For Love & Honey – Review

For Love & Honey – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Anthropologist Dr. Austin teaches his class about Jacques De Beauvoir and his writings. Austin came to Malta to start his research about Jacques but hasn’t made significant strides. Austin’s research partner, Michael, warns Austin that he needs to write and submit his research paper in a week. If he doesn’t, Austin must return to the U.S. Also, a tenured professor decided to retire soon. Austin could get the coveted spot if he gets his research approved. Austin waves goodbye to his friend and walks towards the Port Grace Library. He wanders in the street, and a motorcyclist, Eva, dodges to miss him. They blame each other before both leave in a huff.

Eva returns to her apiary and informs her Maltese Honey Bees of her close call with a rude tourist. Her sister, Chloe, interjects with unfortunate news. Chloe didn’t get the promotion. She took time off work and wants to implement ideas to grow their family apiary today. Eva desires to help the protected bees before expanding operations. Then, Chloe alerts Eva to a bee emergency at the library.

Eva arrives at the library, and her friend, Luna, informs her about the new handsome, single doctor. They hear him scream from outside because an unwelcome bee slipped inside. Eva and Austin recognize each other from their encounter. Eva rages when Austin swats the bee. She finds a hole in the window ceil and tapes it close. Eva traps the bee inside a glass with a 400-year-old document. Austin cringes and begs her to be careful with the historical paper. She releases the bee outside to follow it back to its hive. Austin follows her because she has the paper. They find the hive, and Austin pleads for the paper. She promises to return it if he never swats another bee. He agrees, and she hands him the document.

Later, Eva returns to remove the hive safely. Austin sees a painting underneath as she chips away at the bee wall. He discovers a mural that breathes new life into his research. The mayor, Matthew, comes for a closer look. They have a festival coming up, and Matthew wants a marquee event. This finding is it. Eva doesn’t want the wall to distract from the protected bees. She knows stragglers will come looking for the hive and needs to collect them. Austin must protect the wall for his research. Matthew puts them in charge of each other. They must preserve the wall and the bees for the festival and their love.

This sweet movie is about two people who want to preserve history. Eva’s family kept bees for centuries and is part of local legends. She keeps her family intact and saves the Maltese environment and food supply by protecting the insects. Austin wants to uncover lost history. He can conserve the past and help gain awareness of the culture’s start to prosperity. They never thought that they would deeply connect. And watching their passions join them is charming. Of course, they will have obstacles and setbacks along the way. But you never worry they won’t be together at the end. This film is a sweet way to pass the time with your favorite locally sourced honey and tea.

Daddy’s Deadly Secret – Review

Daddy’s Deadly Secret – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Richard and Caroline discuss expanding their family after putting Richard’s daughter, Abigail, to bed. Caroline loves Abigail and wants to have another child with Richard. However, she has difficulty getting pregnant. So, she made an appointment with a fertility specialist in the morning. Also, Richard tells Caroline he is getting his affairs in order after giving his sister, Darla, a restraining order.

Richard and Caroline drop Abigail off at her mother’s home, and Richard speaks with Abigail’s stepfather, Doug. Richard finds Abigail’s mom, Ellie, in the bathroom with puffy eyes. She blames it on allergies and swears that she is taking her medication. Later, Richard and Caroline visit their fertility doctor. Caroline quickly blames herself, but the doctor wants to do more tests.

On the drive home, Caroline sees Abigail cross the street with a group of girls bullying a younger girl. She honks her horn but fails to get Abigail’s attention. The crossing guard, Marianne, introduces herself to Caroline. Marianne confirms Caroline’s fears. Abigail’s new friend group isn’t a good influence. Caroline visits her patient, Beth, at Beth’s home. Beth has intermittent explosive disorder and agoraphobia. Caroline attempts to get Beth to visit her office, but Beth refuses.

Caroline returns home and gets a call from Richard. Abigail didn’t return to Doug and Ellie’s house. Caroline runs upstairs, but Abigail isn’t there either. Caroline and Richard run to Doug and Ellie’s and discuss what to do next. Ellie admits that Abigail’s demeanor is changing. She recently gave Ellie a scratch on her arm when Ellie told her not to spend time with her new friends. Richard’s anger boils over at the revelation, and they call the police. Caroline prays this is the first step to finding Abigail. But it’s the slippery slope to the truth.

This movie has smaller pieces that come together in the end. So those bits need your attention as the plot circles back. The story introduces several characters without explaining their connection to Richard and Caroline until later. It feels like an Agatha Christie novel with a Lifetime scenario (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). Caroline and Ellie have a pivotal and revealing moment, but their crying makes them incomprehensible. So, it’s difficult to understand the antagonist’s ultimate deception. Otherwise, this film is a wild ride with lies, murder, corruption, and greed. It has something for everyone.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars
