Patsy and Loretta – Review

Patsy and Loretta – Lifetime – 2 hours and 3 minutes

patsy-and-loretta-3-1-1570656904

In 1957, Patsy Cline is a famous singer who wanted 3 things to prove she was Big Time: a dream house, a silver Cadillac, and a fox fur coat (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  She met Charlie’s after a gig and explained she wanted babies and hit records.  If he had a problem with either, he would need to leave.  Patsy divorced her husband and married Charles.  During a big rainstorm, Patsy’s mother wanted to get some more material for Patsy’s costume.    Patsy offers to go to keep her mother safe.  Patsy’s car is struck and she wakes up in the hospital.  Patsy turns on the radio to hear Loretta Lynn singing her song, I Fall to Pieces, and wishing her a speedy recovery (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer).  Patsy asks Charlie to bring Loretta to her.  Loretta enters Patsy’s hospital room full of apologies.  She is worried Patsy will take the dedication the wrong way.  Nevertheless, Patsy thinks Loretta’s gesture was sweet and she wants to hear more about her.  Loretta is a mother of 4 children whose husband, Do, talked her into singing.  She always wanted to connect to people but didn’t know-how.  Her husband ‘Do’ believes in her singing abilities but he doesn’t like the glitz and glamour of the industry. He won’t let Loretta wear makeup or read her contracts.  The two women continue talking about their husbands, babies, and careers.  This friendship helps Patsy and Loretta become better singers, mothers, and wives.  Their bond transcends death.

This movie is for anyone over the age of 14 (it contains some sexual content).  Even if you don’t know who Patsy and Loretta are, rest assured, you know one of their songs.  Their songs are timeless classics.  In today’s society, it’s easy to see how Loretta would have been suspicious of Patsy’s kind nature.  Loretta’s ability to trust is unbelievable.  On that note, it’s hard to imagine today’s artist taking someone under their tutelage like Patsy did.  You would suspect it was a setup, a cheap Hollywood stunt, or Patsy had an ulterior motive.  Patsy was strong and opinionated.  This was groundbreaking in the 50s and 60s.  Loretta is a shy teen bride but she gains strength by studying Patsy’s playbook and giving it her own twist.  Her loving and caring nature gives her the ability to receive help from others.  Patsy and Loretta are not today’s girl power.  They are the embodiment of women’s empowerment.  In honor of Patsy and their friendship, you should help guide someone’s next stop in life.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars

Go away – Charlie

People like you because you seem like everyone else – Do

Well, who the hell is that – Patsy

It don’t make no sense people want to see me. I ain’t nothing special – Loretta

Sleeping with My Student – Review

Sleeping with My Student – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

sleeping-with-my-student-desktop

On a Girls Trip to Miami, Kathy, Stacy, and Megan have their AC fixed by a handsome, young maintenance worker, Ian.  They all shamelessly flirt with him.  Later, Kathy relaxes at the pool when Ian walks up to the pool’s edge.  He gets in the pool but stays underwater for a while.  Kathy starts to worry and jumps in to help.  Ian tells her he was just floating but thinks her attempt to save him was sexy.  He offers to buy her a drink, which leads to the bedroom.  As she is undressing, he sets up his phone to record.  Putting the tryst behind her, Kathy heads home to her daughter Bree and her new job as Principal.  She stands in front of the school, ready to take a bold new step into her new job, and she sees Ian walking into the building.  She is stunned.  Ian is a student at her school.  She tries to forget about it until Ian starts spending more time with Bree.  She warns Bree to stay away but Ian shuts down bullies for her.  Whenever anyone makes her feel bad, Ian is there to protect her.  And Ian won’t let Kathy off easy.  He wants to make her pay.  He sends a clip of their night together to her phone.  If she doesn’t pay up, he will expose her.  She says no until her daughter’s life is at stake.  Everything changes.  She must do anything save Bree.

This is a movie you have to watch from the beginning to understand how it all ties together.  Ian is not after her for her money or her body.  He is after her for justice.  One aspect that was missing is Ian learning the truth from his mother about the night of the accident.  He had a warped view of the events.  He needed to hear it from his mother.  This movie tries to add a twist but its not a new concept for Lifetime.  It’s better to watch this movie while you tweet.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars

Psycho BFF – Review

Psycho BFF – LMN – 2 hours and 0 minutes

Deandra hates her new town and school.  She wishes she could live in New York with her dad.  Her mother, Renee, tries to open Deandra’s eyes to the beauty around her but she won’t budge.  On Deandra’s first day of school, she is targeted by Adele for her clothes and old cell phone.  In poetry class, Deandra meets Olivia.  Deandra is moved by Olivia’s poem about a girl named Liberty.   Liberty was Olivia’s best friend until Liberty died.  Olivia takes notice of Deandra’s writing skills and tells Deandra to write for the school newspaper.  Deandra doesn’t tell Olivia that she was expelled from her last school because she wrote about a 3-way between the principal and 2 English teachers.  Her pièce de résistance: she posted the article on social media. Deandre is hesitant about joining.  After Olivia stands up to Adele for her, Deandra finds the strength to sign up for the newspaper.  Of course, her first article is with Adele.  Adele wants Deandra to write it and she will punch it up.  In addition, Adele wants to be first in the byline.  Deandra turns and walks away.   This turnabout infuriates Adele.  She starts picking on Deandra again.  Olivia starts making fun of Adele and scares her away with shame.  Olivia admits that she and Adele were friends but had a falling out sans explanation.  Olivia and Deandra start getting closer and Renee starts to worry.  She believes Olivia is a bad influence and focuses too much on Deandra.  Renee tries to warn Deandra but she won’t listen.  A gun will fix her hearing problem.

This is the normal story of the new girl making friends with a crazy girl.  To complete the Lifetime trifecta, the police ignore the problem and leave it up to Renee to find her daughter.  In the first 5 minutes, the audience knows Olivia is 100% crazy.  The ‘why’ isn’t explained until the last 30 minutes.  Your bonus: A crazy girl ending.  This movie just doesn’t stand out.  It’s a filler movie for the ‘Psycho’ line up.

I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars

You’re just too much – Liberty

You’re not my friend. You’re no one’s friend – Olivia

I’m so glad you understand – Adele

Oh my god, what did you give him – Deandra
