Eddy breaks into his mother’s home to steal clothes to trade for drugs. His mother, Cynthia, catches him. She grabs a gun and threatens him to get clean or leave in a body bag. Cynthia arranges for Eddy to leave Detroit and take a bus to Oakland to live with his Uncle Leon and Aunt Marsha.

Eddy arrives in Oakland, and Leon takes him to an alley filled with people struggling with addiction. However, Leon doesn’t judge because he struggled after serving in Vietnam. Now, Leon is clean and works as a counselor. He wants Eddy to live a fulfilled life, too. Leon has ground rules. Eddy must attend Narcotics Anonymous, stay clean, get a job, and meet curfew. Then, Leon takes a breath and asks Eddy if he’s gay. For the first time, Eddy opens up about his sexuality. Leon hugs Eddy and tells Eddy to live in his truth to assist his recovery.

Two years later, Eddy is clean and desires to attend cosmetology school. But Leon warns Edde not to ignore his social life. Eddy becomes friends with Jihad and Butchie from Narcotics Anonymous. Buckie is out, proud, and loud. He encourages Eddy to do the same. Eddy stands in front of the mirror and decides to go by her first name, Dwen.

Soon, Dwen has steady clients but realizes she earns less than her friends when they can afford All-Star weekend. Dwen’s closeted boyfriend, DJ, calls an ‘airline connect.’ Dwen pays the fee and gets a ticket, but the airline cancels it. Dwen calls the ‘connect’ to understand. The ‘connect’ admits that the credit card holder caught on to the scam and canceled it. In the past, Dwen stole credit cards for drugs. Now, she has access to hundreds of card numbers at the salon. She asks the ‘connect’ what she can get for card numbers. The ‘connect’ offers free airline tickets for life and a cut of the profits. Dwen makes her first step into a world of white-collar crime, high-profile clients, and several business ventures. It leads to a nightmare, self-discovery, and redemption.

This movie is careful not to glorify Dwen’s actions. Everything Dwen does has a negative ripple effect on herself and the people she loves. Her family supported sexual orientation but not her illegal lifestyle. Viewers will see Dwen trade one addiction for another. She substituted drugs with a fast life. Dwen gets a thrill from the crimes and absolves her conscience by buying gifts for loved ones. Your heart will break when Dwen faces her actions for the first time. The judge assigns Dwen to a male prison, where Dwen survives a sexual assault. The plot pulls the audience into Dwen’s struggles while allowing you to laugh at her joy. The costume and make-up teams show Dwen’s growth into a celebrity fashion and style icon. As her confidence grows, she creates better looks for herself and her clients. This story will open your heart to understanding, acceptance, and forgiveness. You will love how this Trap Queen overcame and looked fabulous doing it.
