Yes, I Do – Review

Yes, I Do – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Yes, I Do

Charlotte starts to itch as her fiance James talks about their upcoming wedding.  After she left him at the altar twice, he knows her scratching is a bad sign.  Since he worked hard planning the entire wedding himself, he can’t stand it when Charlotte ask to push it back.  So he cancels their engagement.  While she still breaks out at the thought of weddings, she is miserable without James.  So she asks her friend Hanna to help her plan a wedding for her and James in 30 days.  James tells her he MAY show up if she goes through with it.  Meanwhile, Charlotte enters into a chocolate competition with a New York storefront as a grand prize run by Nicole who publishes Chocolate Monthly.  Charlotte is ecstatic until James sees Nicole.  Nicole is James’s ex before Charlotte.  Now with a sweet smile, Nicole is determined to get James back.  While Charlotte is planning their wedding, maybe.

This movie is a true break from the Hallmark mold.  It is a fresh storyline with all the laughs, rivalry, and love you want.  Also, this movie is the true definition of “shade”.   These women will throw underhanded, backhanded, double-crossing jabs at each other.   No matter the cost or who it hurts.  While watching this story, you will only have sympathy for one person: James.  He is being pulled in 2 directions by two women who took him for granted.  This story proves you always want what you can’t have.  Watch this movie with a glass of wine, popcorn, and the record button on.  You will want to watch again.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars

A Night to Regret – Review

A Night to Regret – Lifetime – 2 hours and 0 minutes

A Night to Regret

Chelsea Bilson is a budding director and works hard to get money for her movie.  But all her hard work is met with being dumped by her boyfriend, so she decides to have a girls night out.  She and her friend Sara hang at the bar when they see Chelsea’s old friend Milla.  Milla was kicked out of school and ran off.  So Chelsea is happily surprised to see her and see she is doing well.  The girls drink, laugh, and party.  When Sara leaves, Chelsea and Milla go back to Milla’s place.  Chelsea finds out how Milla is making money these days.  She is a webcam girl.  As Milla, Chelsea, and several other friends sit around men watch and pay for them to do things.  On man is Jake Peters.  Jake was recently released from jail and has killed before.  And he has his target set on Chelsea.  He pays $200 to see her dance. Chelsea can’t believe she made $200 for nothing and considers creating her own channel.  That one decision will lead to several dead bodies, some kidnappings, and one night to regret.

Ten years ago, this movie would have seen far-fetched but with the boom of social media turning into social stalking this movie is all too real.  Now if you are looking for crazy, this movie kicks it up a notch with a dead body in the first 20 minutes.   Also, no one is “too naive” however they do make mistakes.  As soon as they see the error of their ways, they fix it quickly.  In addition, the cops aren’t useless.  They follow the leads and carry a suspension for everyone.  It’s nice to see this change in a Lifetime film.  This movie is a good way to kill 2 hours.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

Just life – Milla

I love you. I want to marry you – Jake

She always “Thelma and Louise”s me – Chelsey

Wedding March 4: Something Old, Something New – Review

Wedding March 4: Something Old, Something New – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Wedding March 4: Something Old, Something New

Olivia and Mick try to get some time away and work on their relationship when they are derailed by an antsy bride named Amy.  Amy believed she knew what she wanted to make her big day perfect.  But as she spends time with her soon to be sister-in-law Kelsey, she starts to doubt herself.  Mick tries to handle all the bride’s changes but soon loses control.  And to make matters harder, Olivia becomes preoccupied with her newly engaged daughter’s wedding.  Even though its a year away, Olivia makes plans for her daughter’s wedding.  And her daughter’s head starts to spin.  She knows she has to rein her mother in before Olivia goes too far, too soon.  With Olivia already planning her daughter’s wedding, Mick tries to handle the load for Amy’s wedding.  But as the bride changes the dress, location, and flowers, Mick starts to crack under the pressure.  Mick has to pull it together so Amy can have the wedding of Kelsey’s dreams and Olivia can plan the wedding of her dreams for her daughter.

This Hallmark movie is all about communication between loved ones.  Whether it’s mother/daughter, lovers, or in-laws, communication is key.  Everyone is trying to spare each other’s feelings but its only making matters worst.  Once Amy has a real conversation with her husband-to-be and his family, everything is put into place.  It takes different events for each relationship to come to that point but they all do and it works out.   While this isn’t the best movie in the Wedding March series, it’s still a good stepping stone in the collection.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

Home Invasion – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Home Invasion

Every 12 minutes a home is invaded.  And as home invasions go up, criminals are performing them during a different time of the day to throw off suspension.  While Chloe spends another night wondering where her husband is, she is visited by her friend Alice.  Chloe explains she is trying her best to make a good life for her step-son Jacob with no help from his recently absent father.  As the ladies talk and sip, there is a knock at the door.  Alice checks the door and is shot.  Chloe quickly locks the door and calls 911.  She grabs Jacob and hides.  She starts to talk to her security company to dispatch help.  With her high tech house, her security professional Mike is the eye in the sky.  Chloe believes help is on the way soon.  However, with a record rainstorm, closed bridge, power outages, and disconnected phone lines, Chloe and Jacob may not make it through the night.

Be prepared to be on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.  This movie starts with the start of the home invasion.  But cuts to 6 hours earlier to help you understand the family dynamic between Jacob, Chloe, and her husband.  While this does take a little time to explain, it’s 100% worth it.  You can feel your panic rise as Chloe tries to remain still and quiet.  When she is disconnected from Mike, you start to get nervous.  And the end will leave you wanting a part 2.  Lifetime pay attention: THIS IS HOW SUSPENSE IS DONE!

Wedding March 3: Here Comes the Bride – Review

Wedding March 3: Here Comes the Bride – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Wedding March 3: Here Comes the Bride

While Mick and Olivia’s relationship is still in limbo, Mick is flabbergasted when his sister Bonnie comes to the Inn with big news.  She is getting married to a guy she has known for 8 months. If that isn’t shocking enough for Mick, she is marrying his former bandmate Sean.  Sean left the band high and dry years ago, leaving a bad taste in Mick’s mouth.  Olivia tells Mick to give them a chance but Mick is steadfast in his feeling that this is a huge mistake.  And to make matters harder for Mick, Julie wants to leave school and go to culinary school.  While Julie is solely focused on changing her father’s mind, he doesn’t see Wyatt falling apart.  It will take some flowers and some heart-to-heart talks to bring this family together.

This movie focuses more on Mick’s relationship with his family.  He treats is sister more like a daughter because he took care of her after their father died.  Meanwhile, his daughter is growing up faster than he wants.  So he has to handle a lot of complicated relationships at the same time.  While this movie does stand on its own, seeing the other movies will help you understand the complicated past of Olivia and Mick.  This movie is good, however, seeing Mick’s expression to Julie’s dress up will leave you laughing until it hurts.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

The Wrong Nanny – Review

The Wrong Nanny – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

The Wrong Nanny

Blake finally got information on her biological mother Stella.  Stella gave her up for adoption when she was born and Blake wants to see her.  Blake discovers that Stella is looking for a nanny and applies for the position with fake references.  When Blake gets the nanny position for Stella’s twin boys (Blake’s half-brothers), Blake keeps her identity a secret.  She is happy playing the ‘god sent’ for Stella until she sees Stella acting as a mother to another teenage girl.  When Blake facade cracks a cop will be down, children will be lost, and a shot will be taken.

Oh, this one is just too good.  Watch it with the lights on and double check your nanny.  You will jump and yelp doing certain parts of the movie.  And watch until the end for an extra creepy moment.   Any Lifetime movie that has a death within the first 2 minutes, has a great chance of being a watchable movie.  And this one takes the cake.  Seeing Blake go from sweet to ‘bat crap’ crazy is oddly satisfying.  This is definitely one to watch, DVR, and keep.

Psycho Brother-In-Law – Review

Psycho Brother-In-Law – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Psycho Brother-In-Law

With her husband Eric working long hours, Kate is starting to feel lonely and overlooked.  She is supportive of Eric’s ambitions, she just misses her attentive husband.  She is not sure what to do.  One day Kate opens the door and sees David, her brother in law.  She is stunned by his appearance but happy to see him.  Eric, on the other hand, is not.  The brothers have unresolved issues, so when Eric learns that Kate has asked David to stay, he is upset.  The brothers attempt to patch things up for Kate’s sake.  Soon, David is going on Kate and Eric’s date nights as Eric’s stand-in.  The two are seen around town so often that people are wondering if they are having an affair.  But when Kate and her daughter Laura start noticing David’s weird behavior, they wonder if he is truly dangerous.

Inspired by actual events, you can summarize what will happen just by the title.  You know the brother-in-law will be crazy, it’s a matter of how much.  You will find yourself wondering 3 things:

  1. When will David snap
  2. How many will be killed
  3. Is this really the end

This movie really doesn’t break any ground on Lifetime.  While an Oscar-worthy performance isn’t required, it needs a good script in order to create a good movie.  The script was subpar and the actors did their best.  This movie can be skipped.

I give it 2 out of 5 stars

Fatherly Obsession – Review

Fatherly Obsession – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Fatherly Obsession

Alyssa has moved into her new apartment and the superintendent Robert his happy to help with all her needs.  She starts to make friends in the building, working on her comedy routine, and even meets a guy.  Everything is going well but she starts to get strange text messages and Robert has entered her home without her consent.   Being a past stalking victim, Alyssa puts Robert on notice about her issues with privacy.  He apologizes and smoothes things over, she accepts his apology.  As the days go on, Alyssa learns Robert has been telling a lot of lies and she cuts him off.  But when her friend says it was a misunderstanding, Alyssa agrees to meet with Robert.  This is the worst mistake she will ever make.

Super creepy is the only way to describe this movie.  Seeing that Robert’s infatuation with Alyssa isn’t sexual but fatherly is extremely unnerving.  But it does shine a light on different forms of stalking.  Some forms of stalking have little to no sexual component.  Also, this movie kicks it up a notch by using virtual reality glasses.  All movies have shown the killer looking at a monitor to stalk their victims but with the VR Glasses Robert can sit down next to her on the couch.  It is just the right touch of creepy to make this movie exciting.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

Josie finally has her flower shop running smoothly and is considering expanding.  She doesn’t know how she will do it until her ex-husband Michael walk into her store.  She is uneasy about his unwelcome visit but agrees to have a work lunch with him.  As a silent partner, Michael states he wants to franchise her business.  She agrees but worries his wife will have an issue.  Michael explains that he and Laura are separated and close to a divorce but she is not taking it well and attacked him.  When Josie suggests calling the police, Michael won’t consider it.  He believes she needs help, not handcuffs.  However as the days go on Michael is poisoned, Laura is stalked, and someone is shot.   For Josie, this will end with a bang, but not the one she thought.

With an opening scene of a crazy wife with a golf club, you can understand Michael’s unease with this his estranged wife Laura.   This is how your roller coaster ride will start.  And this is definitely a roller coaster in the best way.  You go up and down while second-guessing yourself along the way.  This confusion makes this movie a good watch even though the storyline isn’t the most original.

When Calls the Heart: The Christmas Wishing Tree – Hallmark – 1 hour and 30 minutes

When Calls the Heart: The Christmas Wishing Tree

Jack has been away for 6 months and Elizabeth is missing him every second of the day; she teaches her students about a wishing tree.  Each person puts a wish on the tree and another person tries to grant it.  If the wish cannot be granted, then the tree’s magic powers will grant the wish.  Rosemary and Abigail do everything the can to convince Elizabeth to put a wish on the tree.  She believes it’s selfish to wish for Jack while he is doing important work.  And like Elizabeth, the town will expose some pain while asking for a wish.  Now Hope Valley will have to come together to help heal each other for the holiday season.

Based on the novel When Calls the Heart by Janette Oke, this movie is a great start to the new season.  And you don’t have to be a “Heatie” to watch.  You learn enough about each character to get you invested and watch the regular program.  The standout is definitely Rosemary.  She is a flower in a hurricane; beautiful and strong.  But when her husband takes off time from the mill for the holidays, she meets her match.  Watch this movie with the whole family.

When Calls the Heart Christmas

A great storm hit the town of Hope Valley and several people lost their homes. Elizabeth promised those stranded that they will have homes built by Christmas, which is in 7 days. Also, Elizabeth is heading the Christmas Committee and told the children there were be a Nativity Play, Christmas Fest, and toys for all. But with derailed trains, rotting wood, and a bitter mayor, Elizabeth’s dream Christmas is falling apart.

Serving as the 4th season’s 1st episode, this is a great intro for new watchers. It has all the drama of a soap opera and the comedy of a sitcom with a dash of Christmas magic. Be prepared to see shade and sip some tea with a great deal of laughs and warmth.  This is just a feel good movie with a scrooge and a fairy godfather. This is a must see for hearties, hallmark fans, and new comers.
