruben agrees. While Sonny races to overcome his past, Joshua wants to keep his career. Can APXGP survive with two men competing for the number one spot?
This film has the high-octane fun of Days of Thunder with witty banter (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). It pays respect to the intricacies and dangers of racing. The audience sees the split decisions, track sabotage, and teamwork in racing. The film uses F1 drivers and scenarios to increase the drama and urgency. The viewer will feel it in their chest as they get a cockpit view of the track. You will hold onto your seat while the car speeds down the track. The storyline lets the camaraderie between Sonny and Joshua build naturally. However, this film isn’t solely about the race. It also covers espionage and sabotage, but the writers make the audience connect the clues of who is responsible. The script adds an unnecessary love story, increasing the runtime. It slows down the plot and takes the focus off the drivers. While the film is lengthy, it delivers an original competitive racing story.
I give it 4 out of 5 stars
Don’t laugh – Ruben
It’s not about the money – Sonny
It was always my team. – Joshua
