The Wrong Daughter – Lifetime – 2 hours and 0 minutes

The Wrong Daughter

After a failed IVF treatment, Joseph will do anything to make his wife Kate smile.  So he goes on the internet and finds the daughter she gave up for adoption 16 years ago.  The young girl is named Danica and Kate is surprised to learn she was never adopted by the loving couple she left Danica to after giving birth.  With 8 rough drafts, Kate finally messages Danica and in a few moments, Kate is shocked and elated to have Danica write back.  Danica says she wants to see her too and has been looking forward to this day.  Kate arranges to meet Danica at Kate’s new restaurant and get to know each other.  However, Kate doesn’t know that Danica is really Samantha.  Samantha is a volatile young woman with attachment issues that lies, cheats, steals, and kills to keep anyone in her life.  And she has stolen the real Samantha’s laptop and pretends to be her to get a new mother.  Now Samantha will happily be Danica to keep Kate in her life … and only Kate.

This thriller follows “The Wrong” movie series to a tee.  With the unsuspecting loving parent, the nosey friend, and the crazily attached person, it’s easy to see where this movie is going.  You sit and wonder how long it will take for Kate to see what her best friend Melissa realized from the moment she saw Samantha.  Joseph and Kate make it all too easy for Samantha to weave herself into their lives.  So its only fitting they end up with the wrong daughter.  If you are a fan of “The Wrong” series, sit back and enjoy.  Otherwise, this is background noise.

I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars

A Dangerous Date – Review

A Dangerous Date – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

A Dangerous Date

Peter is a widowed, divorce attorney with a daughter named Julie.  He is happy spending time with her and working.  However, Julie wants him to start dating and ask him to sign up for a dating site.  After some time he meets Alexis.  Alexis is a strong, smart surgent with bad luck in the dating scene.  However, she and Peter feel the spark immediately and end up in bed.  Peter doesn’t know that Alexis has been watching their family for years and has stalked her way back into his life.  She is relentless in her pursuit of Peter but the motivation behind her persistence will leave you astonished.

This movie has a very slow start to set up Peter and Julie’s relationship and his search for a new love.  This is a starch contrast to the fast pace that Alexis falls in love.  Julie plays the bratty but wise college student but this is typical behavior of high school student.  So its hard to take her seriously.  While the middle some great moments, you may become disinterested before you see it.  So leave this movie as background noise for the first 30 minutes, then give it your attention.

I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars

Well, maybe I am just saving myself for someone special – Alexis

Are you always this aggressive – Peter

Twin Betrayal – Review

Twin Betrayal – Lifetime – 2 hours and 4 minutes

Twin Betrayal

Jess is in the middle of a messy divorce and custody battle with her husband Lars.  She is happy to have a work conference to attend in order to get away from it all.  At the conference, she meets a kind stranger straight out of her cowboy fantasies.  Everything seems to be great until the next morning.  Her sexy cowboy admits she was hired by Lars to catch her on tape having sex with a stranger and taking drugs.  She has one week to get $70,000 or he will give the tape to her husband.  Jess knows she will lose her son if Lars gets a hold of the tape.  So, she asks her father for the money and he gives her a swift and firm no.  Then she learns her estranged, identical twin sister Ally is in town.  Jess’s best friend Maddy tells her that Ally looks well off.  So Jess goes to Ally for the money.  Ally doesn’t have it but she offers to help trap the cowboy.  But if Ally helps Jess, Ally makes it know she wants something in return.  When Ally calls in her favor, Jess will end up in jail, her father will be dead, and she will need to ask Lars for help.

Get ready to have your head spin.  Just when you believe you have a handle on what’s happening, you are completely thrown off guard.  This movie has so many WTF moments, you will not be able to look away or trust anyone.  The ending leaves you with a question and hoping for a part 2.  The lead actress does an amazing job separating the twins into their own distinct personalities, speech patterns, and gestures.   You can even see the change as Jess pretends to be Ally and vice versa.  It’s a great and difficult dynamic that she pulls off flawlessly.  DVR this movie and watch it twice.  See if you can keep up and have your good wine ready.

I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars

I saw a beautiful damsel in distress and I decided to impress her. That’s the way we do things here in Texas – Gordon

Once Upon a Prince – Review

Once Upon a Prince – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Once Upon a Prince

Newly single Susanna is looking to get her life started.  She wants to be a landscaper but works in her parents’ floral shop to help them out and make ends meet.  While on a delivery, she gets a flat tire.  Nate pulls over to help her out and they hit it off.  The two start to date but don’t realize they are being followed and photographed.  When Nate learns of the photos he quickly puts an end to their sale.  He knows the photos will cause a scandal because he is a Prince and next in line to the throne.  It doesn’t take long for word to get back to the Queen.  She orders Nate home immediately and tells him to find a suitable woman to propose to at his coronation.  And Susanna, a commoner, is not suitable.  The Queen thinks Susanna is nice but they must follow tradition.  However, Nate only has eyes for Susanna.  So the Queen comes up with a plan.  Invite Susanna over and show Nate that she is not ready to be a member of the monarchy.  When Nate sees her crumble under pressure, he will get over her.

Based on the book Once Upon a Prince by Rachel Hauck, this has a slow start that is saved by a conniving Queen (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  With the recent royal/commoner weddings, this movie doesn’t feel like a fairy tale but a true possibility.  However, this movie just doesn’t grab your attention with the lead characters.  It’s just not a relationship you root to go the distance.  Since the leads aren’t exciting, the Queen must deliver.  While she is cunning, it’s just not enough to make you believe the relationship is at risk. Since you know how the movie will end, the plot must be strong.  This movie’s plot is just decent.  Use this movie as background noise.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

Public relations. What do you do – Nate

Ungodly Acts – Review

Ungodly Acts – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Ungodly Acts

On a playground, the body of Melissa Cooper is found.  It appears to be a suicide until the murderer, Adam, comes forward.  Adam is a member of the Church of the Blessed Life sect.  This sect is run by Daniel Cooper.  Daniel started the sect while in college. He meets Melissa and they both prayed together. Then Melissa met Adam and he admits to hearing voices and an exorcism is performed. But this small following wasn’t enough will only a few hours to commit wasn’t enough.  Soon Daniel asks his followers to devote themselves fully by dropping out and moving to a farmhouse. Some left but most stay. They start to live in the farmhouse and have a great community until someone ticks off Daniel. Those who have “wrong” Daniel are excommunicated in the farmhouse for months at a time.  Later Daniel starts to talk about end days and readies them for the apocalypse by fasting, running drills, and praying constantly. But it’s what he does in private that is the most revealing. So the police are left with one question, did Adam act alone when he killed Melissa?

Inspired by true events, this is the sad tale of “the road to hell is paved with good intentions”.  While everyone in this group believes they are doing the right thing, they are falling for a sociopath.  Daniel is quick to anger and jealous of his followers’ relationships, studies, and hobbies.  He uses God as a means to control his followers.  While others can see this is a cult, most within can not.  This film is a cautionary tale to anyone seeking something without knowing who they really are in the world.  It’s not the best Lifetime drama, but still a good watch.  DVR and watch when you have time.

My Daughter is Missing – Review

My Daughter is Missing – Lifetime – 2 hours and 0 minutes

My Daughter is Missing

Sara decides to visit her daughter while attending a cybersecurity conference. Her level of expertise is admired by all in attendance. And not just her hacking skills, but her lock picking skills too. She is quickly courted by Stefan to join his police force but turns him down since she will only be in the country for a short while. During this time, she meets up with her daughter Karissa and Karissa’s friend Laura. Later, Sara wants to see her daughter again but Karissa politely says no because she wanted to go clubbing with Laura. The girls are having fun until Laura gets sick. A man tries to pull her off the dance floor but Karissa steps in and takes her to the bathroom. While helping Laura, Karissa calls her mom to tell her about the situation. She promises to call her mom after they get home. But when the call never comes, Sara goes to investigate. After seeing a smashed phone and getting no answers from the club owner, Laura starts to investigate and gets arrested. At the police station, Stefan offers no help or reassurance, but she does meet Alek. Her best friend, for now.

It takes a moment for the crazy to start, but that’s a good build up for the story. It allows you to know Sara’s profession, her love for her daughter, and Sara’s ex’s history. It lays the foundation for her willingness to fight at all cost. The moment she realizes her daughter gone and she has no help, she cries for 2 minutes then goes into fight mode. While she does make mistakes, it’s usually in the heat of the moment and supplies good results. However, her knowledge of hacking and cyber security comes in handy at every turn. You start to wonder, is this possible. And if the panic of a missing teen in a foreign country is not enough for you, she has to deal with trust issues. She is not sure if she can trust the Stephan, the police officer, or Alek, the detective. Both say the other can’t be trusted and both act sketchy. Have fun unraveling this mystery with Sara.

My Favorite Wedding – Review

My Favorite Wedding – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

My Favorite Wedding

Tess Harper is reliable for everyone in her life including her best friend Amber, her boyfriend Dex, and her job at a hospital. She wanted to have a ring before spring but Dex hasn’t proposed.  Tess hopes that while they are at Amber’s wedding, he would be inspired and pop the question.  Until he is asked to work over the weekend.  Tess tries to keep a brave face but she is disappointed.  Begrudgingly she goes to the wedding alone.  At the airport, she is picked up a guy whom she believes in a chauffeur, however, Michael is the best man.  Michale notices that Tess is wound too tight and Tess notices that Michael hates weddings.  Although Tess hopes this will be a nice break, soon the bride needs help.  So, Tess to the rescue, but not without Michael first.    As time goes on and Dex comes back, big changes will be made to make this their favorite wedding.

This is an easy going film with characters we know (stressed woman, loose man) and a story of which we have become familiar.  The jokes are just ok and the story lines aren’t the most original, even for Hallmark.    You know what is going to happen and whom it will happen but not why it’s happening in the first place.  As Tess, puts her family, friends, and job above herself, she learns a hard lesson.  You must take care of yourself before you can take care of anyone else.  It’s the last 5 minutes, that make this movie.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

You, relaxing. What does that look like? – Maddy

Please go. I don’t want to get between you and a fish – Tess

My Christmas Love – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

My Christmas Love

Cynthia is headed to her sister’s, Janet, Christmas wedding without her scheduled plus one. Jason decided not to go because meeting her family during a wedding at Christmas was too much pressure. Cynthia leaves the relationship … but not the cupcakes or her gift.  Cynthia decides to ask her best friend and illustrator Liam to be her plus one. Luckily, he doesn’t have plans and decides to go. While in town she meets 2 old boyfriends, Scott and Grant. Then, she starts getting gifts that are inline with the 12 days of Christmas song. And the sender is a mystery. She is determined to figure out who is her mystery Christmas Love.

  1. Jason – most recent her ex
  2. Liam – her friend and business partner
  3. Scott – her first boyfriend
  4. Grant – her senior year boyfriend

With so many possibilities around her, it is hard for Cynthia to see what is in front of her.

The best Hallmark holiday movie by far. When Cynthia leaves a room angry, hold on to your stuff. This movie will make you laugh out loud. Liam and Tom (Cynthia’s father) have the best one-liners. It is an absolute joy to watch. You need to watch this mystery twice to see what you missed. This movie proves that funny and quirky is better than sappy. This is how a holiday movie should be done. It is obvious, Hallmark left the best for … close to last. And be prepared to cry when “The Christmas Love” is revealed.

Calvin Joyner, a happily married accountant, is have an average day at work when he gets a Facebook friend request from Bob Stone. Even though he has no idea who this person is, he accepts the request. Soon, Bob sends him an IM to meet and Calvin agrees. When they meet, Calvin learns that Bob is Robbie Weirdicht. Robbie was bullied so badly that he stopped attending school, but he remembers that Calvin was the only person in school that was nice to him. Robbie asks Calvin to use his accounting skills to look at some files. As Calvin is looking at the files, his computer goes haywire. The next day, Calvin is approached by Agent Harris. Harris informs Calvin that Robbie is a CIA agent, an enemy of the government, and killed his partner. Calvin doesn’t know who to trust and who is the enemy. Its going to take a little Hart and a big Johnson to find the answers.

It movie is fun to watch with unique action sequences. Dwayne Johnson is often funnier than Kevin Hart. Kevin plays the uptight, button up guy while Dwayne plays the comic relief. Even with the anti-bulling message, this movie does not take itself seriously. Although you will see the long terms affect of bullying, you will see Hart’s character go through changes because he is no longer the big man on campus. Now you may be able to guess what is going on before the end, but the comedy and CGI makes for the predictable plot. Be prepared for some jaw dropping cameo appearances. See the movie before someone ruins it for you.

I give this 4 out of 5 stars

What the hell did I get myself into – Calvin
