While sitting in a courtroom, Melinda is staring daggers at Diana, her ex’s new fiance.  After harassing them for months, the judge decides to strengthen their current restraining order and ordering her to go to anger management counseling.  The judge hopes this will bring new light to Melinda’s circumstance and calm the rage inside of her.  As she sits in the counselor’s office, she recounts meeting, loving, and hating her ex Robert.  Through an affair, a car crash, and lost potential, she has stood by his side.  She was there for every step up and every downfall.  She feels she has sacrificed her body, money, and mind for this relationship.  So when Robert reaps the rewards after years of struggle, she believes she is due.  However, one decision leaves Melinda out in the cold and Diana by his side.

Acrimony is told in 6 chapters (Acrimoney, Sunder, Revail, Bewail, Deranged, and Inexorable).  So, get ready to talk to the screen because you are furious with every decision Melinda makes in each chapter.  She states that her rage is slow and when she erupts, she is 100% dangerous.  She makes this evident at the very beginning of their relationship, but Robert stays.  Robert has a wandering eye with empty pockets and his hand out.  However, he makes this know at the beginning of the relationship, but Melinda stays.  Unlike most relationship movies, this is a movie where everyone is wrong.  Even when they both try to get it right, it’s at the wrong time.  This is one to watch and discuss.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

You can’t negotiate with crazy – Diana

Sorry, at least I didn’t break anything this time – Robert

Lisa (single mom of Julie), Mitchell (helicopter, sports dad of Kayla), and Hunter (absentee father of Sam) met on their daughters’ first day of school.  Their daughters became instant friends, so they tried to be friends too.  Twelve years later, it’s the girls’ prom night.  Even though Sam, Julie, and Kayla have remained friends, the parents have not.  Hunter left after his scandalous divorce.  Lisa has spent more time with her daughter before she heads to college; leaving Mitchell in the cold.  Lisa put together a party before the prom that puts all 3 parents in the same space.  They have some awkward conversations but remain pleasant.  Just when Mitchell and Hunter are about to leave, Lisa sees the girls’ text on Julie’s computer.  Hunter is able to decipher from the emojis that the girls have a sex pact.  While Hunter doesn’t care, Lisa and Mitchell want to end this pact.  Lisa and Mitchell head to the prom to intercept the girls but Hunter is trying to stop them.  This will truly be an unforgettable prom night.

This movie is a mix of Superbad and Bad Moms (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  While each parent is trying to hold on to their “little” girl, they are doing it for different reasons.  Julie has separation anxiety, Mitchell doesn’t want to give up his jock, and Hunter wants to mend his relationship.  And each girl has a reason to lose her virginity.  Julie is in love, Kayla just wants to do it, and Sam is questioning her sexuality.  While the movie’s premise seems to be about losing your virginity on prom night, it’s more about the complicated relationships between parents and daughters in today’s society.  However, it does not shove the sappiness or feminism down your throat.  It provides a good amount of laughs and raunchy fun.  Now be warned, some of the jokes fall flat, like dad jokes, but you will laugh.  So go and have fun at a crazy matinee movie.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

It’s not really a dress, the middle’s missing – Mitchell

Let’s say the chef ate something – Kayla

Caroline “Line” Found is the captain and spirit of the West High School Women’s Championship Volleyball team.  Even with her shy best friend and teammate is Kelley, Line can make friends with any and every one.  Their coach Kathy knows that 1st-time champions are a dime a dozen, but 2nd-time champions are rare.  Especially in a row.  Kathy tells the team their championship was last year and no longer counts.  They need to focus on this year.  Even though they lose their first meet and her mother Evelyn is dying, Line keeps her team in great spirits.  Without her father’s knowledge, Line buys a motorbike and hides it from him.  After a team party, Line car battery dies and she takes her motorbike to visit her mom in the hospital.  Within hours, police are at Mr. Found’s door telling him his youngest child has died.  Before he can truly grieve, he loses his wife too.  The team’s heart is broken and they can’t play.  So they lose or forfeit games.  Kathy looks towards Kelley to get the teams spirit up.  After tryouts, Kelley is chosen as the captain, and they decide to not only play but go after the championship.  To get the champions after their losing streak, they have to win 15 games.  And they only have 15 left.  They will need to Live Like Line in order to be two-time champs.

This is an instant tear jerker.  With the constant threat of losing her mother, it’s powerful to see Line remain strong.  But the strength permeated to everyone who knew her after she died.  It inspired each one to “Live Like Line”.  It’s easy to see how this could have been a story of dual loss but it becomes a story of inspiration.  These young women and Mr. Line come together to honor Line by leaving the legacy she dreamed of before she passed.  And while the credits roll, you will see the defining moments in the film through video of the real moments.  As the fans where T-shirts and sing Sweet Caroline for their fallen player, Line and Evelyn will continue to live on in their hearts and yours (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  Make sure your teen sees this film.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

For 18 years, Madeline “Maddy” Whittier has not left her house because she has Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID).  SCID means her immune system is extremely weak and she is allergic to everything.  She lives in a home where her clothes are irradiated, special air is pumped in, and only 3 people are allowed in (Dr. Whittier – her mother, Nurse Carla, Rosa – Carla’s daughter).  She attends an architecture school online and fantasies about being in the ocean.  One day she looks out the window and sees Olly and his family moving in next door.  They exchange a brief wave but both are interested.  After “silent movie” flirting with the help of a Bundt cake, Olly gives his number to Maddy.  As they text and talk, Maddy pictures them being face to face.  She begs Carla to let her meet Olly in person.  She promises not to touch or kiss him and to stay far away.  At first, Clara says no but later relents.  The two have an instant attraction but keep their distance.  However, when Dr. Whittier finds out, Carla is fired and Maddy gets sick.  Maddy is given a new nurse and put on full lockdown.  Maddy adheres to the rules until she sees Olly’s father hit him.  She runs outside to protect him, but he forces her to go back in.  Later Maddy realizes she was outside and never got to enjoy it.  Now she wants more.  With a credit card, a plane ticket, and Olly by her side, her life will open up to the world and some hard truths.

Based on the novel, Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon, this romance will make you want to read the book (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).   Not because the movie is bad, but because you want to read about what was left out.  It was so good you want to know more about each character.  The most special moments is when they are texting or talking on the phone, but Maddy is imagining them face to face with a special companion in the room.  Also, when they are 100% alone, the two speak, but the subtext is given for what they are thinking is so witty.   The two actors have instant chemistry.  Also, you feel as if you are seeing things for the first time like Maddy.  You are amazed by the ocean, cars, and planes.   This is one to see at matinee prices and in the theater.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

Every day feels exactly the same. Maybe today will be different – Maddy

I do feel sorry for you – Olly

Things are finally getting interesting for you and I am leaving – Rosa

Emily was fired from her job but she doesn’t care because Mike’s (her boyfriend) band is about to take off. She knows the money will pour in for them. But later that day, Mike breaks up with her for 2 reasons. One, she has no ambition in life and two, he wants groupies. Heartbroken, Emily changes her Facebook status to single and her mother Linda is quick to respond, on her wall where everyone can see. She goes to her mother’s home for the night. And after arguing with her brother Jeffrey and not having a friend to go with, she finds her mom’s old scrapbook. Inside the scrapbook are pictures, concert tickets, and plane tickets. She decides to take her mom to Ecuador for a girls trip so her mom can be fun again. On the first day, Emily and Linda meet Ruth and Barb, both are retired special ops. They warn the two to be careful. Of course, Linda listens with confirmation, while Emily ignores them. Then Emily goes to the bar and meets James. He is adventurous and invites her out. They have so much fun, he invites Emily on an outing the next morning. Stumbling drunk, Emily invites her mother. The 3 start off having a good time, but when Emily and Linda are kidnapped and held for ransom, they must learn to get along and get help

Ok, it’s honestly better than expected. There are some genuine laughs and OMG moments. But as the opening credits reveal, these women are more dangerous than their own kidnappers. There are gross moments to offset the sappy ones and funny moments to offset the serious ones. You will not forget the moment with the tapeworm. While this isn’t best work for Amy or Goldie, it’s still a fun time at the movies. If your mom can handle sex humor, breast, an adult magazine, and death, this is the movie. But only for the matinee price.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

Amanda Walker sees meta-humans, like Superman, as the world’s biggest threat to it’s future.  She decides to assemble a group of bad guys, not just because they are bad, but because she has leverage on each of them to keep them in line.

  1. Deadshot – expert assassin that does not miss but will do anything for his daughter
  2. Harley Quinn – Joker’s leading lady, former therapist gone bad
  3. Killer Croc – guy with a skin condition that adapted to the sewer
  4. Slipknot – Assassin with a skill for climbing
  5. Diablo – Telepathic pyromanic with deadly rage issues
  6. Boomerang – Robbed every bank in Australia with an amazing weapon of choice

Amanda uses Col. Rick Flag, who is in love with Dr. June Moone, and Katana, master of the blade, to keep focus.  And if any of them try to escape, they will be destroyed with the push of a button.  Amanda believes she has everything under control until the Enchantress, the witch that possess Dr. Moone, crosses her and brings back the spirit of her brother.  The Enchantress is angry that humans stop worshipping her and trapped her and her brother in dolls.  She wants to destroy humans for their betrayal.  Amanda summons the Suicide Squad to destroy the enchantress, destroy her brother, and save anyone inside.  Now we have seen how good guys do it, but now let’s with the bad guys can do.  Let’s not forget, there is always a Joker in the deck.

This movie is a good time for all.  It never gets dull by keeping the action going.  Now some characters are more flushed out then others.  But no worries.  There will be a sequel to this well executed super hero … super villain movie.  The end is a little hard to swallow, because they did so much good, but they are bad guys.  So, the movie’s ending is realistic.  Some of the jokes are LOL (you know you should laugh but don’t) and some of the action is a bit cartoonish, but that is to be expected.  This movie is worth seeing for full price and 3D.  Stay past the mid-credits but don’t stay past the end crawl.  You may even want to see this twice.

I give this 4.5 out of 5 stars

If you have to choose between me or her, stop her. Stop her. Even if it kills me – Dr. June Moone

Not me shorty. I’m beautiful – Killer Croc

He looks like a monster, they treat him like a monster, so he became a monster – Amanda Walker

You’re ruining date night – Harley Quinn

Mac and Kelly get great news, they are going to have a second child. So, they decided to sell their home and buy a bigger one. They find buyers but learn they are in escrow. However, their new home is not in escrow because they wanted their realtor “to do whatever it took to buy it”. So, as long as their buyers don’t have any concerns and back out in 30 days, their home will be sold. Otherwise, Mac and Kelly will have 2 mortgages and 2 children. On the other side of town, Shelby, a freshman, learns that only fraternities can throw parties on campus. She attends the party but hates that they are disgusting and sexist. She gets together with Beth and Nora and decides to start a sorority off campus and have the parties they want to attend. Step one in their plan is get a house. At first the girls don’t know how they can pull it off, but they get help from an unlikely house mother, Teddy. Teddy is still bitter that he has a police record, which is keeping him from getting a good job and he blames Mac and Kelly. So he works with the girls to get a house for their sorority, Kappa Nu. Guess where they decided to move. That’s right. Next to Mac and Kelly. Remember the 30 day escrow? Mac and Kelly beg the girls to keep it down just for 30 days but when the girls don’t listen, the Neighbor Wars start again. Who will be the last house standing?

Although the exposition is the same, this is a different movie. However, you will need to see the first movie, Neighbors, to understand Teddy’s need for revenge, airbag jokes, and “Bros before Hoes” (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). This movie isn’t better than the first … it’s not worst than the first. It’s just as good. The fans of the first movie will not be disappointed. It is definitely a matinee movie when you need a good, easy laugh. These girls are sugar and spice and nothing nice … they really give the frat boys, in part 1, a run for their money.

I give this 3.5 out of 5 stars

OMG, like Cory and Topanga – Nora

There is no such thing as reverse sexism, Mr. White Man – Dean Carol Gladstone

Kate and Maura Ellis are loving, fun, and different sisters.  Then, they are blindsided because their parents decide to sell their childhood home and give the girls 24 hours to get their stuff.  After reminiscing, the girls meet the future owners (whom the girls hate) and decide to throw a huge party.  However, this time the girls switch roles.  The safe sister, Maura, will cut loose and get crazy.  The party sister, Kate, will sit back and take care of everyone.  And as the party ensues Kate’s secrets, past classmates, drug dealers, and Maura’s secrets collide.

This movie is a great laugh-a-minute comedy.  It mixes Pitch Perfect, Bridesmaids, and Project X into one big party.  With most Tina and Amy movies, Sisters is a SNL reunion with Maya Rudolph and Rachel Dratch. Like in Trainwreck, John Cena knocks it over the ropes as Pazuzu, the drug dealer with an interesting safe word.  Its easy to miss a joke because you are laughing so hard at the last one. This is not a chick flick, but a pure comedy and a great date movie.  There is about 10 minutes of mushiness but the laughs are still there.

I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars

I am not a hot head. I am brassy – Kate
