Don’t Let Him Find You – Review

Don’t Let Him Find You – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Alex and Robert take their daughter, Charlie, to the park for fun and lunch. Alex notices a woman, Mary, in distress. Alex runs over, and Mary says she can’t find her heart medication. Mary stands up and faints. Alex places Mary on the ground while performing CPR, and Robert calls emergency services. Alex’s quick thinking saves Mary’s life. Afterward, Alex, Robert, and Charlie walk toward their car, but a reporter, Jane Chance, stops them. She wants to interview Alex for a human interest story. Alex politely refuses.

Bystanders recorded Alex saving Mary and posted the video on social media. By daybreak, Alex’s story made the news. Then, Alex gets a call from Stuart, a True Crime Blog Unlimited reporter. He knows Alex’s true identity and will reveal it to the world if she doesn’t meet him. Alex asks for time to think, and Stuart gives her 24 hours. Alex pulls Robert aside and tells him the truth. Years ago, Alex’s brother-in-law, Justin, became obsessed with her. Her sister, Ashley, blamed Alex and attacked her with a knife. During the struggle, Alex accidently stabbed Ashley. Instead of calling the police, Ashley ran and changed her name. Now, Alex is a wanted woman.

Alex agrees to meet Stuart, but it must be off the record. She pleads with him not to write about her past because she wants to keep Charlie safe. Stuart relents, but his silence will cost $50,000. Later, Alex scrapes $23,000 together and calls Stuart to meet. But he never shows. Someone murdered Stuart, and Alex is Detective DeAngelis’s number one suspect because Stuart had a draft of the article on his laptop. Alex’s world is caving in, and it gets worse. Jane Chance got Stuart’s recording of his meeting with Alex. Now, she wants an exclusive about Alex’s past. Can Alex clear her name before her past kills her?

Alex has a history of making the worst decisions under pressure. Although she was once a fabulous nurse, she handles others’ strife better than hers. Alex ran from her sister’s stabbing and went on the run. She and Richard consider doing it again. However, it’s harder to run with a family than alone. Also, they chose to keep Charlie in the dark about the situation. Telling the truth would keep Charlie safer than a lie. While Alex’s actions are wild, the motive is crazy. So, viewers should stay for the final monologue. This movie is a fun mystery with irresponsible and impulsive characters.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

Ms. Chance, I don’t want to be interviewed, but I’m flattered – Alex

Deck the Walls – Review

Deck the Walls – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Interior Designer Rose handles another call from a ‘Real Housewife’ client. Then, Rose’s assistant, Libby, tells Rose that her brother, Sal, has called several times. Rose checks her phone and sees Sal is calling again. She picks up, warmly greets him, and reminds him she is not returning for the holidays. She hasn’t come since their parents died.

Sal works with his friend, contractor Brysen. They are renovating a home for a needy family. The mayor, Molly, wants to meet them in her office. They arrive, and she has unfortunate news. The county used the renovation money to fix a mold issue in city hall. Sal and Brysen must finish the home in 10 days without cash. They must finish on time because a local reporter, Jake, will document the progress and story. Sal remembers Jake from school because Jake was his bully. Brysen protected Sal during this turbulent time. Sal and Brysen don’t believe they can finish the job under pressure. Molly mentions having help from donations and Rose. Brysen says no but relents. He doesn’t think Rose will return. Sal calls Rose for help. Rose says no but changes her mind to continue her family’s legacy of kindness.

Rose arrives in town and visits a local café. She opens the door and bumps Brysen, causing him to spill his drink. Neither apologizes but blames the other for the mishap. Brysen sees his ex-wife in the parking lot and makes small talk. She tells Brysen she’s engaged before they part ways. Rose returns to her aunt Gigi’s home. To her surprise, Brysen lives there too. In 10 days, Rose, Sal, and Brysen must overcome their issues to build a house for a deserving family. Can they do it without killing each other?

In this film, ordinary people do extraordinary things. Sal and Brysen have two unknown benefactors, and the community lends a helping hand. Each deals with personal strife during the renovation. Sal has to work with his bully and gains the courage to get to know Jake. Brysen is coping with heartbreak. Rose hasn’t grieved her parents properly, so spending time with Sal and Gigi will put things into perspective. Through healthy and open discussions, they release their fears, comfort each other, and find love. This movie is worth watching, but it won’t be your favorite.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

She wakes up, exits the vehicle, and realizes she is in Milwaukee. Graces says it’s too late to drive Lucy back to Chicago. Grace rolls up the window and drives away. Lucy finds a spare key in a potted plant and lets herself in the house. Her mother, Tina, yells at Lucy for arriving home late but declares they will handle this in the morning. Lucy goes to her room and sleeps.

However, she loses her dream job as she repairs bonds. December 1999 was her first year without her dad. Her mother hides her grief, while her sister keeps her sexual orientation a secret. This movie will stir up your nostalgia but falls in step with other time-traveling holiday films.

Debbie Macomber’s Joyful Mrs. Christmas – Review

Debbie Macomber’s Joyful Mrs. Christmas – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Teenagers Charlotte and Austin promised to spend eternity together before they exchange gifts at the stables. Charlotte gave Austin a book, and he gave her a necklace with an infinity symbol. They left the stable before anyone caught them. Austin’s father, ranch hand Monty, warned Austin to stay away from Charlotte. Charlotte’s grandmother, Vivian, could fire him. Also, they come from two different worlds. He tells Austin to focus on the Navy, not the girl.

Decades later, Austin is the executor of Vivian’s estate. He calls Vivian’s three grandchildren to return to her home. Vivian’s passing left an open seat on the board, and a family member must take it. The successor will be Benedict, Henry, or Charlotte. Austin knows these three aren’t going to get along. They started and tanked a business previously. Now, they resent each other. Austin takes a deep breath and prepares for them.

Benedict kisses his girlfriend, Portia. He wants the seat to build his good name in the business community. Since his last venture failed, other companies won’t give him a chance. He plans to propose if he gets the board seat. Henry meets with shady investors. They want their money and threaten him to recover it. Henry assures them he will get the seat and have access to the cash. He will pay them soon. Charlotte is a divorced mom of Cody. Cody has trouble regulating his emotions, but Charlotte is patient. She left her job as a lawyer to care for Cody. Now that Charlotte is divorced, Charlotte needs work. She wants the board seat to prove to her ex-husband and brothers that she can handle the job.

The siblings return to the house and argue on the front porch until Annie shows up in an antique car. Vivian requested Annie help the family after her passing. Annie gives them a document with Vivian’s signature as proof. However, there is more to Annie than meets the eye. She has a Mary Poppin’s bag, ancient recipes, and a book (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). Can Annie help the three siblings get their life on track before they lose their family’s legacy and each other?

Annie’s chipper demeanor is infectious. She finds inventive ways to bring this family and couple together. One person can see through her: Cody. He knows who Alice is and why she’s there. Each family member has a distinct reason for wanting the board seat. However, their siblings know a reason why they shouldn’t. Charlotte hasn’t worked in years, Benedict is too controlling, and Henry wants money. They need to admit their faults before convincing the others to step down. Based loosely on A Mrs. Miracle Christmas by Debbie Macomber, this movie is delightful and is for the family (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

Christmas Under the Lights – Review

Christmas Under the Lights – Hallmark Mystery – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Emily rests at her LA home after planning another successful launch party. Her friends and co-workers ask Emily if she will go home for the holidays, but she avoids the question. Emily grew up in Meadow Grove on a farm with her mother and brother, Nick. Emily didn’t like the farm because she loved living in the city. However, their mother wanted a change and moved her family. Since 1999, their mother has thrown the Christmas Carnival for the town with a beautiful light show. It was Emily’s favorite. As time went on, Emily came home less frequently.

Nick works on the farm. His friend, Luke, separated from his wife and moved into Nick’s home to get back on his feet. Nick is happy to let Luke stay because he lends a helping hand around the farm. Nick asks if Luke can help with the carnival. This year is the first time he’s hosted the carnival without Nick’s mother. Luke admits he doesn’t know how and wonders if Emily can help. Nick doesn’t think Emily will but gives her a call. She thinks about her past and says yes to honor their mother.

Emily arrives in Meadow Grove and feels like a fish out of water. However, everyone remembers her and asks about LA, dating, and future kids. Emily grabs her coffee and pancakes to go and drives to the farm. She fumbles with her drink and doesn’t see Luke crossing the street. She slams on her brakes, gets out of the car, and yells at him. He blames her for the mishap. They leave, hoping not to see each other again.

Emily and Nick greet each other and talk about the festival. Luke approaches, and Emily gives him a tepid reception. Nick mentions Luke’s last name, and Emily knows him. He is a famous artist known for his work with lights. She asks Nick if Luke would consider working on the light show for the carnival. Nick says no. Luke hasn’t created an art piece since his divorce. Emily feels the mounting pressure of the carnival on her. She wants to maintain her mother’s legacy and redeem herself for missing several Christmases before her death. Emily will work on the carnival and Luke. She wants this carnival to be a celebration of life and lights.

This film handles transition with ease. Emily dreams about her past and what led her to Meadow Grove. She was a city girl forced to leave and live on a farm. Emily ran away several times, and her mother helped her. She grew to like the farm but dreamed of going. Her mother hoped Emily would return and use her degree for the farm. However, Emily left and rarely returned. Now, Emily agonizes over the decision while working to build the carnival and Luke’s confidence. The connection between them is genuine. The audience knows how the relationship will end, but you watch for Luke’s final project.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

‘Slaps’ is good. We love our slaps – Emily

What’s the worst she can say – Luke

Bribery works every time – Taylor

Celeste and her boyfriend, Jason, have 60 minutes before Celeste leaves for her flight. So they speed through Christmas together by exchanging gifts, reading a story, and eating pizza. However, Jason wants more quality time with Celeste during the holidays. Celeste can’t stay because she skipped Thanksgiving with her parents. And Celeste doesn’t have any job prospects. She must regroup and decide the next step in her life. So, Jason will travel to Celeste’s hometown and spend more time with her.

Pastor Mark is putting the finishing touches on the Christmas Festival. Mark’s wife, Judith, wants Mark to get more help. Mark has an assistant, Dean, who assists him with daily tasks. Mark informs Dean that Celeste will return today. Mark had no idea why Dean and Celeste broke up. He arranges for Dean to come to his home after dinner. Mark hopes to rekindle their flame.

Mark stands stunned as Celeste introduces him to Jason. Judith welcomes Jason, and they sit to eat. Mark grills Jason on his relationship with Celeste. They have dated for a few months but are madly in love. Then, Mark mentions the church’s renovations, and Celeste looks glum. She admits she dreamed of getting married in that church. Mark states the church will be there. However, she wanted to wed in the church’s original state with Mark as the officiant. Jason desires to make her dream come true. So, he gets on one knee and asks Celeste to marry him. Celeste says yes and asks Mark to officiate. Mark agrees if they complete his bootcamp. Celeste isn’t worried and looks forward to marrying Jason in 3 weeks. However, Judith thinks Mark has a devious plan. She’s correct. Mark will use the bootcamp to drive a wedge between Celeste and Jason. Will it work?

This movie’s dinner scene is funny and uncomfortable. Mark grills Jason about work, family, and faith. Mark is right to worry because Celeste and Jason have dated for a few months. So, getting married in a few weeks feels rushed. However, the audience sees Celeste in Mark’s eyes. He doesn’t see an adult woman capable of making decisions. He sees an impulsive little girl who won’t listen to him. Mark’s deceitful plan isn’t from concern but lack of respect. Judith is in Celeste’s corner and offers great advice about love and marriage. This movie is sweet but average.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

I was wrinkle-free – Jason

Sincerely Truly Christmas – Review

Sincerely Truly Christmas – Lifetime – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Christina greets her parents, Joni and Steve, when they arrive. Her mother brings items so they can have a traditional family Christmas. Joni has a box of family ornaments. She pulls out a crystal Christmas star. Joni remembers that Christina made a wish on the star when she was a child. Christina recalls those times fondly. Then, Christina remembers her ex-boyfriend, Randy, dumping her on Christmas because she requested a commitment. The holiday magic grows glum.

Christina arrives at work and asks about the upcoming charity festivities. The receptionist informs Christina that the boss is considering pop star Turney. Christina barges into her boss’s office and says Turney is a poor choice because she is soulless and needs autotune. Her boss, Ellie, squirms as she informs Christina that Turney is on speakerphone. Turney hangs up, and Ellie fires Christina.

Christina walks home with a box of office items. She spies an open door and enters the home to warn the occupants. The realtor, Robert, greets her with his spiel. He sees a Dan Corpen record in her box and says he knows the singer. Christina leaves, and Robert gets a call from his friend, Pete. Pete is excited that their clientele is growing. They are moving their business to California, and Pete is ready. However, Robert hasn’t told his son, Oliver, about it. Robert promises Pete that he will inform Oliver. Until the move, Robert vows to make this Christmas the best.

Christina arrives at home and airs her grievances. She notices that the world doesn’t appreciate the truth. Christina walks to the star and makes a wish. She wishes everyone would tell the truth this Christmas. Christina talks to Joni in the kitchen in the morning. Joni blurts out that she wants a sweater for Christmas. Christina ignores Joni’s outburst because Christina has an idea.

Christina travels to her old job, and the receptionist tells her what he wants for Christmas. Christina laughs and finds Ellie. Ellie informs Christina what she wants for Christmas and reminds Christina that they fired her. Christina has a way to get her job back. She will ask Dan Corpen to re-record his famous Christmas song. Dan has been aloof for years. Ellie will give Christina her job back if she can get Dan to sign a deal.

Christina runs to find Robert and asks for an introduction, but Robert reveals Dan is his friend’s sister’s friend. Another person has lied to Christina. When Pete and Robert unveil what they want for Christmas, Christina tells Robert about her new gift. He tries to lie about what he wants but can’t do it. Robert gets an idea. He wants Christina to discover what Oliver wants for Christmas to ensure Oliver has the best Christmas. Robert vows to find Dan for her. They agree. Can Christina get her job back while helping Robert?

This film has an interesting concept because the gift reveals something in the person’s private life. Joni tells Christina that a gift tells you more about the person. Christina uncovers her family and friend’s secret desires. Since desires change, so does Oliver’s wish throughout the plot. The movie has a charming and unique concept but won’t grab your attention. Viewers should save this film if they have two hours to burn.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

How can you fire someone for telling the truth – Christina

Do you always say no to everything – Robert

Right? Who are you again – Oliver

Festival of Trees – Review

Festival of Trees – UPtv – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Jacqueline convenes with her assistant Heather before meeting with John. Jacqueline plans to enter the Festival of Trees auction but needs a corporate sponsor. She presents her designs to John, and he likes them. However, he has to converse with board members before making a final decision. John asks her to leave her portfolio. Jaqueline meets Heather afterward, and they think positively about the meeting.

Later,  Jacqueline gets a call from the Festival committee. They are withdrawing her design. It’s identical to another team’s. The organizer politely accuses Jacqueline of plagiarism. She gives Jacqueline a day to create a new design for the festival. Jacqueline and Heather run to the store for supplies and run into a man, Brandon. Jacqueline assumes Brandon is asking her for help, and she snaps at him. Later, Jaqueline goes to the tree farm for inspiration, and Brandon is there. Heather thinks he’s cute, but Jacqueline sees him as a distraction.

Jacqueline remembers the festival is an auction to benefit the Children’s Health Care. She ventures to the hospital to talk to the kids. A clever girl, Rachel, approaches Jacqueline. Rachel recounts her favorite Christmas memories. Jacqueline creates a new theme for her tree. She will interview all the kids at the hospital and turn their memories into individual ornaments. The organizer loves Jacqueline’s idea and allows her to enter it into the festival.

Later, Jacqueline goes to the tree farm. She doesn’t like Brandon’s attitude and demands to speak to the owner. Brandon goes into the office and comes out with a hat on. He’s the boss. Jacqueline apologizes, and they go on a date. Afterward, Brandon tells someone he loves them on a call. Jacqueline overhears, gets upset, and leaves. She goes to the Children’s Health Care for perspective and finds Rachel. Rachel discusses what she wants after treatment when her dad shows up. Her dad is Brandon. Brandon explains that Rachel was the person he talked to on the phone. Jacqueline realizes her mistake and apologizes. Now, she focuses on winning the competition to gain brand recognition for her design company. However, can she keep her focus when she discovers who stole her original design?

Rachel makes the movie. This sweet child is wise beyond her years and has a zeal for life. It’s no wonder she inspires Jacqueline’s best work. It’s easy for viewers to discover who stole Jacqueline’s original designs, Brandon and Rachel’s connection, and who saves Jacqueline when she breaks her promise. So, those plot points don’t captivate you. Jacqueline’s rival, Alice, is a Disney villain. She’s cold, manipulative, and petty. It’s everything viewers want in their antagonist. This film is sweet but nothing more.

I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars

It’s like Wayne Newton and Hugh Hefner threw up in here – Heather

I like how you say classical elegance rather than old – John

I’m feeling really good about it, thanks – Jacqueline

Somebody’s having a bad day – Brandon

Christmas in the Spotlight – Review

Christmas in the Spotlight – Lifetime – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Singer Bowyn finishes her music video declaring her solo status during the holiday season. Bowyn’s manager, Mira, thinks Bowyn should write a love song but doesn’t bother Bowyn about it. Bowyn had a public break-up with actor Hudson. Now, she wants to be single and stay away from the spotlight. Bowyn leaves to prepare for her concert.

Drew is a wide receiver, and his brother, Rob, is the quarterback. Drew peacefully lives his life in Rob’s shadow. He loves spending time with his niece, Ilene. For Ilene’s birthday, Drew got her two tickets to Bowyn’s concert. He loves Bowyn as much as Ilene.

Drew and Ilene enjoyed the concert and sneak backstage to get a picture. Bowyn takes a photo with Ilene. Then Ilene asks if Drew can get one, too. During the photo, Mira calls Bowyn’s name, and she turns her head. Drew’s image isn’t clear, but he’s happy. Later, Drew posts the picture asking for a date with the singer. Mira notices the post and tells Bowyn. Mira is a football fan and wants to spend a day in the box with Drew and Rob’s family. She tells Bowyn that Drew is a good guy. Bowyn asks Mira to set up a meeting with him.

Bowyn and Drew talked on the phone before their first date. Ilene warns Drew not to mess up. Bowyn sends a limo for Drew and asks him to wear a Santa costume. She didn’t want the paparazzi to find him. They have a blissful date, and both say they aren’t looking for anything serious. Bowyn detests her dating life being a punchline. He agrees to keep their romance casual and secret. Once the news learns about their romance, will it burn brighter under the spotlight or fizzle out?

It’s easy to see that the Swift/Kelce relationship influenced this movie. It has an endearing song and loveable leads. The plot goes below the surface for the characters. Bowyn deals with the media mocking her relationships at her expense. They twist the truth and spread lies. Drew’s brother, Rob, shielded Drew from the spotlight. Drew is the carefree, terminal bachelor, but he wants love. Drew copes with family pressure while dating Bowyn. However, Bowyn has zero connections to her family. She yearns for a familial bond. This film is steamier than most Lifetime holiday stories. So it’s not for the whole family but entertaining.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

That’s just another word for old – Bowyn

On this planet, I gave her a grandchild, and you gave her an ulcer – Rob

Try to keep up – Drew

You will always be that star. Maybe the sky’s not big enough for you. It’s time to shine your light somewhere else – Mira

You are not a goof. You just make bad choices – Ilene
