Her father was found murder and police have no leads.  After a year, Natalie decided law school was too much pressure and she staying home to party and drink.  After a booze-soaked night, Natalie and her mother have a huge fight.  Natalie decides to move out after she sleeps off her drinks.  The next morning, Natalie walks downstairs to see he home ransacked and her mom’s body on the floor.  With an argument, condensation, and noisy neighbors, Natalie will end up in handcuffs and wonder what she did that night.

As Shelby and Natalie sit in a bar, they go over the suspects.  They even name themselves suspects.  So it’s easy to see how the viewer will get tripped up.  Now, understand this is a mystery with a small body count.  If you are looking for the “friendly psycho” stories with a death every 15 minutes, this isn’t the movie for you.  This is a murder mystery with several suspects and a twist at the end.  Give it your full attention so you can keep up with every intense moment.

The Wrong Daughter

After a failed IVF treatment, Joseph will do anything to make his wife Kate smile.  So he goes on the internet and finds the daughter she gave up for adoption 16 years ago.  The young girl is named Danica and Kate is surprised to learn she was never adopted by the loving couple she left Danica to after giving birth.  With 8 rough drafts, Kate finally messages Danica and in a few moments, Kate is shocked and elated to have Danica write back.  Danica says she wants to see her too and has been looking forward to this day.  Kate arranges to meet Danica at Kate’s new restaurant and get to know each other.  However, Kate doesn’t know that Danica is really Samantha.  Samantha is a volatile young woman with attachment issues that lies, cheats, steals, and kills to keep anyone in her life.  And she has stolen the real Samantha’s laptop and pretends to be her to get a new mother.  Now Samantha will happily be Danica to keep Kate in her life … and only Kate.

This thriller follows “The Wrong” movie series to a tee.  With the unsuspecting loving parent, the nosey friend, and the crazily attached person, it’s easy to see where this movie is going.  You sit and wonder how long it will take for Kate to see what her best friend Melissa realized from the moment she saw Samantha.  Joseph and Kate make it all too easy for Samantha to weave herself into their lives.  So its only fitting they end up with the wrong daughter.  If you are a fan of “The Wrong” series, sit back and enjoy.  Otherwise, this is background noise.

I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars

The Lost Wife of Robert Durst – Review

The Lost Wife of Robert Durst – Lifetime – 2 hours and 2 minutes

The Lost Wife of Robert Durst

Kathie moves into her first apartment and is ready to start her new life.  While rushing to work, she bumps into Robert Durst.  They exchange “pleasantries” and walk away.  However, the next day, Robert ask her out on a proper date.  The two hit it off and work in his health food store.  But Robert and Kathie must leave that life behind because Robert’s father will cut him off.  Robert needs his father’s money, without it, he is nothing.  Unhappy, Robert works in his father’s company but he starts turning on Kathie.  When she gets pregnant, he says no.  When she wants a job, he says no.  When she wants a divorce, he says no.  Now Robert walks into a police station and says “My wife is missing”.  These 4 words will spark a mystery over decades with several deaths, millions at stake, a court trial, and one man at the center of it all.

“It’s sad because it’s true” is an understatement for this movie.  As you watch, you will believe you are watching Robert devolve.  However, he is the same man he has always been.  In reality, you are seeing Kathie’s awareness of Robert slowly developing.  As she learns about his past, lies, and ticks, she realizes he is dangerous and should be feared.  The actors did an amazing job of becoming their characters.  Walks, ticks, and tone & pattern of speech were done with amazing precision.  Costumes and set designs played perfectly with each scene to take you back to the 70s and 80s.  This is one to watch and record so you can use it as a teaching tool.  To continue viewing the fall of Robert Durst, watch The Jink (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).

Flint – Review

Flint – Lifetime – 2 hours and 2 minutes

With water turning dark and smelling bad, residents in Flint, Michigan think these are isolated incidents. Nayyirah Shariff, an activist, has worked to help the community by offering youth programs.  However, she has closed her program due to lack of funding. Melissa Mays is a rocker mom with 2 sons. When she took her son to be examined, she had a seizure in the waiting room. Her list of ailments is a mile long. LeeAnne Walters is a stay-at-home mom of 2 boys. Her sons developed rashes, are having a hard time focusing on school, and are getting sick regularly. Iza Banks is developing rashes but her daughter Adina is her biggest concern. Adina is pregnant and the father doesn’t have a job. With everything going on, Adina miscarries her baby.  She spends her time blaming herself. When these ladies get a letter in the mail, it changes their lives for generations to come.

Most of these women did not want to become an activist, they simply wanted answers.  But when their pleas for help, understanding, and change go ignored, they band together to fight.  Watching this will turn your stomach as these women and men uncover the truth about the Flint water switch.  They will learn that government safety regulations were never enacted, samples were taken improperly, and money was put above the health and well-being of children.  While this ends on a high note, it’s a somber note.  The work needed to bring Flint back will take years, even decades.  This story of Flint will affect it’s Flintstones for generations to come.

Darrow & Darrow – Review

Darrow & Darrow – HMM – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Darrow & Darrow

Claire Darrow has followed the steps and appetite of her father.  She has become a lawyer for the hardest cases, seeking justice.  While she is not concerned about the money, she enjoys her job.  And like her father, before the closing arguments of a case, she visits Dave’s donut shop.  Her father never lost a case if he got a donut and Claire is keeping the tradition alive.  After a case, Claire’s world is rocked by three events.  First, her estranged mother Joanna is in town.  Second, her brilliant daughter is having a hard time fitting in with the other kids in school.  Third, Dave is arrested for robbing a jewelry store.  Claire wants to help her daughter but not alert her mother and save Dave.

This is a good mystery with 2 subplots.  While the subplots are separate, they help shape Claire’s character as a mother and a daughter.  And having her mother present, allows her to talk about her deceased father and established her pride in his good works.  It’s fun to unravel the mystery along with Claire.  The legal jargon won’t go over your head and it’s fun from beginning to end.  So, keep your eyes and ears open.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

A Harvest Wedding – Review

A Harvest Wedding – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

A Harvest Wedding

Sarah Bloom runs Love and Bloom Events.  She loves making people’s wedding dreams a reality.  She interviews with Payton for a famous wedding magazine but learns they don’t except a planner’s first submission.  Sarah is hurt but focuses on making her next wedding great so the magazine will cover it.  Then, Sarah meets a new bride Abby.  Abby and Tom just got engaged.  However, Tom is about to be deployed.  So they want to get married: in 2 weeks!!! Sarah is worried until she learns that she and Tom are from the same town the couple wants to have the wedding.  As soon as she sees Tom, Sarah remembers she dated his brother Dave in high school.  Even though she wonders about Dave, she is solely focused on completing a wedding with 40 guests, during harvest season, with an antsy groom, kitchen fire, and a six-page list of demands from Abby’s mother in 2 weeks.  And if Sarah wasn’t overwhelmed enough, Payton heard about the wedding and decided to document it for the wedding magazine: no matter the outcome.  With everything resting on Sarah, only one person can help her learn to relax.

The first hour is slow, but it picks up after.  This is when the couple is on edge, locations are changing, and everything else is falling apart.  You wonder how Sarah will make it all work.  Now, this movie does differ because the couple acknowledges they love each other but determine they are better apart.  Since they do not fall in love immediately, it gives the story something extra.  So DVR this movie had fast forward through the 1st hour.  You will enjoy it from there.

I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars
