Killer Ending

Agatha has survived an abusive husband to become a semi-famous mystery writer.  As she writes her latest novel, she drops her daughter off at college, gets an assistant, and threatens her manager.  When Agatha can’t get in touch with her daughter Sarah for a few days, her assistant Caroline takes matters into her own hands.  Caroline goes to Sarah’s dorm room to find broken glass, an upside down heart on the wall, and Sarah’s ex Jack strung up.  She calls Agatha to report her findings and Agatha is floored.  The crime scene is just like the one in her manuscript, her unpublished manuscript.  She realizes someone has hacked into her computer and following her unpublished book in real time with her daughter as the victim.  Agatha tries to use this knowledge to ensure her daughter safety by typing in lines about feeding the victim.  But when someone else starts typing, Agatha and possibly Sarah are lost.

“Just call the cops” is a phrase you will be screaming from the beginning.  Or “write he will return you daughter home alive” is something else you may say.  But give this movie a chance.  It has a lot of Red Herring and not-so-dumb cops.  However, as the mystery of her daughter starts up, the mystery of her husband death starts to turn its ugly head.  This will leave you truly questioning everything going on in the movie.  That is the true mystery.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

Deadly Matrimony – Review

Deadly Matrimony – Lifetime – 2 hours and 2 minutes

Deadly Matrimony

Sara is a smart, funny lawyer who is doing something that makes everyone who knows her uncomfortable.  She is marrying Leo.  While he is very charming, Sara’s loved ones can’t get past the fact she has only known him for three months.  But she is happy, so they keep their peace.  After getting married, she hears a woman crying in the bathroom during the reception.  She thinks is strange but brushes it off.  A few days later, she checks her bank account and discovers all her money is gone and Leo has bought a plane ticket.  She believes she has been hacked but some believe Leo did it.  While she dreams of Leo’s dangerous side, she tries to keep her faith in her marriage.  That is until Melinda comes knocking at her door. Melinda knows Leo as Sam: her husband.  The man that took all her money and left her with nothing.  Melinda wants Sara to join forces with her and take Leo/Sam down.  But will Sara believe her?

Be prepared to yell at the TV.  While watching the story unravel, don’t get furious with the lead character.  She is just stuck in love.  Even with every sign pointing to Leo being a crook, she keeps hoping there’s an explanation.  Sara makes all the typical Lifetime mistakes when getting married (short engagement, ignoring friends warnings, ignoring spouse’s flaws).  But she will become stronger and see Leo for who he truly is.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

Royally Ever After – Review

Royally Ever After – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Daniel is ready to ask Sara to be his wife.  He knows he truly loves her and she him.  But there is one thing he didn’t tell her.  He is the crowned Prince of St. Ives, next in line for the throne.  Even though he got Burt and Marie’s, Sara’s parents, permission, he still needs to get the Queen and King to accept her and his engagement.  Once Sara learns Daniel’s true identity, her laughter leads to shock and awe.  The moment Sara lands in St. Ives, she makes a string of faux pas.  Sara believes that manners are keeping her from the Queen’s acceptance.  But when she learns how much Daniel will give up for marrying a commoner, can she go through with the wedding?

This is one of those most unintentionally funny film Hallmark has to offer.  It is funny without making fun of Sara and her family’s commoner ways.  They are just being nice and welcoming in a frosty situation.  It’s so easy to believe this is a true love story.  The lead couple is amazingly connected and feed off of each other.  This is one to watch.  So get your tea warm, your DVR ready, and 2 hours of quiet to yourself.  Enjoy.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars

Manny Dearest – Review

Manny Dearest – Lifetime – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Manny Dearest

Even though she feels guilty, Karen decides to hire a manny to help with her two sons, Max and Rex. She interviews several candidates but with no real prospects. Soon as she gives up, Alex is on her doorstep. She takes a quick glance at his resume, but when he handles the kids like a pro on the spot, she hires him. Alex is a dream come true with cooking, cleaning, and child care. But as Karen and her boyfriend, Greg, get closer, Alex’s snaps. He uses fire alarms, medications, and a drone to drive Greg off. But when Alex believes he has succeeded, Greg starts to look into his history. It’s not long before he sees the darkness behind him. With Greg out of the house, Alex attempts to be the dad, but Karen puts an end to that immediately. Now Greg must warn Karen in time before she becomes Alex’s next victim.

Always check references!!!! This movie will have you shocked as Alex defends and turns on the family. While it only gives a brief glimpse into what causes Alex’s issues, it’s enough for a Lifetime movie. While the body count is low, it starts quickly. Within the first 4 minutes, someone dies. The acting is perfect. It’s funny to watch Alex feign shock at Greg’s misdeeds. Faking acting while acting is proof you can act. You will be in fear for the children’s life as well as the dog’s life. Now one kill maybe a little satisfying for some, but Alex is the bad guy. But Remember: Alex is hot, so he is crazy. Lifetime rule #1: Hot = Crazy.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

Sometimes the Good Kill – Review

Sometimes the Good Kill – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Sometimes the Good Kill

Talia and Faith are going through a normal day when they hear a scream. The run outside to find Mother Superior dead with a head wound. Since the convent is going through a financial crisis, they decided to take the body to the infirmary and call the police later. Until then, they will hold a vote to select another mother superior. After a close race, Sister Joy is chosen. When Joy asks Talia to come to her office, Talia is pleased to get recognition from the new Mother Superior. Joy explains the issues of the church and the closeness of the race. Once Joy is assured they are alone, Joy shows Talia another dead body. It is the body of Sister Mary in a bathtub. Sister Joy knows that the Cardinal is looking for any reason to let her go and another murder would give him the reason. So, Sister Joy asks Talia to user her past training to find the killer before anyone was so late. Talia is concerned that reverting back will jeopardize her oath to God to end her violent past.

If you are going to watch this movie, give it your full attention. You may even need to watch it twice to see what you missed. While the story is good, the scenery is absolutely amazing. With the rolling hills and immaculate grounds, it’s hard to imagine something so awful could happen here. The movie offers plenty of suspects and several motives … enough to make your heads spin. And just when you think you have everything figured out, you are thrown curve ball. While the ending calls for a sequel, it’s not needed. Watch this movie when you have a full 2 hours to give it your full attention.

I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars

New York Prison Break: The Seduction of Joyce Mitchell – Review

New York Prison Break: The Seduction of Joyce Mitchell – Lifetime – 2 hours and 0 minutes

New York Prison Break: The Seduction of Joyce Mitchell

Richard Matt a.k.a Hacksaw is serving 25 years to life for killing a man and cutting up his body. Dave Sweat a.k.a Rebel is serving life for killing a sheriff’s deputy. Joyce Mitchell aka Tillie is a twice married mother of three. Joyce and her husband Lyle both work at the prison where Hacksaw and Rebel are serving their sentence. Joyce is a seamstress and, under her instructions, Hacksaw and Rebel sew uniforms for various companies. Hacksaw has a skill for painting and paints pictures for the guards in return for favors. Rebel can cook and cooks for the guards for more favors. Rebel and Hacksaw come up with a plan to seduce Joyce to bring in contraband needed to aid their escape. At first, they wonder if she would be willing to do it; but when she tells Rebel she cheated on her first husband for Lyle, they know she is ready. She slowly sneaks in items as Rebel digs under the prison. Hacksaw creates a plan to go to Mexico, he has friends that will help and can speak the language. Everything seems to go well until word gets out about how much time Rebel and Joyce are spending together. So Rebel sends love letters to Joyce but to ensure his stronghold on her, he allows Hacksaw to sleep with her. Now with the tunnel almost complete, they have one more test for Joyce: kill Lyle. And then she will pick them up for an escape to Mexico.

Wow. Remember when watching this movie that the seduction/prison break took over a year to plan and complete. It’s amazing to watch these two killers seduce everyone who knows them. They are given access to hotplates, knives, and hacksaws all from the guards. But it was Joyce who took it a step farther. Was Joyce a willing participant or a patsy? In her final moments, was she overcome with guilt or chicken out? It’s up to the viewer to interpret. However, with these questions, there is only one real victim. Lyle. He is loyal to a fault. He continues to support Joyce and blames Hacksaw and Rebel for her decisions. There is no honor among thieves. DVR and watch when the kids are asleep.

The Perfect Catch – Review

The Perfect Catch – Hallmark – 2 hours and 0 minutes

The Perfect Catch

Chase shot big and shot himself in the foot. He lost his team’s chance at the World’s Series with one bad pitch. And with tryouts about to start, Chase still doesn’t have a team. While waiting for that career renewing phone call, Chase decided to go to his hometown of Parker Falls and clear his mind. His first day back, he runs into his old friend Jessica. During their conversation, he learns that Jessica is running the family restaurant, divorced, a single mother, and dating. Also, Chase is dating a supermodel who is vacationing in France. As they go down memory lane, they think about when both were crowned King and Queen of the Spring Fling. But this passing conversation is extended the next day when Wesley asks Chase to help him become a better baseball player. With more time together the sparks fly but how will it effect the other aspects of their lives. And with one phone call, Chase is left with a heartbreaking decision.

Hallmark doing what they do best. People with a history that annoy each other, forced to work together, realize they are in love after all. They even throw in a Spring Fling festival. But what makes this story unique is the connection between Wesley and Chase. Seeing their bond form naturally is the saving grace of this movie. Also, unlike most Hallmark movies, it’s Chase who has to make the life-altering decision. Not Jessica. So come for a love story, stay for a Father/Son bonding.

I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars

My arm is fine. It’s my ego that’s taking a bruising – Chase

He still looks great – Nina

Was it something I said – brett
